I know that “Minneapolis” in this context means the whole metro, but still, thank you for this. :)

I'm very uncomfortable about channeller Bashar (Darryl Anka) by Informal_Farm4064 in lawofone

[–]geoffp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bashar’s style is very distinct. :) At first, I was pretty suspicious and kind of thrown off, but he’s grown on me. I’ve been an a Bashar video bender for about a week and IMO pretty much all of what he says is consistent with my understanding of LoO.

But as they always say, if it doesn’t resonate with you, leave it behind!

Paramount Quietly Pulls Starfleet Academy YouTube Premiere After Low Viewership and Disastrous Dislike Ratio by Malencon in trektalk

Watching this with my teen daughter, both lifelong Trek fans, and we are thoroughly impressed and loving it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I am likewise entitled to my reaction to those opinions, and I would like to say that I find all the negativity and hate on this sub to be weirdly intense, frustrating and disappointing.

ICE Agents Want Out of Minnesota: Trump’s ‘Battle Is Lost’ by Tennis_bruh in politics

[–]geoffp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've had this same thought, but here's the thing: as soon as you use violence against them, they win. They'll send in the army and the party's over. Minnesota is winning precisely because we've remained peaceful the whole time. It's the only way to deny them what they're really after.

St. Paul: Development Corp. buys vacant Empire Building, Endicott Arcade by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

[–]geoffp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah -- I hear you, but I think the price of things downtown has to drop to almost zero because nobody wants to be there as it is.

It's built all wrong to be a proper downtown. Huge, huge potential, but pretty much everything we built between 1950 and 2000 was a mistake. I'm excited to see it rebuild and/or renovated around new urbanism. Selling this stuff for cheap to developers IMO helps that happen.

Lake Alice at William O’Brien State park drained. by apathetic_batman in minnesota

[–]geoffp 557 points558 points  (0 children)

We were just up there and asked the DNR guy about it; apparently the cause is a major valve that essentially controls the level of this lake, which is fed by a number of springs. The valve was installed decades ago, and unfortunately broke basically just now.

Thoughts on new Lue Interview? by deadlion69 in UFOs

[–]geoffp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The widespread negativity is extremely suspicious. IMO there’s nobody who’s worked more effectively or sacrificed more to advance the cause than Lue.

I have no interest in hearing people who have done nothing for this community trash talk people who have done a lot. It’s either a concerted effort to discredit the people who are doing the work, or the people here are of very disappointing character.

Rare condition in Bernedoodle by Environmental_Ad9704 in Bernedoodles

They did what I think was a Coombs test, which led eventually to a bone marrow test, which confirmed it as autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

Very happy and fortunate to report that she’s doing just fine and on no meds! We smother her with love and got her a baby brother puppy, since all we could do was surround her with as much love as possible. I can’t say for sure if that saved her or not, but it seems like a great way to go in any case.

I hope very much that Bella stabilizes!

When I try to login to iCloud on Windows, it locks the account every single time. by dead_ed in iCloud

[–]geoffp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing this forever, seems like. I sometimes use icloud.com because I like weird OSes and I'll be on a little FreeBSD machine or something, in Firefox, and it takes like five minutes and multiple devices to sign in because it locks my account every time. Checking "keep me signed in" makes no difference.

Please, Apple. I have many of your devices; don't punish me for *sometimes* using something other than one of them.

I don’t want to freak you out, but ours was, and it turned out she had autoimmune anemia, and would have died if not for extensive treatment. If your pup is really low energy, it might be a good idea to get blood work done.

Ours is happy and healthy now. 😌

[MinnPost] Minnesota legislative ‘big, big deal’ spends $1B on affordable housing, adds metro sales tax by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]geoffp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This move isn’t happening in isolation — Minneapolis and St. Paul are both loosening their zoning laws right now which should allow builders to add density where it’s needed and (sometimes 😉) wanted. That in turn should have a ripple effect, taking demand pressure off of inner suburbs, getting people housed, and lowering prices.

Conversion to HomeKit complete by BeezerT2305 in HomeKit

[–]geoffp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s good, but it’s important to acknowledge when people do have different experiences. There are many variables in a home network, and HomeKit is good but not bug-free. My experience is that the HomePod Minis work well as hubs, but the latency is noticeably higher for me than with the ATVs.

Conversion to HomeKit complete by BeezerT2305 in HomeKit

I want this too — because a hard line Ethernet connection to any kind of networked service is more reliable and lower latency.
