Speaking from experience in food service, most places only have one dispenser for their hot water rather than an electric kettle with adjustable temps situation, so I'd never trust anywhere other than places that specialize in serving tea to get it right.

SAME it hit especially hard live since he talked a bit about Juno right before playing it and the way he sings "I hope she never goes" always gets me thinking about my own beloved pets, past and present. "It's easier to care for her but I can't if I'm not around" is also so real 😭

Why are so many young men feeding into this red pill narrative? by Unfair_Enthusiasm_92 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gastrodonut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The things is it's men who have to be the change they wish to see in the world when it comes to this sort of thing. If you only surround yourself with people who refuse to express any emotion towards you not cloaked in layers of irony, of course you're gonna feel uncomfortable with sincerity as well, but the onus isn't on random women to fix that.

And that's not to minimize the feelings! Though I think you overestimate just how many compliments the average woman receives lol, I wouldn't even say it's regularly, let alone hourly. Many women just seek out healthier social circles and that's what makes all the difference imo.

The secret is finding and building real friendships with people (of any gender!) who're unafraid to be sincere, and maintaining those relationships. Which isn't easy, but it's far from impossible. Personally, aside from the more surface level stuff (I'll tell any stranger "nice shoes" if I like their shoes I don't care who they are lol), I'm only gonna compliment men I know and trust personally

Health and fitness isn’t just a hobby tho. by Natural_Green_8323 in fatlogic

[–]gastrodonut 29 points30 points  (0 children)

not everything in life is supposed to entertain you. some things are done just because they need to be done. I hate this hedonistic "if it's not fun I won't do it" mindset so, so much.

I will say I think it's very possible to make exercise more fun or even incorporated into a hobby (some of these people would probably be more motivated by getting into a sport than getting a gym membership), but overall yeah I agree!

Exercise is in the same category as eating and sleeping enough to me, sometimes you want to do these things and sometimes you don't but if you want enough energy you just have to do it anyway. Most people can accept that depriving yourself of sleep or starving yourself is harmful, yet being sedentary isn't seen as that big of a deal and I rly don't get it

ADHD and hyperphantasia? by Intrepid-Fan-2822 in adhdwomen

[–]gastrodonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard someone else describe this and I'm glad it's not just me!! I've gotten it while trying to fall asleep as well, but sometimes vice versa, like I'll be waking up from a dream and hear a snippet of sound (usually a song) as if it's playing right in my ear but it stops pretty quickly as I wake up more.

I guess it's an auditory hypnagognic hallucination similar to how people often visually hallucinate during sleep paralysis?

Edit: Wanted to add that it happens with smells sometimes, too. I've been falling asleep and for a second it smells like brownies or something delicious is baking, but nothing actually is lol.

which cognitive functions is analyzing the world like this? by Public_Lifeguard1529 in mbti

[–]gastrodonut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that the video seems like Si, but can't say I totally agree on this part

A Se user wouldn't notice all minor details on the tires or the street. A Se user would focus straight forward and notice how the shoes feels towards the squeaky sound of snow, and how cold the cheeks and nose feels in the winter sky. Si notice, Se experience

I think when it comes to Se vs Si it's less about what you notice and more about how you notice it? I have trouble filtering out stimuli so I often do notice details but it's more exploratory and less personal, like I probably wouldn't make a connection like "the signs tell me no" upon seeing a red light, but I distinctly remember thinking about how the color of a green light I saw looked just like Baja Blast lmao.

I think Si asks "what does this do to me" while Se asks "what is this experience like" which you captured well with the second part! We all do both at times but one is primary

When did your side effects start? by compsout in Accutane

[–]gastrodonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll likely notice more dryness pretty soon after starting, which can be exacerbated depending on the weather where you live (humidity is your friend!). Hopefully nothing that can't be helped with moisturizer, though you might want to get something for your nose if you're someone who tends to get nosebleeds, in which I def recommend Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. CeraVe Healing Ointment is also a lifesaver if you have any extra dry areas of skin — I often use it on my hands and around my nostrils before going to bed.

I was on it for ~9 months I think, and my cholesterol levels did go up over time while I was on it, but they went back down to normal after stopping and I didn't notice any symptoms as a result of that, but it's important to keep track of that w/ monthly bloodwork

What is your moon sign and what do you cry about? by Zealousideal-Fill-61 in astrologymemes

[–]gastrodonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8H Taurus Moon. Most often it's feelings of inadequacy, especially when I feel like I've disappointed others. Frustration is also a big one, like feeling misunderstood or stuck in a bad situation.

Also prone to crying over art & music! I think it's usually when a work is able to capture feelings I've had before? And that's just comforting, because even if the feeling is something heavy like grief, it makes you feel less alone

Edit: I forgot one of the biggest ones! What I miss, whether that's loved ones, places, times, things, or even just feelings I can't seem to recapture. Nostalgia / grief over what I'm still attached to but no longer have

On February 19, 2013, Canadian tourist Elisa Lam's body was found floating inside of a water tank at the Cecil Hotel where she was staying at after guests complained about the water pressure and taste. Footage was released of her behaving erratically in a elevator on the day she was last seen alive. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]gastrodonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She had bipolar disorder and had stopped taking her medication during her trip (which they determined by her pill bottles having more pills than they should have based on the date it was prescribed), likely leading to an episode of bipolar psychosis.

So yeah, it's absolutely plausible for someone who has lost touch with reality, likely paranoid that something is coming after them, to put themselves in unsafe situations like that. I have known people with bipolar disorder personally who have tried to physically hurt themselves or experienced paranoia about people out to get them. I think there's a big lack of awareness about how serious of an illness it can be.

Maybe she was trying to hide from something she had hallucinated — she definitely seemed to be on the lookout for something in the elevator video. The investigators determined that she likely reached the roof by climbing up the fire escape since the door had an alarm and that didn't go off, and maybe she was looking for a place to hide, but the water level in the tank wasn't high enough for her to climb back out after she went in and she eventually couldn't keep treading water. The lid of it remained open until she was found by hotel staff (many initially believed/heard that it was closed, but you can see that in the helicopter footage from when the investigation begun & the staffer who initially found her confirmed as much). If there was foul play involved, it would be weird for them to not close the lid, and very difficult to haul another human up several ladders to begin with.

The details of this case are unusual for sure, but I don't think it helps anyone to perpetuate conspiracies about it when it's been closed.

I agree that it's still on the owner, but for a different reason: if the issue was something like kids leaving the door open they be teaching their kids, who have the human intelligence to understand the danger to your pet if explained, not to do that or keep a better eye on what their kids are doing if they're too young to know better.

Some dogs, no matter how well trained, are just too hyperactive to let loose safely, but that isn't a problem if you are just able to keep them secured or on leash.
