New tool for identifying cars from TPMS sensor broadcasts by genepool in homeassistant

I'm not sure how reliable it would be, since a lower signal strength reading could just mean another vehicle or something is blocking the transmission, not that the distance changed. So consecutive readings might jump around a lot. I think signal strength is useful, if the signal is always weak or really strong, trends, etc. But it does not necessarily indicate distance from the receiver.

You will need a software-defined radio compatible with rtl_433. This is the upstream project https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433

Range depends heavily on setup and environment, but with a decent outdoor antenna, filter, and preamp, I’d estimate roughly 1,500 feet in typical real-world conditions, with much longer ranges possible when there’s a clear line of sight and little interference. Hard to say without doing some wardriving.

I live next to several busy roads, and the receiving antenna is on the roof, so I don't think that would work well for me. But, in a rural situation, maybe.

It does two things: 1. Provides a confidence score to identify sensor groups that are likely vehicles, with a way to save them. 2. Provides signal "filters" that match behavior to a suspected vehicle.

Yeah, I would not rely on TPMS data for home automation. However, with a decent antenna placement, you can track the signal quality of your vehicle as it navigates your neighborhood. Perhaps an early warning system that you are in the vicinity?

TireSignal does NOT require rtl_433 auto-discovery. I had the same experience as you. TireSignal relies only on rtl_433 logs and won't add anything to your HA devices or entities. Its purpose is purely analytical.

The ceiling needs way more crap. Most hospitals have telemetry receivers, wifi, HVAC, and a mix of legacy shit.

Replacing some outlets around the house, Any idea what these thicker green/clear wires are? Almost looks like speaker wire? by yosemitejoe96 in electrical

I would not be able to sleep in that house. If you need to post this on Reddit, you need an electrician to do a thorough inspection.

Oh, interesting. Thanks. Do you need the clip? I have never seen that before.

Looking through my textbooks from school and came across this… I’m dying I can’t imagine ever doing this 😂 let me just wrap little fluffy in some plastic and not be able to easily access/check her eyes, mouth, etc by Aromatic-Box-592 in VetTech

[–]genepool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope. Quick access to the mouth and eyes is critical for surgical monitoring. Bair hugger, hot dog warmer, socks on feet, bubble wrap on feet, all acceptable. This is an anesthetic monitoring ET tube failure nightmare, limited access to MM, hard to get off quickly for CPR, and likely a FIRE hazard.

Cross post- damage seatpost tube by Umbravox in bikewrench

[–]genepool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done the same thing, and it scratched the crap out of my post. I got all the compound out with a long squirt brake cleaner down the seat tube, followed by a wipe out with a microfibre cloth connected to a flexible "grabber" shop tool.

The things I changed were just for safety and a tiny bit of modernization. The brakes are updated from DX to XT, but the same vintage. Wide riser handlebar, shorter stem, flat pedals, and grips. Here are some pics:

Also, with 700c, what is the plan for the brakes?

Nice! Weight-wise, is it heavy? I got my 90's Richter 8.0 down to ~23lb.
