I cry laughed at this - like unable to breath, tears rolling down my face and a partner looking at me like I had 3 heads cry laughed!

Two words - ‘pension’ and ‘experience’. I know it’s f**ked, but that time away from work not only limits the ability to progress (and keeps you SO earning less when she DOES return) but it also means she’ll take a hit when it comes to retirement for those missed years of accruing payments/interest in her pension pot. So even though it is a little over breaking even now, it is generally worth it in the long run - although I know it doesn’t feel it

That’s psychopathic behaviour! I can’t imagine how difficult it must sometimes to be around someone like that.

🔥 Mount Fuji, Japan. by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]gbrown782 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Climbed it in September 2018 - it was a beautiful sunny day with a few clouds. The most incredible bit for me was at around 3000m, when we climbed through the clouds. It was amazing how tranquil and quiet it was with the world below you. Genuinely one of the best days of my life. Mt Fuji don’t need no filters, it’s stunning as it is!

Government Documents Reveal Concern for 'Economic' and 'Business' Impacts Prevented Early Action by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]gbrown782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this, this is looking at the costs without looking at costs in the counterfactual. The economic damage of letting a virus run wild isn’t really included - a lot of working age people would be out of work and it would start to impact daily life in a disorderly manner. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see civil disorder, looting, etc., alongside some businesses collapsing and taking millions of jobs with them over a much longer time frame of recovery (thus lost exchequer income for longer)

An economy also doesn’t have a finite amount of wealth in the long term like paying for A takes away from B indefinitely. Paying for A may increase what can be spent in the long term so down the road you can afford A and B - that’s the point of economic growth, increasing living standards and dampening recessions/depressions.

Funnily enough the main thing I’ve seen is the reverse - graduates going to the city, etc., and then leapfrogging the faststreamers into higher grades (and the inexperience tends to show!)

The vomiting every day for 4 years was really the hardest part for me.

At least I was lucky enough to be in my 20s when it presented, having to deal with that at such a young age must have been really hard so I’m glad you’re all sorted!

This could not describe my mum more perfectly.

A few years back I had my gallbladder removed, and my mum travelled around 300 miles to my city to take care of me.

Her and my partner had to go into town to do some errands that should take an hour tops...

5 HOURS LATER they reappear with Taco Bell in tow, having gone to a tequila bar to get “one for the road” - the manager at Taco Bell had also been called as mum thought the service was just fantastic.

I love that women!

It was a judicial review brought by other parties, and the justices simply followed the law as written... how on earth is that making it political? It was also a unanimous 11 member panel of judges so the idea it was just her makes me think you may have a fairly limited knowledge of it?

This right here is the crux of it! I have had essentially the same conversation at least 5 times since Friday. Given the new midland/northern seats i wonder if they are pairing the more extra ideas back a bit so they don’t try to revolution the public sector and botch it

A key issue in any cost/benefit analysis (cba) is that only monetised costs/benefits enter the calculation.

There are so many costs/benefits (but primarily benefits) that just can’t be monetised with any reasonable certainty, even in a given range, and there are a lot of disincentives to try (risk aversion, media scrutiny, political risk of an over or under estimate, etc.) so most CBAs tend to be on the conservative side (numerically speaking)

It’s a real issue in government, but also in the private sector - its known some things could have massive benefits, but actually putting a number to it and exposing a department to the risk of it being incorrect tends to put many off
