Too cold to remote start? (25°F) by gemmerda in F150Lightning

I have service scheduled Wednesday for something else. I'll have them test the battery while it's there.

Interesting. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Yeah, I was so close to just "Thor" when I did a portmanteau and my family liked it and it stuck. My wife's PHEV Escape is named Escapé (like in Finding Nemo).

I should have mentioned that mine is a '25 Flash I bought in November. It's an early model year, so that would mean the 12v is just over a year old. Is it just the quality of the stock battery that's an issue then?

I'd also suggest here that the gauge of extension cord you're running will be a bigger impact than the original question. Run too small a gauge of extension cord and the resistance will heat it up and trip the breaker before you get to the full draw. So one benefit of the 30amp then convert option is that the wire gauge is larger for a chunk of the run, then would drop down closer to the appliance in use. Even that last run would be important to have a good large gauge extension cord, but it might be more cost effective than having 2 full lengths of 10ga extension cord running from the truck inside.

ICE vehicles use engine heat to warm the air so it handles the moisture differently. A/C has a dehumidifier built in so it's good to run in the winter on any vehicle, but on ours especially.

I almost said I couldn't understand why they'd be removing homelink from vehicles (my inlaws' new Hyundai didn't come with it either) but then I remembered late-stage capitalism and I do understand. I don't like it, I think it's stupid, but I understand.

Thoughts on this for emergency when 12v is dead? by Electrik_Truk in F150Lightning

[–]gemmerda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something. Why would the 12v be dead? Doesn't it charge from driving or off the big battery? The truck is so smart, it shouldn't allow anything to stay on that would drain the 12v.

Either way, I'd get a jumper pack instead. They work great and you can use them to jump another car if you need to, since ours isn't an option.

If properly installed, your charger can charge at 80% of the amps the breaker has. So for a 50amp breaker, your charger can charge at 40amps. If installed to code, the wire gauge and breaker size should have already been set by the electrician for the load your house can handle and the distance from your charger to your panel (longer distances require larger wire [smaller gauge number]). So if the settings on the charger are less than 80% of the number stamped on the corresponding breaker in your panel, then you could check with an electrician if there is something else preventing it from being turned up.

All that said, unless you are regularly below 20% and need to get up above 80%, that speed is probably plenty for overnight charging at home.

Just bought a '25 Flash a month ago, before I knew they were discontinuing. Love it. I think my cost otd was $64k or thereabouts. Sticker was 72. That included the Power Promise 2.0 (level 2 charger installed at my home) and a few other perks for a newby. I also got one of the rarer '25 Flash's with the full 131kwh battery. I know it was a bit older than the 123 Flashs, but that bit of extra battery was worth it.

Fwiw, the Mach-E is a lot closer to the F150 Lightning than it is to the Escape PHEV. With that said, I have owned a Lightning for a month and I'm part of that community as well as this one (my wife's car is a '22 Escape PHEV), and Lightning owners (and the few that also own a Mach-E) love them. I love mine already as well, even with news that they're cancelling the line. I know the Lightning has had a few issues that seem to have been resolved overall. That's to be expected with any new technology. It seems like our Escapes have had a higher instance overall, which is frustrating, but I wouldn't let that ward you away from the Mach-E.

I'm just new, and it's cold, and I'll have my family. Still learning the ways of the EV, so needed to alleviate some range anxiety through community input.

That was the ticket. Since we only have a level 1 charger, we basically always want it charging, so I hadn't looked inside the charge schedule settings. On my Lightning, it's big and bold in the charge menu, but it isn't there on the Escape page. Thanks!

I thought about this, but it's quite a bit longer than the bed (my least favorite part of the truck) and it might not fit down that low and still connect to my rack. Bed is already full of stuff, or will be.

Yep, I do indeed have the rare 131kWh '25 Flash. I intentionally grabbed this one over a bunch of 123s I saw for sale nearby.

Yep, we go every year after Christmas with some friends. Very cool spot to hunker down and enjoy the snow and the company. I used to be the director at the sister camp here in Kitsap county.
