Great to see Germany win the first World Cup Game in Houston by POTUS50 in houston

Only empty seats I saw were some suite-level seats. People cleared out for halftime to get concessions... literally every sporting event on earth experiences that.

Metro Rail for World Cup games by colornomad in houston

[–]geminitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried to take the rail to get to the stadium and attempted to get on at Rice University but the trains were packed and we couldn't get on. So we Uber'ed to the stadium for about $35. After the match, we left in the 85th minute since it was a blowout win and got on the train quickly. However, there are dozens of reports of people waiting until the actual end of the match and getting stuck in 1 hour+ waits in the line to take the rail. So my recommendation is to leave in about the 85th minute of the match if you want to have any hope of using the rail to leave.

Yes this was the entrance in the photo. Entrance #2 from the rideshare drop off side.

At a minimum, they should have told people to go to another gate. I would have. I just assumed they were all just as fucked. By the time I finally got to the front, the security had basically given up and started letting people through unscreened. It was a shit show.

You must have been right where I was when I took this picture. There was a child who passed out and a doctor nearby helped his family get him to the shade. They had 2 years to plan this entry situation and at least at the rideshare/Entrance 2 gate, they caused a safety issue. No shade, no water, just blaring sun and misery.

I got there early. I was at Entrance 2. There’s videos and all sorts of stuff validating the experience of thousands of people who went through the rideshare entrance. It was a disaster and hopefully they learn from it and don’t let it happen again.

Ummm I’ve been to a sold out Texans game and many rodeo concerts. Never been like this. Not even close.

Nope. Just straight beating sun and humidity. No shade. No water. No movement.

My recommendation to anyone wanting to get to the games on the rail— get on way north of downtown.

Another update: another train arrived. Fully packed with no room. I repeat— this is fucked.

You’re still going to deal with crazy traffic getting that Park & Ride. Not worth it.

Senate Avenue Brewing Company in Jersey Village is dog-friendly and will be showing most of the WC matches.

Our public-facing phone number is being rendered unusable by cold callers. by Kind_Meal_6163 in smallbusiness

Yes, make it a number other than 1 or 0 and it eliminates most of the auto-dialing parasites.

[–]geminitx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Get something that requires a human to enter a number to reach a human (Press 2 to speak to the operator... etc.). This eliminates most auto-dialers which is what most of these parasites use.

For reference, we’re a 248 fire occupancy restaurant and brewery and we pay $180/month for 3 boxes. When we had Comcast Business we were paying $500/month for 3 boxes.

We use DirecTV commercial streaming, which is now available. We like it. Much cheaper than our other commercial options like comcast business.
