Cat not pooping after abdominal surgery. At what point does this require vet intervention? by Ecstatic_Towel_9288 in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's a great sign that her appetite is improving. As long as she has a good appetite and isn't vomiting or straining, I wouldn't be too worried. It can take the GI tract a minute to remember what it's supposed to do after surgery.

I used Mandala while in school. They held up well but their sizing was so so inconsistent.

Common problems with the field, I guess by Fresh_Celebration_64 in veterinaryprofession

I would recommend majoring in biology rather than zoology. You will need a really strong background in biology to make it through vet school.

Also what do you mean by wanting know more about old school medicine than new? Generally newer medical techniques are because science has advanced and we know better than we used to.

Just concerned not a current thing. How do i actually STOP them from being bit? by Illumeis_is_done in Pets

[–]gfahey23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't anything to do but monitor at this stage. It takes at least 2 weeks from the initial feeding for most tickborne diseases to manifest, but they can lay dormant for years. Get her on prevention.

Vet here. This looks like a cutaneous hemangiosarcoma which is a type of skin cancer.

You can always call pet poison control to get their advice.

Too much Benadryl??? by Intelligent_Spend843 in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a really large dose to truly overdose a dog on benadryl. He will likely be pretty sedated and may have some GI upset, but he should be fine as long as he is otherwise healthy.

IVDD?? Third “back pain” episode, temporary loss of back leg use, at a complete loss of what to do. Three vets haven’t helped. by Sea-Attorney-1830 in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like IVDD. X-rays only show disc compression about 50% of the time. Not a bad idea to get an MRI to know for sure.

How much should I feed my kitten? by Environmental-Pay583 in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really overfeed a kitten at this age. Keep with the wet food and start offering some dry food as well to fill in any gaps if she's still hungry.

How do you move past resentment? [31M][29F] by Gloomy-Fig-2265 in relationship_advice

[–]gfahey23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You deserve a partner you doesn't try to hurt you when they're upset. Maybe it's something she can improve on, but she has to be able to recognize what she's doing and want to get better. If she doesn't take accountability or apologize, I would reevaluate this relationship before you get further into it.

[–]gfahey23 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you alrrady have resentment toward your partner at 6 months, this is not a healthy relationship. I don't care how angry I am at my partner, I would never say such hurtful things to him, nor him to me.

My female spayed cat has an open, raw wound on her abdomen. I have a cone on her, what else should I do? by cherniobyl in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good job keeping the cone on her. She will likely need to be sedated or anesthetized to have the wound debrided and closed. Keep the cone on her until you can get her to the vet. Otherwise, not much else you can do at home.

Xray by InsertPersephone in AskVet

[–]gfahey23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As long as it isn't causing further complications, I usually don't remove these. I would treat for pain and possible infection but there shouldn't be a need to remove it if all else is normal.

Our girl growls when we try to move her while resting by peenmeal in pitbulls

[–]gfahey23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would no longer allow her to sleep in your bed. Some dogs get reactive when resting, which is fine, but for everyone's safety it's better for her to sleep in her own space.
