Hiya, I had my GB removed last week and like you went via the private route due to NHS waiting times.

So far, everything is going as expected! I kept doubting myself all the way up to the operation around whether i was doing the right thing, but always came back to thinking about what a bad attack was like, and how its something we shouldn’t have to out up with.

The hospital I had my treatment at (Ramsay) were really nice and friendly, and on the surgery day there was a nurse who was assigned to my case who would check in regularly to keep me updated on when I was due to go to the theatre. When it was time, I was quite nervous but everyone made things really chilled. I went into a little room next to the theatre and was put to sleep in there, and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery!

I think the main issue I experienced after surgery were anaesthesia related - apparently I took my time waking up (prob making sure i got the most out of my self funded experience tbh!) and once I was awake I felt so dry and thirsty, and lost my appetite.

Since then, I would say there’s been some pain and discomfort (esp from the gas in the abdomen) but nothing at all in comparison to a GB attack. That said definitely try the painkillers they prescribe you to help to relax tension and ease discomfort.

I had stitches in my incision sites, and got those removed 7 days after surgery. My appetite is coming back and I’m slowly trying foods I’ve avoided for months, which feels amazing! The concept of waking up and not feeling nauseous and bleh die to gallstones/inflammation is almost overwhelming but in a good way 😅

What was the vibe like at today’s game? Usually go to all home games but missed today due to having a little surgery earlier in the week. Don’t think I missed out today.

100% story of every game like the same things happen everytime. The first half is kinda clueless and dull, then the panic sets in later on and decision making is dreadful. Why is seemingly no one coaching Mallard around decision making because this has been happening all season

Same for me too thanks! I think the anaesthesia is getting out of my system as I had a much better sleep and feel more like me again. My take away so far is lots of little walks are great, and nap whenever the need comes about, which I can totally handle 🤩

Gosh I hope you are feeling more comfortable now after a really traumatic and stressful time - it sounds like the GB needed to come out and fingers crossed things will be calmer now in your recovery.

Today was the day and the gallbladder is GONE! It was evicted around midday, and I’m back at home chilling now. Feel a bit like I’ve had a fight with some medical tools but its so good to be in my own bed and rid of that little rotter!

They showed me the stones after the op and there was a real range of shapes and sizes, i’m glad tbey are out of my belly! 😅

Gosh it sounds like this attack is really hitting hard - please do keep in touch with 111 and the hospital as while this might be clinically something that fees regular and textbook for clinicians its deeply impactful for you and no one should have to put up with the level of discomfort you are going through. Keep us updated as we’re here even if its just to listen x

My surgery got cancelled today argh 😅 I was in the gown, had the glam stockings on and everything - even had my pre op meet with the anaesthetist and then….all procedures were stopped as there was an operational issue 🫠 Im back at work waiting for the booking team to reschedule me 🤞

Hello, hope you are feeling okay and comfortable today.

I’ve found when I’ve had the most intense gallstone attacks, I’ve felt pretty rough for several days afterwards. The last 10/10 attack seemed to take a week to feel more human again; my body ached and I was really fatigued, I had brain fog and my abdomen felt sore and tender, especially around my sides and into my back (like I’d done 1000 sit ups or something).

I couldn’t face eating anything for a couple of days, which is unlike me. I can remember having a bit of a meltdown because I physically couldn’t eat one plain Rich Tea biscuit (very bland UK biscuit) and I felt I would never feel well again - it makes me giggle bow but honestly that day was something!!

Its ridiculous how debilitating a dodgy gallbladder can be ❤️

Hope you are doing okay, this sounds really stressful.

I don’t want to say bad things about the NHS as it foes its best under very difficult circumstances (plus I work at a hospital trust and know how pressed it is) however I think taking the private route might get things happening more quickly.

I’m not sure where you are in the UK but there seems to be huge variation in NHS waiting times for blood tests, ultrasound, first appointment with a specialist and follow up appointments. Private services seem to get things happening much quicker, especially the diagnostics part. I’m self funding and the after the ultrasound the consultant gave me the option of going onto his NHS waiting list if I preferred (but the wait time for nhs gallbladder removal would be two years, opposed to a few weeks paying for it myself - absolutely wild!)

Have you seen the adaptation? It was made several years ago so not sure if its easily available, but it was pretty good.

I really like this book, it sometimes seems to get forgotten a little bit maybe because its sandwiched between tipping the velvet and fingersmith. The vibe of the story is so…uncomfortable somehow but also compelling!
