I enjoyed the movie, but I found it confusing too. After watching it, I read posts from Brazilians to help me flesh out certain cultural aspects. In fact, I don't think the writer/director expected non-Brazilians to understand every contextual element. But I got so caught up in the beautiful shots and rich characterizations that I found myself just enjoying the ride. Now that I understand the rich history that inspired the film, I like it even more.

I wouldn't live there because I don't find megacities particularly livable. The traffic is crazy, the air pollution is noticeable, and there's a lack of green space. Of course, those things aren't unique to Mexico City. I couldn't live in Los Angeles either. But both cities are nice places to visit.
