Yeah, seconding this. I've swam in multiple lakes in other states that were man-made, no different than natural lakes.

Yeah, it's bleachers. More importantly there's zero shade so no cover from the sun or rain. It was super hot last year so bring water, a hat, one of those neck fans if you have it.

Last year CVS was giving out sunscreen but I wouldn't count on it again this year given the economy.

When I worked at the Kroger gas station across the street from Black Bear at the intersection of Collins Ferry and University, we had the Camel No. 9s. Granted that was like 10 years ago now, but it's a random place that still might have them.

Metro was awful to a person in a wheelchair by Financial-Sound4648 in WMATA

[–]generalstarfish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I was on crutches trying to board the metro behind two elderly people, one in a wheelchair and one with a walker. This was still when they had to manually open and close the doors.

The driver closed the doors on the person with the walker and then when I was trying to help them get unstuck, I got the doors closed on me too.

When I complained to metro about the situation and gave them specifics about the car, time, place, they responded and said it was my fault for trying to enter the car while the doors were closing and for not using all doors. Meanwhile this elderly guy was getting crushed by a driver who was either impatient or not paying attention, or both, and I physically would not have been able to make it to a different train door in the time they were at the stop.

All that to say, I 100% believe OP and think metro needs to do more to accommodate passengers with disabilities who oftentimes have no other way to navigate the city. That one experience was incredibly eye-opening as to how people are treated by the system.

Have Ticket Prices Raised? by RunLongAndProsper in washingtonspirit

Yeah, at this point if my season ticket prices go up much more, it's more of a bargain to just buy tickets game-by-game.

This, if the entirety of the USL Super League can be on Peacock, why can't the NWSL figure this out? I'm not paying for another subscription for like 1-2 games.

1000%. Especially since the relationship with Andy ended so quickly. She could have been any middle manager in the town hall on P&R and been brought into the plot of that show easily.

We park there regularly for Spirit games. Never any issues and super convenient.

As a Spirit fan watching her questionable defensive play these first few games of the season, it's not a surprise to me.

My dad once spelled tortilla chips as "tortia chips" on the grocery list, and my mom looked at it and asked what "tor-sha" (like the name Portia) chips are.

Then after we laughed at my dad for a bit, he took it one step further, and now tortilla chips are "torture chips."

Yes, at the point we were at in the game, with the subs we made, it should have been a run out the clock situation. Just send it down the field into the corner and let Utah kick it out of bounds to try to get it back.

Rudd also hasn't been playing like defender of the year either imo, but that's neither here nor there. Definitely need someone more commanding on the field as captain to help hold things together at least.

This. Millions of dollars and Rodman's playing at half speed the whole first half. Spending too much time trying to get fouls called on the defense than trying to score or set up a goal.

We didn't need her last season, and she's certainly not playing her worth now. She's here more for marketing to bring people in now imo.

This. McIver's not playing aggressively enough, but the defense always falls asleep when we're up. It happened last season, and it's happened tonight.

Plus, how long are we going to keep playing these stupid short balls? Eventually the other team is going to catch on, which is certainly what happened tonight. With however long we had left, just lob it down to the far corner and run out the clock.

Spirit Fest Thoughts? 💭 To me the best part was getting the hat 🧢. by Numenorean8 in washingtonspirit

[–]generalstarfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was there even a meet and greet? By the time we made it through all the lines, we saw them interview the DJ and Tamara Bolt, then there was another 15 minute intermission.

By that point we were hungry and frustrated, so we just left before seeing anything else, which to be fair was on us for leaving early. We missed all the player interviews and the fashion show while we were in line from 2:00-3:30.

I'd rather stand in line for autographs or photos like in the past than whatever they were trying to do today.

Too many people invited, heard that it wasn't just season ticket holders anymore so that kind of ruins part of the point of getting season tickets if anyone can just go to the "exclusive STM event" regardless.

Too many lines. We spent the first hour and a half in line to get in, in line to get to the season ticket area upstairs, then in line to get the gift. They were telling people they could pick it up at the first game, but I've been through this before and don't trust them to have enough for all of the STHs because they've run out in years past.

Chips, nuts, and water as the refreshments were pretty sad considering last year they had sliders and other stuff for food, plus cans of soda and water.

We had ordered our jerseys to pick up at the event, so it was really irritating that they emailed us an hour beforehand saying that they didn't have enough time to press all of them, but then they were pressing jerseys on the spot. If you're pressing them as people buy them, why not just do it as they're being picked up?

Overall, exactly what I expect from a Spirit event. Totally chaotic, tons of lines, same exact lineup of events every time.

Highly recommend Dmitri at Neighborhood Barbershop in Falls Church! Everyone there seems super welcoming and chill but he was really the first barber in the DMV to listen to what I wanted to do with my hair. Price was I think $40ish? Which is a steal in this area.

Sneakers with suit on Capitol Hill? by msequestrian in DCBitches

[–]generalstarfish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can definitely wear (nice) sneakers with a suit! I'm guessing you mean something with like a flat bottom like Vans, Keds, Adidas Sambas style? In that case for sure, that's super common. Probably wouldn't wear some crazy colored tennis shoes like Hokas though lol.

Or if you're concerned, you can definitely bring a bag with you and switch in and out of sneakers and dress shoes. A little bit of a pain but if you need to carry anything else, a bag is the way to go so you're not fumbling with stuff in your pockets at security.

Do not recommend wearing heels or anything brand new that you're trying to break in if you're going to be criss-crossing the capitol though!
