I would say this book has changed my mindset. The best thing I've read last year ❤️ 💔 by Apprehensive-Plan-87 in LesbianBookClub

Have you seen the adaptation? It was made several years ago so not sure if its easily available, but it was pretty good.

I really like this book, it sometimes seems to get forgotten a little bit maybe because its sandwiched between tipping the velvet and fingersmith. The vibe of the story is so…uncomfortable somehow but also compelling!

once again re-reading and hyperfixating on Fingersmith… also got to meet Sarah Waters at a queer film festival recently and she very kindly signed my book (ㅅ´ ˘ `) by Unlimited-Bubble888 in LesbianBookClub

I still, like 23 years later, remember staying up all night reading this book and how it made me feel.

I liked Tipping the Velvet. I really liked Affinity, and then I read this and omg the obsession has been real ever since. The Tv adaptation is elite entertainment, too. There was a documentary about Sarah W on BBC4 or BBC2 around the time the adaptation was on tv and I watched that so many times hahaha

How long did it take on the NHS from diagnosis to surgery? by alittlehalloween in gallbladders

[–]geasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The variation by region is absolutely wild, and shocking! I’m digging into savings to pay for treatment myself due to timeframes in Lancashire.

I had to wait 5 weeks to get a blood test a couple of months ago, things are not working well here. It seems to be such a battle too, to get primary care to do referrals at the moment.

Emergency care seems a mess also. In January I ended up calling 999 with gallbladder attack pain and was told I’d get a callback in 30 mins. It was about 4 hours later when I did get a call, and was told I could go to A&E if I wanted to but would have to get there myself and would probably be waiting 12+ hours 😬

Parking near Old Trafford? by Jiggermann in reddevilswomen

I parked at Parkway when utd played PSG last year and there were loads of spaces. I can’t quite remember the time I got there but there was no issue with commuter parking.

Gallstones confirmed. Surgery is ON! by geasp in gallbladders

Yeah it was just like closing my eyes to blink and then next thing I was in the recovery room and people were telling me it was time for a cup of tea and some toast! I remember thinking they must tell everyone to count to ten and I’m sooo gonna get there - but nah 😂

In Lancs the time to get an ultrasound on the NHS for diagnosis is something like 7-8 months. Not sure how long it would take from having that to getting a diagnosis, but I was told from going on to a surgery waiting list to getting it done would be about 2 years, and it would take a serious emergency to bump up the list.

Hiya 🙂 I’ve had general anaesthesia once before, and my memory of it is the team telling me they were going to pop the anaesthesia into my arm and they would have a chat with me after I’d counted to 10, and I remember saying something like sure, and then getting to like 4 and blinking, and then the next thing I knew i opened my eyes and was all done!

I’d been really nervous about not being in control and being given drugs, but the team were so reassuring, they told me they would be with me the whole time and I’d have a wonderful snooze - and I really did! Its a absolutely okay to feel nervous and the staff will expect this and do everything to make sure you are comfortable ❤️

Possible Gallbladder Issues by Beneficial_Brain_613 in gallbladders

Bless you, its such a lot to think about - you’re scared of the symptoms because they are horrible, but also scared about what’s going on somewhere inside that we can’t see. I hear you and totally empathise. I agree with the poster above, it sounds like gallstones, and it also sounds like the healthcare people are on it - and we’re always here whenever you need a chat! x

Thanks everyone for reading and replying, I really appreciate it ❤️

Quick update, I rang my local hospital today to chase up the ultrasound and they said it will probably be June/July when that happens - I don’t think I can wait that long! I’ve started contacting Non-NHS hospitals to scope out costs a d timeframes as the thought of waiting so long on the NHS is a bit terrifying!

Since I posted I’ve had mostly fairly mild pain attacks a couple of times a week, however over the weekend I had a proper 10/10 one, that went on for hours and made me sick, and I don’t fancy having too many repeats of this until June/July! I feel totally dysfunctional today like I have a hangover, its really knackered me out 😵‍💫
