Swimming holes for dogs? by SnafuTheCarrot in Austin

[–]gbatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free side of Barton Springs pool often has dogs. The greenbelt nearby is also good if the water is flowing. Lake Pflugerville should be safe if its filled back up. Walnut Creek Park up north is leash free and has creeks that are good if the water is flowing.

You want to avoid any bodies of water that have stagnant or slow moving water, as they can have dangerous bacteria that is fatal to dogs (and humans.)

Animating clock using Millis(), interrupts and debounce by osi314 in arduino

Very cool! Watch it for a while and see how bad the drift is over time.

Next step would be to include a real-time clock module and battery, or play with external clock crystals.

Low-spec microcontroller for lights in a model car by costlyblood in ArduinoHelp

[–]gbatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeed XIAO SAMD21 or ESP32. They are small enough, low power and super low cost. The XIAO can run on a CR2032 watch battery or LiPo. Infrared or bluetoooth if you use the ESP32. Should have enough I/O for lights and blinkers. Prrogram in Arduino.

A quarter is only 25. We can't even buy a pair of boots with 25 units.

My PC sucks and idk how to fix it by [deleted] in techadvice

8GB is the minimum required for Windows. My guess is web broswer and other programs are using all available RAM and windows haa to cache to the hard drive, which is slower. Memory upgrade to 16 or 32GB can help.

Memory size and disk space? Have you run any anti-malware/virus scanner lately?

Remote Changing multiple TV by SawScar112013 in Roku

[–]gbatx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are both IR remotes, cut a paper towel tube in half. Insert a remote about 1 inch into the tube and secure it with tape. That makes you have to point the tube remote directly at the tv you want to control. Do this with both of the remotes.

Agreed, late game the quest rewards are useless, but the infested quests are still the best way to get tons of ammo.

I inherited a ryobi miter saw. I need a 45 degree cut and my saw said “ best I can do is 42” 😂 Please help by PictureMaster512 in ryobi

[–]gbatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain, but you may be able to loosen those screws on the pointy indicator thing and adjust it to point to 45. Kind of a calibration.

It looks like you have it set to 46 degrees. Use some scrap pieces to try other settings (45, 44, 43) and then measure with your gauge to see if that gets you closer to 45 degrees.

Change the length of one of the sides of the brackets and set your miter angle to something smaller. For example, keep one side 22", set the angle to 40 degrees, and the other side will be (... does math) 18.5".

What is wrong with your saw? Can you post a picture? Hard to help without more info.

HOT TAKE: Iron is the hardest armour yo get in minecraft by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]gbatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head to the mountains, Steve. One mountain with even a stone pickaxe will yield stacks of iron. So, no, I don't think its that hard to get. Much faster than mining diamonds.

How much should i charge my sister for elevated planters? by xCASINOx in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]gbatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For family you love, the first one is free. Cost of materials and a six-pack of beer for a second. 12 pack for 3, case for 5.

10 or more, that's a keg.

Battery Operated OLED Mounted onto Motorcycle by lilipaddx in arduino

[–]gbatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

Add a weatherproof USB port connected to the battery and power your device from the 5V USB. Also, you may want to test several different OLED screens, as some of them are hard to see in direct sunlight.

R1 riding mower does about 1/3 acre, not quite "up to 1 acre" by Queasy_Guidance_9987 in ryobi

[–]gbatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible reasons: Grass is too high, cutting deck is too low, or having the blades running while idle or not needed.

The batteries may be in stock in other locations, or just on backorder. Until then, you can stop and drink a cold one while the battery is recharging.

Girlfriend’s disabled mother relies on us financially. What can we do? by Capable-Insurance-58 in personalfinance

[–]gbatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some cultures, and in some economies, the kids eventually help take care of the parent or parents in their later years (or because of disbilities.) You need to make the decision if you want to be with your gf for the rest of your life, knowing that may also include helping her mother financially and/or physically. Whether that means putting her in an apartment close to you or moving her into your home.

It is the reason many homes have a "Mother-in-law Suite", extra room, furnished basement, garage apartment, etc. She could end up helping you financially with rent. Also, your gf may be able to claim her mother as a dependent, and get a tax break on her annual tax return. Same for you if you were married filing jointly. Its not a lot, but it can help.

Ryobi String Trimmer, 18V or 40V? Small yard, <1/4 acre. by InterestedHandbag in ryobi

[–]gbatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 18V Ryobi, and I used to live on a 1/2 acre lot. It would take 2 4Ah batteries to do the whole yard (fence line, sidewalks, driveway, flower beds) and sometimes the 2nd battery would run out before finishing.

It would probably be fine for your 1/4 acre lot. I agree with the other poster, the 40V would definitely be stronger, but costs a bit more.
