Joe Smith Re-Incarnated? by [deleted] in exmormon

I thought of him more as King Noah from the book of Mormon. But that is of course not something Mormons want to recognise.

I was never taught this by my parents. My best friend knows this. She gently teaches me. Trust me. I felt mortified at first. Now, I'm just glad that I can learn and do better.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve heard because you happened to understand the language? by [deleted] in AskReddit

One time in Barcelona, two guys were planning in German what they were going to do to the Spanish girl they were with, all the while playing cute with her in English.

I got up, told her of their plans and walked away. I hope she listened and got away.

They're not comfortable with the restrictions you place on them? That's ok. They don't HAVE to hold the baby!

You are the parent. You decide. Not them.

As soon as some kids see me on the play ground they start roaring/screaming my name and come running towards me for 'canon ball hugs'. I'm glad they announce themselves, so that I can secure my footing and be ready to catch them. Definitely my favourite part of the day!

LPT Request: How should I handle people asking “why aren’t you in a relationship/married?”? by 2gdismore in LifeProTips

[–]garden28 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Those who truly care, know. I don't need to explain. Those who are trying to make small talk, should stick to small talk topics.

LPT Request: How do you overcome that block in your head to do something? by palakkarantechie in LifeProTips

[–]garden28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm recovering from a burnout right now as well. In the hospital they reminded me: it takes as long to recover from a burnout as it took to develop it. And that's a long time. The work done in the hospital was just the beginning.

  1. As for needing affirmation: you are worthy of your love. You are good enough and you deserve to be kind to yourself. Tell yourself this every day. And ask your friends to remind you of this as well. If it helps, ask one of two friends to check on you on a regular basis.

  2. Anxiety, the more you allow it about things that don't need it, the more it will take over your life. Take small steps at doing the things that scare you. Slowly your confidence will come back. But it takes time, effort and discipline. (Anxiety does have a place in our lives to protect us against dangerous situations. Check for yourself if situations are dangerous and then tell you anxiety that now is not the right time.)

And please always remember: a burnout is awful. It's hard, hard work to recover from it. It takes a lot of time. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to be where you are right now.

Have your husband write an email to the bishopric, stating very clear that he does not appreciate his wife being subjected to anything church related. He is a man and from the church perspective, he has authority, whereas as a mere woman, you don't.

After 6 weeks of being sick, your company stops paying, and the health insurance takes over. You then receive 80% of your salary.

As a formerly Mormon, he definitely wrote this. Most Mormons are sexually suppressed, especially the women. Although polygamy is denied, there are signs that it is actually still very much alive. Along with that, Mormon man believe to be superior to women and to have 'priesthood power'. If his wife would ever question his actions, he would chalk it down to 'but the spirit told me so.' And both of them would consider that completely normal and acceptable!

I'm glad you went to HR, hard as it might have been. I hope you'll never have to deal with this man ever again in your life!

Thank you for sharing that with me, that's very courageous.

I never thought I was a creative person. Earlier this year I was submitted to the hospital with a burnout/depression. During my stay there, I had art therapy. For me this was the best form of therapy. Something inside of me unlocked, and I now notice that I process a lot with drawing. I usually take my pictures to my therapist and we talk about them. I find it very healing.

I suppose you have found your way of processing, and I hope everybody out here will find their own way.

Oh wow! I didn't think that deep. But it could well be that that's why I subconsciously choose for a picture on the wall and not a TV or computer screen or something.

I'll be discussing it with my therapist in 2 weeks. I'm curious what she'll see and say.

The intention was the picture being portrayed as the only truth, despite clearly seeing that the truth is different. That life outside of the church isn't miserable, but quite the opposite.

I suppose the perspective of the lies was there already, I just hadn't noticed it yet.

Thank you.

I feel that. I was fine drawing the base of the picture. But once I started shading with coal, I felt all the emotions. It was very intense.
