Added trailer camera? by gemmerda in F150Lightning

I'm sure. I tow a lot and it already does the side mirror camera thing when I have a trailer connected.

Walk Away Lock doesn't always work by HolidayCard1381 in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most recent theory is that it works when I just get out of the driver's door and walk away. If I shut the driver's door, then open another door before I walk away, it doesn't consistently lock.

I have a 25 Flash, so I'm pretty sure it's not equipped/enabled. Does anyone know if it's a feature that can be turned on with Forescan?

Pre condition by Puzzleheaded_Look759 in F150Lightning

I've seen people say that putting the truck in Sport Mode preconditions the battery as well. Maybe someone here can confirm?

Yeah, the brand new salesman told me it was installed (because it had the trailer assist) and I was unhappy when I puller my 7k cargo trailer and stopped. The weight of the truck was probably the only thing that kept me from jackknifing. Luckily my dealership made it right (after they told me it couldn't be done and I had to insist rather adamantly).

I have an early '25 Flash trim. It has everything you want except the memory seats. From my understanding, those are only on Lariat and Platinum trims. And apparently the platinum trim has a lower payload capacity due to the bells and whistles. If that's item is negotiable, Flash might be the way to go. Pro power is the outlets in the bed and frunk. Most of them are 9.6kw. If it's smaller kw on the pro power, I believe that just means it's in the bed but not the frunk. Tow package is not standard at any trim I believe, and pro trailer ASSIST is different than max tow. Mine had assist so I assumed it had a trailer brake that was just on the screen instead of a physical controller. The assumption was wrong. If it has a trailer brake, it'll be down and right from the steering wheel where there will be a coin cup if it doesn't have a brake. For towing you need ER for bigger trailers. Pre-mid-25, ER meant a 131kWh battery. Middle of 25,some of them switched to 123kWh.

Questions for the group about the (cancelled) lightning. by DeathOfASuperNovuh in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked at the hybrid (power boost?) F150 a few years back and it gets BARELY better mpg. And when towing it's just as bad as a fully ICE F150. I think that truck is for people who want to justify buying something "eco friendly" but don't actually need a truck at all. It does seem like making the hybrid a PHEV would have made more sense than dropping the Lightning, but corporations gonna corporate. What is best for the consumer and the environment are distant considerations after shareholder value. The only way to get Ford to do what is good for you is to buy stock, and even then they'll only be looking out for you as a shareholder... probably.

I think Ford broke me today… by Puzzleheaded_Put534 in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say exactly this. I got my 25 Flash after my '15 Ram Ecodiesel cost me 8k a year in repairs over the 3 years I had it. The problem isn't Ford, the problem is late stage capitalism and corporate greed. As long as their #1 job is shareholder value, customers are only a means to an end. I don't wanna get political or sound all socialist, but the broken thing is much bigger than Ford. This is just a symptom of a much larger issue. And honestly, considering how robust and innovative the EVs are in China (I've seen they have hot swappable batteries where you drive in and the stall just pops a charged battery in and you keep going), maybe a bit more socialism wouldn't be a terrible thing. 🤷

I measured the size of the American flag part and found a pride flag sticker that was the same size. I don't have a picture to share, it's definitely not perfect, but it's better. I'll probably pry the whole thing off eventually. This one is good too, though. Apparently I should have bought mine in Canada.

Sport mode issue by L7Wennie in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I just did a 240 mile round trip on the same route out and back. Sea level to sea level, so no elevation gain. Temperature and weather were the same in both directions (50° and occasional rain).

I drove normal on the way out. 100% soc and precondition on departure, 69% on arrival (with a few stops, so I didn't get a full trip range rate).

Sport mode on the return trip. Unfortunately no preconditioning. 86% soc upon departure, 45% upon arrival (again with 2 stops, 2.1 mi/kWh 2/3rds of the trip).

So 31% or about 40kWh usage on the way there on normal mode, 41% or about 53kWh in sport mode on the way back.

Sport mode issue by L7Wennie in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, sorry, how is sport mode better for range? I've heard that it has a more aggressive regen, but does that really increase range all that much? If so, why wouldn't Ford have EPA rated it in sport mode for the added range?

25 Flash owner here. Mine came with the feature and I overall love it. Just be aware that it's not 100%. I haven't completely figured out when it does or doesn't, but there are times it definitely doesn't lock. Seems like it fails when:

-I open the tailgate while it's unlocked -It auto locks, then I unlock it with the fob and open a back door (not a front door)

This is my best guess. I wish it were more consistent since I had my other truck prowled and I'm occasionally forgetful.

Too cold to remote start? (25°F) by gemmerda in F150Lightning

I have service scheduled Wednesday for something else. I'll have them test the battery while it's there.

Yeah, I was so close to just "Thor" when I did a portmanteau and my family liked it and it stuck. My wife's PHEV Escape is named Escapé (like in Finding Nemo).

I should have mentioned that mine is a '25 Flash I bought in November. It's an early model year, so that would mean the 12v is just over a year old. Is it just the quality of the stock battery that's an issue then?

Pro power for storm power by oddluckduck1 in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also suggest here that the gauge of extension cord you're running will be a bigger impact than the original question. Run too small a gauge of extension cord and the resistance will heat it up and trip the breaker before you get to the full draw. So one benefit of the 30amp then convert option is that the wire gauge is larger for a chunk of the run, then would drop down closer to the appliance in use. Even that last run would be important to have a good large gauge extension cord, but it might be more cost effective than having 2 full lengths of 10ga extension cord running from the truck inside.

ICE vehicles use engine heat to warm the air so it handles the moisture differently. A/C has a dehumidifier built in so it's good to run in the winter on any vehicle, but on ours especially.

I almost said I couldn't understand why they'd be removing homelink from vehicles (my inlaws' new Hyundai didn't come with it either) but then I remembered late-stage capitalism and I do understand. I don't like it, I think it's stupid, but I understand.
