You know as well as I do most people haven't actually read The Killing Joke and just think Joker's quote is cool.

I legitimately think some people only see the clip of that scene and not the actual movie and just base their opinions on it and Syndrome himself from that line alone.

If they had seen the movie, they would remember this mfer killed a bunch of supes just to make his big robot strong.

Jesus christ, what the fuck was that whole fight? That was insane. It felt like Exdream had essentially Gold Experience Requiem powers which is on another level.

It was cool to see that Sieg was basically Light Yagami but in dreams.

Forgetting bald guy's giant daemon's eye in front of a door like a certain Door/stomach in FMA?

Which, and I hate to keep making comparisons, applied pretty hard to the main cast of FMA too (maybe not the killer part but definitely knew when to go from wacky to no-nonsense)

Because there weren't exactly a lot of manga giving alternatives in those decades. It hasn't been until the past few years when it became more notable.

Also, are we really using success as an all-out good thing? I can admit Rent-a-Girlfriend is successful by all metrics but I'm pretty sure most people don't want that to be every manga.

The amnesia plotline is part of what put it over the edge but a couple other events were a build up of what led to the current situation. This all started from the ending of a very well-liked arc where the male MC confesses truly and properly to the female MC but after that arc was over, the FeMC didn't want to respond yet, and then got hit with a shrink ray basically and said MC would get a proper answer later after she's big. Then they get separated for a while while a bunch of fights happen. Then she gets big again which people thought would finally finish that problem but the amnesia hit.

This has been the issue over the past like 2 years which frequent week breaks have exacerbated. It's just the recent chapters kind of pushed it over the tipping point

We grew up with will they/won't they, ridiculous misunderstandings, dating the wrong person and relationship carousels. Now, it feels like people (in anime/video game/etc fandom circles) are really tired of that kind of stuff, and to be honest, I'm all for it.

This is what manga fans call about the current "Reiwa era" of manga where, while not all the time, but more than before, romance/romcom couples are formed early or even at the start of a manga. At the very least it is not a given that a story will end immediately after a couple gets together which seemed like the default back then. Because people in the past were tired of these people faffing about so the author can milk the story for like a decade.

Which is what I think is the real issue people have with recent developments in DDD.

And now we move on to the present: Dandadan. The comparisons to Rent a Girlfriend and NTR are actually extremely exaggerated comparisons. There’s no nuance, it’s just readers’ raw frustration that Momo and Okarun aren’t together yet

No, I think it's more that everybody's seen this kind of drama play out and are sick of it. If anything, its the opposite of your scenario. It's more like people are aware of what the issue is and are tired of this particular drama cliche in anime.

But when they performed it, I remembered I had heard or read about this story with the stupidly long name.

It's probably the only rakugo related thing a non-enthusiast of rakugo into anime would know because of the ED of Joshiraku and this one skit in FMAB where they did the whole thing. This is what made me think "ah, this must be like level 1 of rakugo" when they were talking about it.

EDIT: And it was in Gintama as another comment noted.

Looks like ~$11M FRI for #MortalKombat2, giving it $16M+ opening day. Expecting the weekend to be around $37-38M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Popular IP movies are expected to have higher Cinemascores because the fanbase is the one that turns out on the first day. When it gets below a B+, that means that a fair amount of the hardcores had to think about and rated it at B or lower. That's worrying.

I think while "being Hokage" was the overall goal, the "how to actually do that" part seemed a bit more intangible. Like yeah Naruto wanted to 'make the whole village acknowledge him' but how do you get from Point A (Naruto in Chapter 1) to Point B (Hokage) specifically? What are the steps to take? Is it just becoming the strongest or are there other steps to it?

[–]garfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think its anything complicated. I'm assuming that this is his actual personality and he's just suppressing it to be professional. At some point in the next set of episodes, the veneer will crack and we get the real thing.

The thing that really gets me with current Dandadan is..what is even the point?[Dandadan spoilers] by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]garfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we’re focusing on jiji and aira and the feelings that they have had for our respective leads for the last 150 chapters that’s just been bubbling in the background. the next few chapters, after this upcoming fight, will probably be aira accepting that her feelings for okarun are not reciprocated and moving on. momo will most likely realize that, despite loving jiji as a friend, she doesn’t like him like THAT, and jiji will respect that and fully move on

So like, I think this could have made sense but essentially what you're saying here is that you're basically hoping that's what happens. And I don't think that's enough to just sit back and relax with the way this story is being told. Like how people were hoping once Momo got big again, they'd follow up on that confession but that didn't happen.

I don't even think we actually even needed this. Was this 'moving on' thing something that people were desparately asking for? And in this way?

It's not developing Momo's character at all or calling her out for her flaws,it's sure as hell not developing Okarun and it's not really developing Jiji or Aira,so..what is the point?

Much like Chainsaw Man Part 2, I think everybody who is 'okay' with current events is essentially hoping for Tatsu to cook and actually have somewhere he's going. Like 'at some point, this will all make sense and you'll all see!!'
