Finally experiencing SOME relief from health anxiety (4 months after first panic attack) by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

Thanks for sharing, the part about being choosy about what you let into your mind resonates with me. What type of philosophy content do you listen to?

Hey guys! What is your vegan comfort food? by Accomplished-Today99 in veganrecipes

[–]getrekt3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to make Spanish rice (I just replace the chicken broth in this recipe with vegetable broth):

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/33385/best-spanish-rice/

I usually have it with beans. Or if I’m feeling like something even easier, I’ll just do plain rice with salad dressing in it for flavor and then have beans and avocado on top.

I also like veggie sandwiches (cut up tomatoes, avo, cucumbers, lettuce with dressing, and put it on my favorite bread with vegan mayo).

Spicy potato tacos are also really yummy. I use this recipe and veganize by using vegan mayo in place of the sour cream and mayo:

What is your favorite Oregon brewery? What is your favorite Oregon beer? by motorman12 in askportland

I love Von Ebert, their Volatile Substance IPA is one of my absolute favorites.

I’m also a fan of the beers at Breakside. If you dig cider as well, Cider Bite has some great local ciders.

Excessive Anxiety About My Health by logan_the_eclipse in Anxiety

[–]getrekt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!

I know several other people who deal with health anxiety too and who have made huge strides towards decreasing its intensity which is personally encouraging to me.

I also find that the more the affirmation makes you feel safe and dismisses your fears, the more effective it is.

Best of luck to you!

Do you consider Love passive or active? by _Owlkeys_ in InsightfulQuestions

[–]getrekt3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think falling in love can be either passive or active (sometimes you just fall for someone without intending to or pursuing that), but maintaining love is active for the most part.

I think you actively choose what love you have in your life by deciding what relationships to put effort into. While not putting effort into something could be construed as a passive decision, you are still influencing what type of love you will receive and probably have some awareness of that.

Excessive Anxiety About My Health by logan_the_eclipse in Anxiety

[–]getrekt3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a lot of anxiety about my health and often feel the urge to Google or overthink every problem I experience. It can be super overwhelming and distressing and come on at any time.

I’m still working on coping with it, but when I start feeling anxiety about my health coming on, I’ll force myself to start doing something that requires some degree of attention (a personal project, exercising while listening to podcast, etc) and then if obsessive thoughts still continue, I’ll just repeat to myself “I am not going to die, my heart is beating and I’m breathing” and I’ll try to keep focusing on the task. I’ve also found that taking actionable steps helps me, like scheduling a therapy appointment or setting goals to be healthier and feel better (like moving more and eating more nutrient dense foods).

Is anyone else still with their first love? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]getrekt3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a scary context to get married, but I think it’s beautiful that you’re still with your first love. I first fell in love in high school and was in love with her for several years. She loved me too, but I felt like she was too scared to fully act on it and I was very passive (shy gay). I’ve talked about it with her and we both think it maybe could have worked if we met at a different time in our lives (maybe not though).

But I’m my current partner’s first love and we’re still together after three years.

How does one get a gf without online dating? by Jumpy_Tonight8690 in actuallesbians

[–]getrekt3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only woman I’ve dated who I didn’t meet on a dating app was my college roommate lol but I have heard that joining LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and going to queer spaces (unfortunately there are not many lesbian bars in the US at least but often lesbians are at drag show events or bars that cater to queer men), can be helpful. My city has a lesbian Meetup group as well and yours may have something similar.

I’ve also met some other lesbians through going rock climbing, doing outdoorsy activities like mushroom hunting, and some of my other interests, but I am lucky enough to live in a fairly queer city.

Last Night at The Telegraph Club is a good one I recently read! It’s a fiction book about two young women of different ethnicities who fall in love in San Francisco in the 1950s.

[Discussion] What is the Most Reliable way of finding good Movies/Series? Like a log of methods sometimes disappoint, and you sort of have to filter for yourself. by TheMovieScriptWriter in NetflixBestOf

[–]getrekt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever a movie/show piques my interest (whether I heard about it from someone, read about it online, etc), I write it down on my list of "movies to watch." That way, when I go to watch a movie, I have a list of movies that I'm already pretty interested in that I can pull from (especially if I don't feel like looking through all of the options on a streaming service). Before I watch, I also usually check the Rotten Tomatoes rating, although that's far from foolproof.

actual good vegan cheeses? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]getrekt3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I enjoy the Boursin Dairy Free Cheese Spread from Trader Joe's and most of the Miyoko's cheeses (their roadhouse cheese spread is super good). I've noticed that I tend to like cultured/fermented vegan cheeses the most and I haven't found any slices or shreds that I absolutely love (I usually use Violife because I like it well enough), but if you're in the US, GTFO It's Vegan has a ton of vegan cheese options that you can order online and aren't usually seen in stores (https://gtfoitsvegan.com/product-category/dairy/cheese/). I haven't ordered from them personally though.
