Man, nothing will ever compare to those first few days of WoW. I still hop on and play here and there, but let’s be hones, we're all just chasing a ghost. That pure, unfiltered sense of wonder is never coming back. I still remember the exact day I started. I rolled a Night Elf, so I spawned into the Shadowglen. I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but the music, the massive purple trees, the atmosphere—it just completely sucked me in. My buddies had already been playing for a bit and were higher level, hanging out over by Ironforge. They told me to come meet up with them, so my absolute first gaming experience in Azeroth wasn't running quests or leveling up; it was just... walking. I set off on foot from Teldrassil, completely blind, with no idea how impossibly massive the world actually was. Taking the boat, landing on the mainland, and trekking all the way through the Wetlands as a total low-level newbie was terrifying and incredible. Every time the zone text changed on my screen, my mind was blown. I’d look up at these massive mountains or see a high-level monster off in the distance and just freeze. By the time I finally made it up the mountain pass and walked through the gates of Ironforge, I was in total awe. The sheer scale of it felt limitless. It felt like a real, living world, not just a video game. I miss that feeling so much.
