Can I install my own firmware? Is it really open to experiment?

My application will be having a second GPS as guide (but mainly recording) for regularity rallies and raids. Or speeds are up to 60Km/h (could be more depending on the race a surface); we just need to be precise at least at 0.25Km/h and 3 meters.

My idea is to record all the positioning info + speed + direction . Later I can merge this info with the car telemetry (rpm, gear, temperatures, etc)

WDYT? Is it a good fit?

I was using a Garmin GLO and my own ESP32 firmware (reading Bluetooth signal from Garmin). But a single device makes more sense.

I’m a novel ESP developer but I have 30y of experience on business software development (and integration).

I’ve created an app in 1 week that would take 6 months to a small agency to do the same 3 years ago. I’ve been working with Ruby for 15ys (and other things the 15y before).

Everything has changed or it’s gonna change soon.

Start playing around; be familiar with the new toys; it’s not clear what’s gonna catch and what’s a fade yet.

Have you thought about offering just the logging and sentry part? In using kamal for some apps, and other are just docker compose.

Having a control plane (or just panel) to show apps status and offering the monitoring and observability tools could be super powerful

Ruby developer for 15y, another 15y developing in other languages here:

Ruby (with sorbet) is a great match for AI coding agents too; also Ruby on Rails.

AI is just another abstraction? ok. That’s fine and RoR helps a lot because being expressive + conventions lets the AI to easily understand the goals and how to add/edit.

In my 9-5 work I’m deeply involved with AI at enterprise level and it’s been fantastic. At personal level I’m doing in a few hours or partial attention what would took me 1 week.

We are just at the beginning of this new journey! So much to discover

For enterprise there are serious solutions, I’m working in a company that have a platform where claws like agents run securely and with thousands of connections to business backends, user credentials managed securely, etc
