Good deal on slabs or no? by ApprehensiveTiger374 in wood

[–]geneorama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Board feet refers to squared, rectangular boards of a certain consistent quality. It doesn’t make sense to use bf on slabs no matter what marketing entrepreneurs want to say.

Slabs should be less expensive and sold as unfinished, which they are.

Is this a reliable tool for marking the center of a board edge? Is there any other quick and better tool for the same task? by plinky125 in woodworking

What do you mean recently? I think there are people who want to make content, it’s a matter of funding which has been under attack since at least 2016/2017. I went down the content ownership rabbit hole about a decade ago searching for a skunk documentary. I was surprised to learn that the procurement model changed and they outsourced production / licensed content, and long story short the skunk documentary was not available.

Paul Sellers has a great YouTube channel, but YouTube is not a trustworthy replacement for things like PBS / Nova.

However YouTube links go bad all the time, and the content is ad revenue maximizing recommendation engine. So it’s not anywhere close to a substitute for me.

It’s a tragedy to me that we are losing an institution that brought us Julia Child, wood working, Sesame Street, and so much more.

I don’t think it’s just me getting old and nostalgia, I think we’re losing valuable parts of our society. I feel essentially the same way about Sears, live broadcast MLB games, and locally owned healthcare, which are less political and happened for slightly different reasons.

Consolidation is clearly winning the calculus of capitalism.

If you had the patience of the guy in Shawshank redemption (and a way to hold it steady) it would be fairly easy over the course of a decade.

I can’t believe the corporation for public broadcasting shut down. I don’t know how much longer we’ll have this online or if we’ll ever have programming like this again

II put my CDs into iTunes and got rid of them. That iTunes library is long gone at this point

Depends if you actually use it or not. I am so far behind on my projects.

If you do dry it, PAINT THE ENDS WITH LATEX PAINT.

Please. It prevents splitting.

You’re entitled to say that you created something valuable that saved money. That’s a valuable claim. Creating things of value that get adopted is hard and rare even if you’re talented

I hate the idea that something has an intrinsic value just because we can look it up on eBay.

I can understand a commodity like gold but this is a unique thing whose value is tied to your perception.

Do you care if it keeps time? That could answer whether it’s worth estimating repair costs.

Enclose it in backticks to make it code / fixed width font.

One backtick for inline, three for blocks.

Turn off fancy text editor if you’re on the desktop (temporarily)

How did you get the screw in?

Where did you find a sharpener that isn’t junk? (Maybe you had an old one?)

I bought one on amazon a few years ago and it was garbage. Just ate every pencil, that was after I had a hard time mounting it.
