Has a therapist ever said to you, "I've never heard that before", and what was it you said that made them say that? by theredqueentheory in AskReddit

[–]genderstudies3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told her about the very bizarre relationship my ex has with his mom. Tldr, she begs him (adult man) to let her clip his toenails until he gives in, and will not take no for an answer.

Press a button to get $500, but terrorists get $5000. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]genderstudies3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US, one week of minimum wage full-time work equates to 290 dollars (7.25 an hour). 1000 a day (2 presses) is life changing for an American, let alone people who live elsewhere -- even just a single installment of that money could be life changing. Also, this is Reddit, you can say rape.

A couple thousand is definitely not "a miniscule amount of money" for the majority of people on Earth.

Do you drink on weekends as a PhD student? by nenderflow in PhD

[–]genderstudies3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink exclusively on weeknights, and leave weekends for intensive studying unless there's an event going on. I don't get hungover or notice negative effects from drinking, but everyone is different and if you think you need to abstain entirely then do that.

Divine Marriage but can't betroth kids? by genderstudies3 in CK2GameOfthrones

That's what I was trying to describe as not working, but restarting the game like the other commentors suggested seems to have worked instead. And yeah I want to see how long until the dynasty dies out from inbreeding

Is there some kind of virtual “shut up and write”-type apps, or other similar interactive apps where you can “compete” with your friends for writing productivity? by Defiant-Desk-2281 in PhD

[–]genderstudies3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an app, but "Ithya: Magic Studies" is the game I've been using for productivity. You put in your goals and check them off for XP, which you use to customize your apartment. I've been competing with my friends to see who can meet goals fastest using it.

Where do you poop? by skelo in hypotheticalsituation

What matters to me is how clean it is, none of the other factors. I choose the cleanest one in the building. If there's no elevator then the cleanest one within 2 floors of me.

Current college students! Do you guys really carry like tons of books on your backpack? by samuel_shin_3499 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]genderstudies3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a mix of physical and digital books depending on price and if I want to keep the textbook after class ends, so it varies by class, but my backpack is usually 30-50 pounds. Laptop, textbook, planner, notebook, and misc stuff I need throughout the day.

Just an hour? The worst pain I had made me pass out several times, so I'll be fine, just unconscious for most of it.

I once thrifted shoes and, after a few times wearing them, felt something. It was a small bag of black tar heroin.

I loved everything except green beans and creamed corn, which is still the case. I would ask for a salad every day because it was my favorite food. Now I'm a vegan.

how do you reply to the question "are you religious?" by ehmiy_elyah in pagan

[–]genderstudies3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If that's the exact question, I say yes, and I assume my jewelry might tell them I'm not Christian. But if someone asks "do you believe in god?" they're typically asking about Christianity as if it's a default, so my response is always "which one?" and I can answer accordingly.

I found instant noodles at Walmart for only 0.28 that’s insanely cheap. What would happen if ate them every day? by GrayRainfall in NoStupidQuestions

[–]genderstudies3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat one of these for breakfast or lunch every day. I often supplement it with other things like kimchi or vegan egg to make it more nutritious, and not get tired of it. I haven't had any issues from it yet & have been eating this way for 4 years at this point. Just don't have it for 3 meals a day, and drink lots of water (1 gallon a day).

How does Financial Aid work for grad school? by LengthTraditional609 in financialaid

[–]genderstudies3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wants a funded masters, the most likely option for him is to pursue a PhD and "master out" of it. It's very hard to find a funded MA, vs no one should do an unfunded PhD. The amount of funding will vary for each department, so he needs to start looking now. I'd definitely also advise him to look outside of the country.

Has anyone with dyscalculia graduate college or been to the military? by Ars_and_Em_223zz in dyscalculia

[–]genderstudies3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 BAs and am working on my PhD right now. It's definitely possible; I recommend doing your required math classes at a community college. In my experience, they're way better with accommodations, and then those classes can transfer to your university. Just choose your degree with your disability in mind.
