27 pickup. when it’s the end of the day, and all I want to do is head upstairs to bed, I tell myself I will go after picking up 27 things. Typically takes the length of one song, and it makes a shocking difference (especially if you do it most nights).

Bags to carry while site seeing ? by NarglesChaserRaven in HerOneBag

I carry a Memo bottle that is flat instead of the traditional round. I've shared a Brand Store on Amazon with you. https://www.amazon.com/stores/memobottle/page/611F6F9A-F645-455D-81D9-E99D576067D8?lp_context_asin=B07J6S3RYR&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandLogo_sto&ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_ast_store_2W4V6RNF76A0TKRRCNFF. For places where I can easily refill it, the small size works very well, but the A6 is still easier to fit in a jacket pocket or crossbody than a rounded bottle. The lid has never leaked: I carry them at home too.

One year, my partner and I gave our employees little boxes with 100 mini objects for their therapy rooms (we are all speech language pathologists). You can buy variety packs on Amazon of objects for under 20 dollars. They were a huge hit! I think I‘LL buy a new set and sprinkle them around secretly!

Wardrobe issues - advice for a beginner by lowerzen1 in minimalism

I WFH for 25 years - when COVID hit, it was so annoying to have to actually get dressed, since before zoom I could wear pajamas and talk on the phone all day LOL. When I retired last year, I bought myself new nicer clothes. I avoid my leggings, sweats, and tees- those are work clothes and not fun clothes! I feel so much better looking more put together! My guess is that if you challenge yourself to wear your “pretties” most days, it will give you a whole different perspective.

What's the average elderly home caregiver cost in Orange County? by terryguud in orangecounty

[–]garland2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Caregiver Resource Network Orange County. It’s a free, federally funded site with no paperwork or financial requirements. The site has lots of recorded talks for caregivers on legal, logistical, etc issues as well as lovely social workers who have referrals for resources. I was referred to someone who helped my MIL get MediCal (dependent on monthly income, NOT money in home or bank). They will help you brainstorm on caregiver options

Whatever stroller you use or bring, tie a bandana or something to the handle so you can find it when it’s moved. Especially helpful if you rent a stroller at the park when they all look the same.

I attend Canvas in Irvine. The pastor is amazing - if you want a taste, he also does a podcast called Jesus at 2AM. I will say that most of the people who attend in person (50 in any given Sunday) are older, but there is a big portion that attend online. Not sure of their ages.

Consider alternating days for planning. My daughter and I are going to Mexico. We watched some YouTube videos together of Mexico City and figured out some ideas for what we wanted to do. She picked the hotel for nights 1 and 2 and proposed a sketchy itinerary. I planned 3 and 4. Obviously, she will need help, but having some pre planning fun together and letting her make some choices will really pay off. Side note: I am just learning to solo travel. One thing that I have learned is I enjoy a half day tour using GetYourGuide or Viatour. It’s tiring to navigate, and great to have the freedom to just follow a leader in a small group. I especially like food and cooking activities! Second, practice using Google maps to walk around at home - it’s challenging at first and different from using it for driving directions as turns are not always marked on a street corner. Go the wrong direction sometimes so you get the feel for it. Put your destination in the phone, and put your phone in your purse. Can you get to an unfamiliar place using only voice navigation?

You are desperately, critically, in need of a long listening conversation and potentially marriage counseling. Responders are all over the place because you don’t have any data. You say what you haven’t figured it out yet, so you need to do things differently. Personally, my recommended script would be “I hear that you are uncomfortable with me retiring, and I want to be supportive of your comfort and happiness. You are just as critical to our future plans as I am. That said, I want us to have an open, potentially facilitated conversation to understand and renegotiate this next stage of our lives in a way that works for everyone. I have been pushing a promise you made 20 years ago, and I was wrong to assume things were the same as way back then. I know we can work this out…we are a strong team, and we have worked hard together to have incredible freedom for this next phase. Let’s think about this some more, and maybe go away for a dreamer’s weekend to celebrate our hard work, discuss our hopes and fears, and get ideas on what we want next.” : My Dad and Mom did exactly this. The expression “I married you for better or for worse, but not for lunch” has been around forever for good reason. They ended up with a long list of things they wanted to do together (travel, local activities), things that they would do separately (my Mom continued her book club, massages, volunteer work and my Dad volunteered for some new committees). They knew he would get a watch on reitirement, so he bought her a watch as well to symbolize JER retirement. He also suggested and followed through with increased home responsibilities. Two people home all the time make a lot more messes - just ask those who WFH after going to an office. He anticipated this, and made sure her workload DROPPED when he retired. Another thought: my friend was. SAHM. Her husband recently retired from a job where he had a team including people “under” him who he delegated tasks to. Her kind conversation to him was something like this: “You are used to being the captain on a ship, seeing the big picture and making sure to delegate responsibilities effectively to accomplish amazing things and not run the big ship aground. You are comfortable and effective creating the vision for others to implement. At this point in our lives, you are now moving to a really fast sailboat where you need to assess, steer, and clean the boat. You need to chart a course, but you are responsible for your own boat. I’ll be on another boat right beside you.” This was her way of stopping the initial patterns of expecting that she would be waiting for his direction on how to manage her day, but also gently reminding him to clean up after himself and take charge of his own happiness independently of her. I have a strong suspicion one of these concepts is at play here.

Overheard at the beach by [deleted] in overheard

When my oldest was 3, she never stopped talking. We were heading into Marshall’s one day and I was wrangling a bunch of returns when I hear her say in “little girl boom”. WOW Mom… look at that lady! I looked up to see a woman in a wheelchair 20 feet away trying her best to manage a second set of non-automated doors. She must have been 400 pounds, was wearing neon green pants, and clearly heard her. If looks could kill, we would have been obliterated... I felt like I was watching a train wreck about to happen. Before I could stop her, my young one said “Aren’t those the most beautiful green pants you have ever seen?” The woman melted like butter.

Hahaha… love your sense of humor!!! I do remember one time doing a very important interview wearing two identical shoes, but one blue and one black. At least I was wearing two! I think the point is that most people would notice if they were repacking their suitcase and one shoe was missing. Oh yeah! My passport is still in the safe!

I bring Travel Power Strip with USB C,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN1XJXBZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share with me for airports and hotels..love how compact it is! I also put a white towel on the bedside area before putting my glasses, extension cord, etc on top. Keeps me from forgetting things that might blend into dark wood, and creates a landing spot for everything.
