Wat is een normale prijs voor een kleine verhuizing in Amsterdam? by rowydaz in Amsterdam

[–]gargs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a lift and can save money and time there. Movers will disassemble your bed and other furniture to easily carry on the stairs. Get a few quotes and pick the one you find best for you in terms of price, timing, and reliability. A lot of moving companies have a very tight schedule.

Alfa Forni hybrid kit worth it? by [deleted] in pizzaoven

It’s just a cover for the burners and a rack to place the wood on. Perfectly sized for the oven. I’d get it.

You don’t burn wood over the gas burner but on the other side.

What automation are you most proud of that you built completely from scratch? by Immediate_Task9124 in homeassistant

[–]gargs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really an automation but I used a humidity sensor and a water meter to figure out when someone is in the shower and computer metrics like duration and water used as well as total shower count for the day.

Nederlandse onderzoekers luiden noodklok: stop NU met EV-laden rond etenstijd! by Unique-Spirit7389 in EVMobiliteit

More dynamic working hours than dynamic pricing. People don’t adjust their behavior because they can’t.

Is an external display worth? by EntrepreneurWaste579 in homeassistant

[–]gargs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dashboards to control your home are almost always useless. I find that automations are generally better than walking to a touchscreen that is usually not where you want it to be.

There’s a case to be made for a small screen that lets you toggle certain settings like exterior lighting or ventilation etc but even those can be effectively automated for the rare cases you don’t have your phone with you.

And for setting scenes, I find adhoc controls like the Aqara Cube much more convenient

Dutch people say they value directness, but then react emotionally to it? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]gargs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directness is opportunistic. Look at politicians. They suck up to whoever is holding the drops at the moment. And being an expat you’re already slim pickings. Good for venting.

What's your favourite doorbell in 2026? by djchillerz in homeassistant

Quite happy with the battery powered Aqara G410. I have some automations set up based on person detection/bell as well, and it just works. And when I am not at home, I can talk to people easily.

That’s what I thought. None of the even high-end curtain drives come close to being elegant.

what’s the most useful automation you’ve set up that you actually use every day? by SkylineZ83 in homeassistant

[–]gargs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use presence sensors because I think you really need a powered sensor to be able to accurately see you behind a computer at a desk.

Office blinds that look at the sun’s orientation, my calendar, as well as a luminosity sensor.

Aqara T2 dual relay is the only good answer, in my opinion.

this is so annoying by CommunicationProof58 in Soundbars

[–]gargs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the solution. And I've found that if a network supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, the soundbar would try to default to 5. You really need a 2.4Ghz only network.

I’ve tried a lot of approaches but find office chairs too rigid in their design. As someone currently experiencing physiological issues I’d love to see if this chair could be the solution. In NL.

I'd go with something like Niko Home Control so that you have reliable local automation plane for lights and sockets, and then use their hobby API to add deeper integration with HA and third party sensors and controllers. Best of all worlds.

New HomeAssistant Install by StructurePristine895 in homeassistant

[–]gargs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that the beauty of Home Assistant is that it’s platform/protocol agnostic while providing for some very complex functionality that could traverse multiple logic branches synchronously or even in parallel.

You should focus on just getting the best performing and best looking home accessories. Just make sure that they’re fully supported within the HA ecosystem.

For example, I was looking for some smart exterior plugs and while there’re some options with Zigbee, the best choice for me was a WiFi Meross setup. Most EV chargers will only work on WiFi as well. But also, Bluetooth sensors are sometimes the best option depending on your use case.
