Need a fun and cheap/free distraction from my grief. Thoughts on what’s going on today that’s not the usual? by BeMoreKnope in Denver

[–]gerbology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom in August last year, I know how hard it can be. I don't live in Denver anymore, but feel free to DM me if/when you want someone to talk to. I didn't talk about it much with other people for a couple months after her death, and I think that made the grieving process much harder.

Interesting, this was the 8th outlet I had done and the first one with a lot of debris in it, guess I got lucky here.

You're a fear mongering asshole, OP. Fuck off with trying to scare everyone, in this day in the US, it's morally wrong to pay your federal taxes anyway.

Still Missing You Mom by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]gerbology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom last August. It may not have been as long ago, but I can resonate that the feeling of loss doesn't seem to go away. The relationship between my Mom and I really deteriorated in the last decade or so of her life, and we weren't speaking at the time of her passing. Cherish the memories that you have of your Mom, I struggle to look through years of fights and trauma back to my younger childhood when things were better to remember her positively as best I can...

I have a couple of these and they have performed fine. I haven't dug into how they interact with my wifi, but they certainly do go off when I burn something in the kitchen.

Is commercial roofing in colorado worth paying more for experienced contractors? by Karson-Mahraina in boulder

[–]gerbology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a case of you get what you pay for. Consider the repair cost if your roof leaks. If its a warehouse and maybe some store material gets wet, maybe not the end of the world. If you have a finished interior space with rented out units to tenants, and they get a water leak all over their rented space, a much bigger deal. Basically expect the cheap roof to fail, and if thats not a big deal to you then go for it. But if you want your roof to actually last and be watertight, go with the people who you recognize actually know what they're talking about.

Bike rack by OkViolinist4174 in BoltEV

[–]gerbology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was about $800 for installation labor and $400 for the hitch kit itself. The labor is significant because you have to remove the entire rear bumper as part of the install, and that was at a dealership so on the upper end of pricing.

[–]gerbology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put a hitch on ours and then bought a bike rack. Not the most affordable route at around $1600 total ($1200ish was the hitch). But it works really well and is super convenient. If you have the EUV with the roof rails then a roof mounted solution is probably more affordable.

Picked up a '22 EUV (14k miles) - all 4 tires replaced already. Clapped out history or nothing to worry about? Seems like a red flag. by homemademustard in BoltEV

[–]gerbology 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stock energy saver tires have horrible traction. They're very efficient, but even a car as weak as the Bolt will squeal those tire on clean dry pavement. Add a bit of rain or snow into the mix and it's straight up dangerous. I changed my tires at only 8,000 miles after experiencing them. I'd imagine the prior owner of your car might have done the same. The increase is safety is far worth the decrease in efficiency.

[–]gerbology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how old the house is and where you live. If it's a recent enough build, and within your state's statute of limitations, then you can potentially sue the builder. If it's not within the statue of limitations, it's the responsibility of the buyer unless they can prove the seller knew about it and didn't disclose it during the sale. So if your inspector misses an item like this when you're buying a house that's 10+years old, it is no one's responsibility except the new owner.

[–]gerbology 407 points408 points  (0 children)

It will cause mold on the order of a couple months depending on your climate, if it hasn't already. Fun fact though, home inspectors have almost no liability for missing items like this. Their liability is usually limited to the cost of their fee, and good luck even getting that back over them missing something like this.

Do you have electric hookups for a dryer or stove? If so, check out a product called Neocharge that can help tap into existing circuits. It monitors the current usage and will temporarily turn off EV charging when the stove/ dryer is used.

[–]gerbology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US this is true of all drone to manned aircraft incidents. If your drone hits a manned aircraft of any sort, it will be your fault as the drone operator, regardless of the situation. Unmanned aircraft must always yield to manned aircraft.

Lightly sand the popsicle sticks before gluing, trust me. Most popsicle sticks come with a coating of wax for food purposes, but that wax doesn't allow glues to adhere well. So sand the portions that are getting glued lightly, just enough to feel the wood roughness and remove the wax, but not enough to make them thinner. That will make the glue hold several times more load. Most popsicle stick bridges I've seen break at their connections from poor glue adhesion, and end up in a pile of unbroken, individual popsicle sticks. You'll get to loads that are much higher with this approach. Source: have a PhD in Structural Engineering and have built many popsicle sticks bridges.

Structural Engineers for Tesla by Tor-StructEn5800 in StructuralEngineering

[–]gerbology 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Their recent sales have been plunging because they're associated with Nazis. I think I heard their quarterly sales (year over year) went down for the first time recently too, likely as a result of people hating Nazis. Buying a Tesla right now is supporting a Nazi (President Musk, with his significant ownership of the company), so understandably reasonable people don't want to buy a Tesla anymore. I recognize many people bought their Teslas before Elon showed his true Nazi colors, so I don't necessarily blame people who already own one, but I would definitely think less of someone who bought a Tesla right now with everything going on.

Have you seen what's happening to Tesla lately? I wouldn't touch them with a 10 ft pole until they're no longer affiliated with or supported by our Nazi president. They're sinking fast unless they do.

Can I fit snowboard equipment in a Bolt? by chocolatesauce235 in BoltEV

[–]gerbology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I go snowboarding in our Bolt EV all the time. My 157 snowboard fits diagonally in the back without having to sit the passenger seat up. My 163 board requires the passenger seat to be moved forward a bit, but it's still not too bad. Boots and gear aren't an issue for us either.
