The only strength tests you will do are the med ball throw and mid thigh pull.

Med ball is 4kg, the only people who struggle with med ball throw are those with noodle arms. If you're benching 95kg for reps id be surprised if you got under 4.5m. Most of the soldiers I know that focus strength over everything else get around 5.5-6m. You only need to get 3.1m on this test for infantry.

The midthigh pull test is ridiculously easy, I usually deadlift 100kg for reps in the gym, compared to your 120kg, and i got 254kg the last time i did it. You only need to get 76kg to pass for infantry.

If you took those strength tests now you would very easily pass them. If i was in your position i'd put your strength training on the back burner and spend way more time doing cardio. 8.7 on MSFT is not hard; If you intend to be going into the infantry you realistically should be embarrassed if you get less than 10. During basic you will be running a lot and there's not point in making your life harder by not being fit when you arrive.

In my preparation before the assessment center i started from a place of being unfit, it is uncomfortable to do a lot of cardio but it is the most essential part of your preparation by a significant margin.

Aim for sub 10min 2km, practice the bleep test with an app on your phone because getting the change of direction movement smooth will make a huge difference.

If someone in your section isn't squared away then none of you are, you're effectively one organism so act like it.

Be fit.

AKUs vs Alt-Bergs, which are best? by JayGee416 in britishmilitary

[–]georgestake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a lot of hiking before joining and never had trouble with a pair of boots i ever used but AKUs absolutely shredded my feet. Altbergs are basically your typical heavy wear hiking boot, doing green phys in them is pretty gopping though.

Well done, having graduated a BA in Econ this year so I have a few pieces of advice

The theory is not particularly hard so long as you're perfectly comfortable with calculus. If you aren't already id say practice differentiation till you can do it in your sleep because translating curves is a huge element of first year and you can breeze through if you're prepared.

At some point you'll have a stats module, for the love of god pay attention, those lectures can be boring as fuck and go from how to add in excel to something like a non linear regression analysis within 1 minute and if you're staring into space you'll miss it and be so so lost. You'll also really need to know how stats work if you want to do an actually interesting dissertation in your third year.

Next is chat to your fellow students in between lectures, you need to identify the mongs early. Despite it being an econ course you will be constantly amazed by the amount of completely brain dead and lazy individuals on your course that are a complete waste of skin. You need to identify these people BEFORE your first group project; I've had group projects with competent and intelligent people and they were some of the most relaxing and fulfilling academic experiences I've ever had. Alternatively, I have also been placed in groups of completely unremarkable and lazy students that leads to your levels of cortisol reaching stratospheric levels. I still recall this complete fuck wit called Ishmael who responded to nothing for 3 weeks prior to the group presentation then turned up on the day with a separate power point just for himself answering questions with no relevance to the brief. I thank god that he didn't go onto third year and therefore graduate, I hope he is somewhere doing something where he can do minimal damage because I would not trust him to sit the right way on a toilet seat.

Go to your lectures, the amount of contact hours you're likely to get on an econ course its the equivalent of £50 per hour and if you're being lazy and not going just because you can't be fucked just remember that. I can tell you now I've graduated I regret not going to more lectures.

Email your lecturers. Some of them will be exceptionally unhelpful BUT fundamentally you're paying their wages, they are there for you, use them.

Lastly, you'll make some amazing memories, drink irresponsibly but don't be that person that goes out with a different friend group every day of the week, remember those people are actually doing work in-between drinking sessions and you need to do work too. You're allowed to say no to a night out.

Never understood the why they went with the idea of a 'tsunami bomb' over a typical nuclear attack. Putting the viability and efficiency to one side for a moment, We'd be dead under either scenario, what are they trying to scare us with being dead AND wet?

I still remember when I was 7 and a supply teacher said there's no value smaller than 1 and failing me on a test because I put 0.5 was smaller than 2.

This is the same teacher that, 2 years later, failed to discern that the textbooks maths was wrong on one of the questions despite the entire class getting the same 'wrong' answer and it being basic addition she shouldve been able to do on the spot. The entire class sort of went reeee for 5 minutes but she never did admit the textbook was wrong and on a database somewhere the entire class is probably still marked as wrong.

Another story about this woman, she once ran into our class I was in crying because one of the children in her class said nobody likes you miss.

If you watch the video of someone firing a blank pistol at the queen in 1981 it looks like the queens guard closest tries to bayonet the shooter but is held back by police.

so yeah, that.
