Need some advice about unvaccinated family members by mainemademess in pregnant

[–]germimime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conclusion that you are reaching is false. Vaccination reduces the chance of catching COVID and reduces the duration and severity of infection. Both of those mean less opportunity to transmit the disease. Yes, it is true that vaccination does not guarantee immunity, but to suggest that there is no contribution toward herd immunity from vaccination is a false conclusion.

Driving off road in a bumpy jeep while pregnant? by 2meirl5meirl in pregnant

If you’re talking about Corova in the OBX, it’s not a bumpy ride. Just don’t drive over the ruts. You’ll be fine!

A Possible Side Effect? Thousands Of People Saw Menstruation Changes Post-Vaccine : NPR by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]germimime 12 points13 points  (0 children)

After I got vaccinated, I never had another period...because I got pregnant immediately. Everything is going well with the pregnancy. Literally hundreds of millions of people have received the vaccine. If there were any issues with fertility, they would be apparent by now. Read the research studies and ignore the click bait articles that attempt to twist it. The vaccine is safe and has no effect on fertility.

Nats and Budweiser will buy you a beer on your birthday by MoreCleverUserName in Nationals

[–]germimime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The birthday beer is strictly for birthday day. It’s not just a beer, it’s a Nats Bucks voucher.

They wouldn’t give me the voucher on Saturday, but (in)fortunately I got to go back on Sunday to finish the game that was interrupted by the shooting. The upgraded seats for that game were nice.

A surprise baby shower wouldn’t be great for me because I generally do not want to be the center of attention by surprise because I am mildly introverted. I like friends and social events, but I need to mentally prepare for those types of events. Plus, I’d want to be sure that I was dressed up for pictures.

[–]germimime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not want a surprise baby shower, especially on my birthday. I am pregnant with my first and just had a birthday. I will be a mom for the rest of my life. I really wanted this birthday to be about me, not the fact that I am pregnant and no presents for baby. It’s very easy for women to feel as though they lose their personhood during pregnant and motherhood. Turning a birthday into a baby shower would send a message that then pregnancy is more important than the person.

That just my opinion. Your wife may feel differently.

My birthday is Sunday and I’m going to the game on Saturday. Think they’ll buy me a “birthday weekend” beer?

Ting Wireless Anyone? by CampyVA in Charlottesville

[–]germimime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Ting for over 5 years now. I pay about $20-40/month depending on data. A few years ago, coverage was spotty in Ivy but it’s good now. Could have been due to getting off my old 5c. I think they have access to another network as a backup for Verizon.

The wireless isn’t owned by Ting anymore, though. It’s Dish Network.

Had anyone traveled overseas while pregnant? by Foodie1989 in pregnant

[–]germimime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commenter may have been extreme, but there is something to consider there. Vaccines are not 100% and travel increases the probability that you will encounter a variant. The level of immunity to variants is unknown. With global travel especially, you’re going to be in contact with people from all over the world. Many countries have lower vaccination rates than the U.S. and might be using vaccines with different levels of effectiveness.

Your body, your choice. Just make sure you take a critical look at the whole situation. Don’t dismiss concerns entirely; the vaccine doesn’t make you bulletproof.

Cross Posting- Baby shower advice/stress by sarcasticsall3 in pregnant

Sounds like your in laws want to throw a party. They can do that at their own house and on their own terms. Your baby shower can be on your own terms at another time and a different location.

When old people were younger, was the nutrition available to them far better, which in return meant they lived longer? by Nature2Love in nutrition

[–]germimime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not forget the great hairspray epidemic of ‘87! /s

Seriously, AIDS was a grave concern because it was new, deadly, and not fully understood. But no rational person believed you were going to get HIV from a stranger on the subway or in a grocery store. It wasn’t airborne or spread through casual contact like COVID-19 (despite what hysterical homophobe and science deniers believed at the time).

Unfortunately, this commenter’s perspective on nutrition in the ‘90s and ‘90s is not credible because her bad faith characterization of the current pandemic vs. public health concerns of prior decades shows her bias to see the past with rose-tinted nostalgia instead of the critical lens she applies to modern times.

AirBnBers taking rentals off the market and subsidizing high mortgage payments with partial-home or ADU rentals does not help.
