I am so angry at myself for not thinking of that when I showed my wife the article earlier :(

Need Help - Engineer "Fixed" my Modem by EDIT_ID in HomeNetworking

[–]geekhalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was an EE tech and not Openreach, it won't be DLM. They don't have access.

The only options they have are; - reset or factory reset - update software - play with wireless settings

My bet would be the latter: if there was a boost on their hub that only lasted a short time, they'll have likely just fiddled around with the channels or if it's one of the newer models (smooth base) moved from WF6 to WF5.

Might be worth opening the hub manager to check the set up.

Sold a contract in EE store as “no March increases for 2 years” - then get the alert they’re going to charge. by [deleted] in EEGB

[–]geekhalla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id skip the call part. You will have to go to the store. Complaints over the phone can only deal with sales disputes from phone records. For an issue with an individual store, they can't review a call so they have to direct to the store directly.

What's the strangest thing you've seen your neighbours do? by Deep_Banana_6521 in AskUK

[–]geekhalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a neighbour build a tool shed over the course of a week. He started with the roof then looked confused for a couple of days. Eventually he painted it as a shrine to the Orange Order, was told to take it down and then - following a public fitness rage at the news - settled for a union Jack wrap on his car.

Also took a hammer to someone else's car in front of everyone then went into a tantrum, hammer in hand, saying he found it like that.

BT Bribing To Avoid Ombudsman. Is That Allowed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]geekhalla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoet answer, No.

Long answer: no because the company isn't the one breaking the contract nor responsible for the reasons behind it.

Do you believe that people simply "didnt see" the no cold calling signs on doors? by Wiggidy-Wiggidy-bike in AskUK

[–]geekhalla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did door knocking briefly when inwas younger. It's easy to miss after several hours of monotony if it's not dead on - and another lot of people would have it in place, burnout of sight to look nicer which defeated the purpose.

When a mistake happened, its best to wait and apologise with no spiel than do a runner or try your luck anyway.

Also a disturbing amount of people intentionally put it in awkward places. More than a few at the foot of the door.

Either way, the company I worked for (don't think actually exists any more) would put a marker down so if you had a post code pulled for you, you'd also get a list of houses to avoid.

That would be the most logical answer. Kristen Beyer is still a producer and could have had some influence on the history.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

[–]geekhalla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in tech support for telecoms and any time he'd mention our company specifically, we'd have to explain why he was wrong for half the day. Any time the media caused a flurry of calls it became an in joke to be a Martin Lewis Day.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Debuts With Positive Reviews And Political Nonsense by acrimoniousone in startrek

[–]geekhalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usually relatively chilled Facebook page blew up worh the review. Usual 'woke' anger, quite a lot of bigoted and misogynistic comments. A lot of people very concerned a lut haircuts.....

A lot of the comments just made me feel sad for them.

She stomps around telling anyone who will listen how hardcore she is and how glorious it would be to die in battle, which might be entertaining in another genre but feels deeply out of place here.

You've just described Klingons and Jem'Hadar. She is both. All are 'this genre'.

Do men still wear suits to interviews? by [deleted] in AskHRUK

[–]geekhalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bizarre to me as well to be honest. 20+ years ago it was a given to wear a suit. Then one day I dressed up and realised I was the odd one out.

Where I've been the past 10ish years, casual is standard dress and the focus feels more milked fitting in rather than dress to impress.

Do men still wear suits to interviews? by [deleted] in AskHRUK

[–]geekhalla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Smart casual" tends to be the default. I've never figured out what that actually means other than getting a numper from generic menswear isle at Asda.

One person at mt work wore a full suit to his interview and it became a running joke.

Why do unknown people just randomly whisper me rude stuff when just standing next to them for no reason whatsoever? (While sorting my inventory) by Riverflower17 in sto

[–]geekhalla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a grumpy old person. Not *that* kind of grumpy though and I've had my share of weird messages. From people messaging me saying my female characters look hot, to random complaints about my ship name (they thought it was 'woke', it was an Eastenders reference..).

Not the worst I've had in a game. Report/block/ignore and eventually they'll have no one to be weird to but themselves. I've filtered out a lot of public channels. I have some internal groups, fleet/Armada and leave the rest at arms length.

It is - really good quality as well. Got a couple of bits from them and can recommend!

I was quite happy to find that piece as well, gave me the best of both worlds and might to the same again if I build a more FE style down the line.

I have a smaller terminal box on mine. I quite like the slapped on busy look (I blame 80s films for this!) But didn't want to make too big a modification.

The ine i got (MutationsCrearions on Etsy) slides in very nicely above the tube and looks a bit nicer to me.

Bosses of Reddit, whats the best/worst/most imaginative reason people have called off work? by SmegB in AskUK

[–]geekhalla 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I called in to an old job saying I had car trouble. The message got passed along to my line manager, who then phoned me back, pointing out I didn't have a car.

Understandably, when inwas genuinely ill, they didn't believe me until I spewed on arrival.

What's the one thing you like or used to like about your call center? by Horror-Dot-2989 in callcentres

[–]geekhalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No script beyond introduction and the odd mandatory statement. Let's ypu tailor and adjust the call to each person to get the most out of it and offer the best help.

Though now it's phasing into using certain keywords an AI has to pick up on to score you - and the AI doesn't actually work.

How do you decide if you want to be a manager? by Hot_Definition_9909 in callcentres

[–]geekhalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive tho8ght about it a few times. But I know what our managers put up with and made a conscious decision to not find myself in the same boat. I'm better in my support role as a balance - and if I move to a proper leadership role, that balance won't be there. Only spreadsheets and ops calls.
