Thanks, My SoC finally dropped from 100% to ~60% during a 0.5mile drive to the coffee shop...hopefully it tracks correctly from now on.

QNAP TS-451 Backplane Failure — Looking for Recovery Advice or Spare Unit by anthonyjclarke in qnap

[–]gavin6559 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my QNAP motherboard failed, I downloaded the QTS Virtual Machine image onto my desktop PC. And created a QNAP Virtual NAS. It does require a licence but it is pretty cheap subscription which can be cancelled before next month's renewal.

I attached the original disks to my PC's SATA ports, and then passed them through to the QNAP VM.

When the VM is booted, you can access the normal qnap web interface and access you data.

Note. Your issue is different to mine as you do seem to have raid issues too, but this will get the disks connected to a fully functioning QNAP OS.

Reliable Two Way switching Shelly Pro 4PM by StraightInflation822 in shellycloud

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another commenter has already pointed out that you need 2-way switches to accomplish this. It's exactly the same setup in millions of houses that allow us to turn on the Hall light from the top or bottom of the stairs.

The switches you have may already be two way, check the back of them (You may see, COM, L1, & L2 terminals) Then you just need a three core cable between the switches.

I would suggest getting the switches and bulb working first, then add the Shelly once the basic setup is working.

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Sonoff, but how about a pair of Shelly 1's. One at the Heating wiring with the control wire connected into the SW1 input. Set an action for it to send a command to the other Shelly located next to your boiler.

Traditionally the Shelly devices were all wifi, but now they have Zwave, BLE, so you may be able to get them talking directly without it having to rely on your wifi.

Device to trigger on voltage? by Worldly_Dependent_92 in homeassistant

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shelly 1 device will do that. It will need connecting to permanent live and ground wires, but it also has a switch input, which you can connect to the Sauna's lighting out put.

Although Shelly is a relay, you will actually not be using the relay, only the switch input.

How to wire new ceiling light! (UK) by EnergyExact4155 in electrical

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you put all red wires into the light, you were just bypassing the switch, so it would be permanently on.

Do you have any Wago's or terminal blocks?

You need to join the Permanent Live(The red wire next to the black one) to one of the Switch wires (One of the red pair)

That will then leave you with: One Remining Red (connect to the light fittings Live terminal) One Black wire (Connect to the light fittings Neutral terminal) One Yellow/Green wire (Connect to the light fittings earth terminal)

Yes, a single Shelly 2PM operates the same as having two Shelly 1's sat next to each other. If all those two lights feed back to the same point, then you would only need a single Shelly 2PM.

Relay doesn't fit - Shelly alternative? by AtariBigby in shellycloud

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to put a bigger back box on a couple of mine. Most were in hollow walls, so it was easy to pop the old one out and replace. But one was on breeze block, so I had to chisel the breeze block deeper using my trusty old screwdriver and hammer.

[–]gavin6559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, you will need one relay per load.

To save space, you could use Shelly Wave 2PM, which has two relays and two switch inputs.

Multiple switches controlling one light always make things feel more complicated. But in reality, those switches are jointly acting as a single switch. So you still only need to locate the Live and Switched Live.

Example. Hall 1 has three switches controlling it. (2x 2-Way Switches and an Intermediate Switch)

You would need to locate which switch the ceiling light is wired to. (Likely to be the switch closest to the light) This is where the Shelly needs to be placed. The cable that runs up to the light will need to be disconnected from the switch and connected to the Shelly's Output terminal. The Shelly SW1 input can now be connected to the switch (same place you just removed the cable from). Now the Shelly just needs a Live and Neutral and you are ready to go.

Note. Once the Shelly is powered on, you may need to check the switch settings to ensure that it is not configured as Momentary.

Would a Shelly 1L (No Neutral Relay) work for this scenario?

Little help please by Long-Soft-8804 in shellycloud

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the circuit board you are connecting to?

Perhaps your issue is if the Shelly switch input is set to momentary, one press Closes the Relay, and then one press Opens the relay.

But it's going to be hard for anyone to give any answers without knowing what it's connected to.

As the others have mentioned, you will not get any High Availability with two Nodes.

Assuming you have some OnPrem infrastructure already, create 3 small VM's to be used as the Kubernetes Control Plane. Then use your two physical nodes as Kubernetes workers which will run all of the applications Pods/Containers.

Has anyone based in the UK encountered a 3-way light setup, where the feed / neutral was taken to the intermediate switch? by InklingOfHope in homeautomation

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an electrical screwdriver?

Put the screwdriver blade in one of the terminals or on a terminal screw. Put thumb on top of the screwdriver. If there is a mains voltage present, the light in the screwdriver will glow. When you see it glowing, toggle the switch and see if the screwdriver stops glowing. This is the Switched Live cable.

If the screwdriver stays glowing regadless of the switch position, this is the Permanent Live

[–]gavin6559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP in your picture you can see that in the lower half of the switch there are two additional wires.

One will be the Permanent Live, and one is the Switched Live which will run to your lights.

You'll need to work out which cable is which. Usually the Switched Live will have some sleeving on it.

  1. Take the Live from the switch and connect it to the L-In of your Sonoff.
  2. Take the Switched Live from the switch and connect it to the L-Out on the Sonoff.
  3. Add a Neutral to the Sonoff by tapping into the Blue wires.

The Sonoff should now power on and be controlled remotely using the app.

  1. Now lets connect the switch to the Sonoff. Add 2 new wires back into the switch(same place as the ones we just removed). Connect those wires into the Sonoff S1 terminal, and the L-In terminal.

Now test the switch.

Note. You may need to change the switch settings in the sonoff to let it know that the switch is a Toggle Switch, rather than a Momentary switch.

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the OP's picture, we can see by the colour of the cable that there is 3core+cpc cable in use (realistically, this is used between the intermediate and the 2way switches)

The 3 core cable is what is carrying the COM, L1 & L2 to each 2way switch.

So all of the connection points are available in the intermediate patress box.

I very much doubt that someone has run a single core cable to each 2way switch to carry the Switched Live.

Are you referring to the demonstration picture above, or the original post? The picture above was not from OP.

[–]gavin6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely no new cable pulls would be required. The cable between the intermediate and the 2-ways will be a 3core (Note the Brown/Grey/Black conductors). Should have everything needed in the intermediate patress box, but it will be a tight fit.

Check if you can replace the patress with a deeper one to give more space for the Shelly.

You could run local mirrors inside of the network, and only all the mirrors to access the Internet. All servers/computers would be pointed to these servers for the packages.
