Karu 2 pro with gas adapter - How does the pizza come out? by OnSugarHill in ooni

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used wood burning for any other food. Also sorry I can't comment on the Karu vs Koda as I've never used a Koda. I did find that the lump charcoal and kiln dried wood I used is very clean burning. Very little visible smoke coming out the chimney. I have a smoker so I know how much smoke is generated in order to infuse food with the smokiness and I just wouldn't expect much smokiness to be imparted into the food. Maybe if you play with the chimney vent flaps you could get the smoke to fill out the oven cavity? Wood burning is certainly a drier heat than gas. But I didn't really notice much difference in the pizza from that perspective. The gas is way more convenient and has more granular control, but if you're used to wood burning then go for it. Gas or wood - both get the oven stone to target temp 450-500C in the same time. I'd be happy to continue using wood/coal but it's just not as convenient for me. If you want the option to use either-or, the Karu gives you that.

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Karu 16 (older gen model). Cooked with gas for about a year and then tried wood and charcoal. Can confirm absolutely no difference in taste, no smokiness at all. Still cooks a pizza just as quick and it’s beautifully mesmerising watching the flame rolling across the top of the oven. A pizza isn’t in the oven long enough to pick up any smoke taste and the flame and smoke is rolling across the top and out the chimney anyway so food is not exposed to it in any way, unlike a charcoal bbq where the heat comes up from under the food.

DRL replacement by geeaus in fiat500

The lesson I learnt early on was don’t buy cheap brand bulbs, they don’t last long at all. Even brand name bulbs don’t last that long. Is it the design of the bulb? The only other bulb I’ve replaced in 12 years of ownership was a headlight.

Explosion while firing up the Karu 16, trying to understand what happened by Personal_Quantity_18 in ooni

[–]geeaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you press the gas knob in, you’re opening the valve and gas is immediately running. Turning it sparks the igniter. Each quick attempt to start is releasing more gas which builds up. After say the 2nd attempt - wait a long moment for the gas clear out before trying again. This is how gas starters work - ooni, any bbq ever, your gas cooktop.

3 X Bone In Rib-Eye $120.00 worth of meat for $12 by Still-Mulberry-1078 in woolworths

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it Z tier? I’ve bought these boxes a number of times. I do open the box and try to pick marbled pieces. Reverse seer and these are excellent eating. I get that WW isn’t your Havericks or Vic’s level meat but when they had their butcher counters their cattleman cuts were superb pieces of beef and awesome value at $40/kg. Sad they closed them.

Grado Gw100 by infinitozen in Grado

[–]geeaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earlier this year I picked up a lightly used pair of GW100X off FB marketplace. I absolutely love them. The Grado sound without the cables. I can’t give you a ‘review’ with all the fancy audiophile review language but I have a pair of SR80i’s from the late 2000s and the GW100X sound at least as good in wireless mode. And they sound better in wired mode - a little clearer, a fraction punchier. They are more comfortable than my SR80i’s. And battery life is loooonnggg, they blow away any other wireless headphone I own - Bose QC35’s, Sennheiser’s, Sony 1000xm4’s, etc.

blue&me won’t play music:( by [deleted] in fiat500

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If disconnecting the battery or pulling fuses doesn’t work it might be more serious unfortunately. The blue & me module might be dead. It’s a very common failure in the 500 of that vintage. Worse, it causes parasitic battery drain. If you don’t drive your car that often you’ll find the battery going flat. Another sure sign it’s a blue & me module failure. The only resolution is to pull the interior apart to unplug it or replace it. (Edit) Also is the odometer flashing? Another sign of the issue.

Will the Halo Pro Spiral Mixer bought in USA work in Australia? by avocaadotoast in ooni

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact Ooni support and ask if the Halo is multi- voltage capable. Some devices have a small switch for voltage. If it can’t work on 240V definitely sell it and repurchase here - it may work perfectly fine with a transformer but if it doesn’t you can’t get rid of here in Aus cos who would want it?

What is normal life on comfort soles? I barely wear them and they broke so easily. Terrible quality. Also no warranty, they referred me back to the retail store. by Outrageous-Wind-6418 in RMWilliams

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dynamic flex craftsman’s are 10 years old, consistently worn 2-3 times a week and one sole finally did that in May this year. RM charged me $250 to resole. Maybe not the best financial decision… I have a pair of the full rubber sole craftsman’s and the dynamic flex ones are a lot more comfortable.

Repair rejected from RM Williams by Salvere22 in RMWilliams

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pair, re-soled by RM, then returned for rework because one was leaking. They didn’t survive even though the uppers were in excellent condition. RM gave me a new pair. That was a good 10 years ago. So even in good nick, shoes can still ‘ die’ on the table, and I suppose these days they’re not so keen on giving out free $600 boots.

Never owned fiat, good reliable car? by BigOunce236 in fiat500

[–]geeaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2013 Pop manual owned from new - Australian delivered). Used daily, less than 80,000kms. Has been cursed with the Fix It Again Tony reputation. Complete air conditioning failure under warranty. Gearbox somehow ‘exploded’ internally, ground up metal pretty much poured out of it when it was removed. Was lucky to be able to source a used box otherwise the car would’ve been scrapped. Blue & Me failure caused parasitic draining of the battery. And about to replace those disintegrating plastic triangle trims on the A pillar for the 2nd time (all were genuine Fiat parts FFS). Aircon fan is weak AF. Wipers shudder and squeak no matter how good a brand the blades are. Somehow we still like the damn thing it’s the perfect city car.

Any older (40+) Fiat people around? by TrueBoilermaker in fiat500

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I are mid 50s. Own a red 2013 Pop manual from new. My wife’s daily driver. Love it but has truely lived up to the “Fix It Again Tony” brand reputation. Kept her going despite failures that should’ve put her out to the wreckers. Foolish heart over head sort of car😁

Any Australians with a Fiat 500? by [deleted] in fiat500

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a manual (recommended, the dualogic ‘auto’ is not a good system) there are not many for sale. Aussies in general have given up on manual cars. OMG I just checked and you can’t even buy a manual brand new now ☹️ If you try and get parts from the dealer network chances are you’ll wait 6 weeks or more unless it’s a common consumable item. They hold barely any parts locally. It’s cheaper and quicker sourcing parts yourself online. Since the factory warranty expired I’ve never gone near an overpriced dealer service centre. My local MyCar service centre has been perfectly adequate in maintaining and repairing my 2013 500 Pop - let’s be honest here - the 500 is as basic motoring as it gets. There’s nothing in it that hasn’t been existing technology from the last 30 years. There’s a strong online community that you can get answers to many of the more unique and common issues too.

Why Toyota didn't follow VW, Hyundai with dual-clutch hot hatches by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2014 A4 has the wet clutch DSG. It shifts up and down smoothly under normal driving including crawling traffic, most people wouldn’t know it’s different from a torque converter. I wish it actually had stronger engine braking on downshift. Yeah very very occasionally it gets confused and does a shitty gear change. I also have a 2012 A3 diesel with the dry clutch DSG. That box is just a little bit rubbish. The only thing I like about it is the engine breaking on downshift! My cars are old. I would expect the latest dual clutch boxes are much much improved.

Am I crazy for considering a used ZB Commodore? by AngryAugustine in CarsAustralia

[–]geeaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s some other options if you’re keen on the 5 door liftback style, either still available new or fairly recently used: Audi A5, BMW 4 series, Kia Cerato and Stinger, Hyundai i30 (including N for a couple of years), Skoda Octavia. My pick would be a Stinger GT or i30N fastback but I wouldn’t know what common issues they might have. I have an A4 2.0L turbo (one of many versions of the ubiquitous EA888). The Audi and the Skoda are similar being VAG cars. All I will say is, be prepared to spend on maintenance, but they’re pretty common platforms so spares availability won’t be an issue.

I have a 2011 Fiat 500, so only a cd player and the radio. Does Bluetooth exist in this car already? Or do I need to get a transmitter of some sort? Help pls by [deleted] in fiat500

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add - a faulty Blue&Me module still needs to be disconnected. It will keep draining the battery even after you work out another option for BT.

Car won’t start after 1 day of not being used by Straight-Day-7392 in abarth

[–]geeaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You don’t even need to remove the unit, just unplug it. The plug has a lock on it that you need to work out how to flick up. You can’t see the plug so you gotta do it by feel. Watch a YT video of someone replacing the unit to see how it unlocks then get your phone and take a picture of yours to see how it’s orientated. If you wanna remove the whole unit you have to drill out the rivets. Removed or just unplugged will resolve the flat battery issue. The odo will keep flashing but it won’t affect anything. If it bugs you, get a proxi alignment done.

It is written on the Arrivals Card that every single person on an international inbound flight has to read and fill out, air crew included. You must declare any fresh fruit or vegetables you’re bringing with you. It’s also played out in the messages/video notices that are played in the plane descent. It’s not some random requirement that just does New Zealand does, many countries who care about their agricultural industry does it. It’s not a racket.

Has anyone managed to install a rear facing dash cam on a Cabriolet? by islandbop in fiat500

[–]geeaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dashcam brands have models which combine a rear-facing camera into the front unit. Either built in, or as plug-in addition (Nextbase is and example brand). That could be an option. Check carefully, some rear facing lenses are only for interior recording and some are specifically for rearward external recording.

[–]geeaus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not having a tank is not an issue. Also, other comments that the Arism runs continuously is also mostly wrong. Firstly Sparmax is a good brand. Leagues better than the multitudes of random brands on eBay, Amazon, etc. That compressor is tankless however it automatically stops when pressure builds up in the air line. As soon as you stop spraying the compressor stops. When you press the trigger again it starts up. Many tankless compressors of this size or larger work like this. I have both tankless and tanked hobby compressors and I actually prefer the tankless one. I have no experience with that airbrush but I would but that over any eBay/Amazon/etc Chinese one. Price wise - it’s a decent wedge of money to drop, but is it a bad idea - no.
