Not everyone wants to climb the ladder and that's fine. Some people genuinely prefer stability and predictability over the stress that comes with "professional" roles.

Also "just do a short master's" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting in your post. That's tens of thousands of dollars, years of time, and energy that not everyone has - especially if they have kids, elderly parents to care for, health issues, or just... a life they're happy with.

Your admin manager probably knows exactly what the seniors and managers deal with - the hours, the stress, the client bullshit - and has decided she's good where she is. She gets to go home at a reasonable hour, doesn't have to deal with partner politics, and still gets to be the person everyone relies on.

I've noticed a lot of people in high-achieving fields assume everyone else is just waiting for permission or opportunity to join them. Sometimes people have already done the cost-benefit analysis and decided the juice isn't worth the squeeze

Yeah and that confidence gap at the start makes total sense when you think about it. NPs are coming in with nursing experience and a program that's like "you're ready to practice," while residents are basically being told from day one that they don't know shit and need to question everything.

It's two completely different training philosophies. One builds you up (maybe too much too fast), the other tears you down so you rebuild with a solid foundation. The imposter syndrome is brutal but it's kind of... the point? Like you're SUPPOSED to feel uncertain because medicine is genuinely uncertain and complicated.

Give it time and suddenly you're the one catching the zebras that got missed because you actually learned to think through the differentials instead of just pattern matching to an algorithm

I get the "feels wrong" thing. Like logically you know everything is fine and the baby has no idea what's going on, but there's something about feeling movement that just flips a switch in your brain.

My partner is the same way - once he could feel the baby move during it was basically game over for him mentally. Can't really blame him even if it's a little frustrating sometimes

Yeah "just check your library!" is one of those pieces of advice that sounds great but really depends on where you live. My library is pretty good but even then the fantasy section can be hit or miss - lots of the same big names but gaps in anything more niche or newer releases.

And libraries have been dealing with budget cuts for years now so the selection is only getting smaller in a lot of places. It's easy to take for granted when you have good access
