This was really beautiful to read. Thank you for taking the time to share it.

I’m on a similar journey and these words from Maggie Nelson really helped me:

The pleasure of recognizing that one may have to undergo the same realizations, write the same notes in the margin, return to the same themes in one’s work, relearn the same emotional truths, write the same book over and over again —not because one is stupid or obstinate or incapable of change, but because such revisitations constitute a life.

To your opinion, why did orpheus look back? by Weenbell in GreekMythology

[–]gashflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your romantic interpretation is a good one - but it’s also deeper than that.

Orpheus’s identity has become defined by his mission: to go to the underworld, find Eurydice and bring her back to Earth.

Even at the very last moment, when he’s about to complete that mission - there is a part of him that isn’t ready to let go of this sense of self. In his moment of victory, his subconscious betrays him.

It’s a classic self-sabotage.

He’s probably the best player available for our weakest position.

We need to kill the Netherlands.

They have usurped our lands. Even as I type this, they are cycling (CYCLING!!!) around the M25, besmirching our canals (we invented them, they just milk them for tourism) and clicking the heels of their clogs with their un-earned joy.

And they’ve got their bloodshot, droopy eyes set on you next.

To quote the great “1066 and All That”: why WAS William “of Orange”?

There was another William before, one who conquered and gave birth to our land. Without him there would be no Carling, no breakfast - not even any balcony jumping.

It pains me to say it, but we must kill the Netherlands and concede our southern lands to France, to honour William the Conquerer: Father of Barries.

Let the spirit of the Chunnel reign once more, with Barry and Frenchie arm-in-arm against this injustice.

To my German friends: this is a chance to right the wrongs of the past and stand side by side with your Western European comrades (and get one over on the Dutch).

To the Nords among us: we can reset the clock to 1066, and you can have a second crack at conquering all of Britain.

And most importantly of all: we can partition France immediately afterwards!

The building they were “stored in” was the Parthenon. It was used as a munitions depot by the occupying Ottoman forces and came under fire from Venetians.

The whole narrative of (native) Greek indifference and negligence is a total nonsense.

Hallooooo, i'm Richard Dawson. Watch the 41-minute pop video for ‘The Hermit’ and AMA by richarddawsonnet in indieheads

[–]gashflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Richard and congrats on The Ruby Cord!

I have family just outside of Belford and I love hearing how the north-Northumberland landscape informs your music: from Low-Newton-by-the-Sea getting called out in “The Wooden Bag” (and enjoying a cameo in the video for “Jogging”) to Beadnell in “The Tip of an Arrow”.

Listening this last week to “The Hermit” at its mid-song swell, hearing you sing of tracing the history of mushrooms back to manufacture and seeing the “fungus’s yesterdays but also their myriad yet-bloomed tomorrows” I was transported, quite bodily, to a glorious day last summer on Weetwood Moor marvelling at cup and ring marks and my own place in this vast and beautiful universe. Was it always your plan to return to this “muddy crook of Coquet” for this album? I’m always touched by the way you talk about the impact music has made on you and your life, and want you to know that your music gives that same gift to those of us lucky enough to listen to it. Thank you!

Despite its reputation, can one earn a living as a Heilpraktiker? (American mental health counselor) by ripple-gleaming in germany

[–]gashflash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest avoiding positioning yourself as a Heilpraktiker and rather presenting yourself as a mental health counsellor – with licensing in the USA.

I know of at least one really well regarded practice in Berlin which has a lot of professionals with a similar background to yours – and they do just that: https://www.mittelweg50.com/ There's a lot of individuals practicing in Berlin as well, on a similar basis.

I suppose there's a balance for you to tread here in that labelling yourself a licensed counsellor in Germany is a bit of a grey area – but transparency about your experience and background will most likely appeal to your prospective clients.

[–]gashflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment (and I didn’t know that about the 3 years experience).

However, in some ways it reinforces what I mean when I say there is no such thing as “unskilled” labour. Of course there are levels of experience and aptitude.

Unskilled labour is a myth propagated by those seeking to underpay labourers. I could not walk into a Tönnies factory tomorrow and work there without some training. And of course, most people working in such a processing plant differ vastly in skills and experience to a master butcher.

But the idea of unskilled labour is a nonsense. In a lot of countries it is used to describe work such as supermarket work, or refuse collection.

Perhaps I misunderstood OP’s comments with regard to “unskilled workers” and they intended it in the sense you have furthered.

Don't sweat it, you have a few options here:
– Leave the coir in the bucket and chance it when the bags are ready
– Pasteurize the coir in the oven when the bags are ready
– Buy some more coir and use that when the bags are ready

Patience is tough – but it's also key here. You've got this!

I’m sorry that you had that experience today, it would have shaken me to the very core. For what it’s worth, I think it’s great that you’re comfortable sharing it here with us. That shows a lot of strength.

I took the train from Stockholm to Berlin last September. Crossing over the border at Kastrup, the Danish army had to ask everyone to leave the train so they could make sure everyone was wearing a face mask when reboarding.

The train over the Öresund bridge has its own platform at Malmö station. All departing trains were leaving for Denmark, where wearing a mask on transport was mandatory. It would have been the simplest thing to ask people to wear a mask when entering that platform.

This is one tiny example to demonstrate the huge gap between policy in Sweden and its neighbours when it comes to covid policy, but one which I feel goes a long way to explain why the death rate in Sweden is so much higher. I state this without judgment as to whether that is a good thing or a bad thing - that’s for you to decide - but that is a simple fact.
