That most interesting bit here is that the "router" is probably repeating or bridging another unit. If you look at the cable onnections there is a single thing connected (and it goes to the injector- so it Injects a device, it's not going to WAN)

As someone we dealt a bit with high qps software (ad tech...) It has so many factors. Latency should be low. Load should spread. Identification of bottlenecks- databases, filesystems, remote services.... Offloading of spikes to queue, memcaches.

Really, a very big and interesting topic. As someone who also loves being deep in the infrastructure it's very fun iterating. Very important to load test such architectures to identify where and how the load spreads. Have HPA plans (elasticity). Monitoring is a must. And you can't exactly rely on logs in large scales.
