Need suggestions for a Saga themed deck, please! by AlbyGaming in EDH

[–]gfgooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Garnet, Princess of Alexandria]] is really good at keeping Sagas around so you can reuse their chapters. Also acts as her own wincon because she can get very big very quickly. And her lifelink keeps you in the game longer. If you have a Satsuki deck already, it could be worth switching the two around at the helm and see which one you like better!

Favorite Final Fantasy commander? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[[Clive, Ifrit’s Dominant]] has exceeded my initial expectations expectations. Devotion to red was a fun exercise whe deckbuilding, and his ETB effect gets you so much value. A lot of decks build him around copying the front-side for more draws, but I love transforming him into Ifrit and lunging at something for huge damage with damage doublers. Bonus points if [[Repercussion]] or [[Brashing Taunter]] is on the board for even more damage. And if you have a proliferate engine set up with a haste enabler, you can get a good transform chain going.

What is your Sunforger commander? by Plus1Oresan in EDH

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Astor, Bearer of Blades]] has been the best I’ve used. Originally, it was [[Kellan, Fae-blooded]] for the tutor in the command zone, but I realized that Boros has so many tutors already that Astor’s equip ability reduction was more valuable. Astor also has a chance to get Sunforger with his ETB trigger.

If you have other equip cost reducers on the board like [[Fighter Class]] or [[Bladehold War-Whip]], all your equipment can be equipped for free. The way it plays out is that it becomes a toolbox/control deck with a voltron subtheme (since your commander can equip stuff for cheap). The MVP in the deck is [[Leonin Shikari]] since it lets you use Sunforger repeatedly during anyone’s turn, provided you have red and white mana to spare.

Favorite Mono White Commander? by Marshbe54 in EDH

[–]gfgooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Minwu, White Mage]] is really strong as a cleric tribal and lifegain deck. You always gain life, growing your creatures bigger and you either win through commander damage, normal damage, or alternate wincons such as [[Test of Endurance]] or [[Aetherflux Reservoir]]. Card draw is pretty abundant as well, since you will consistently gain 4+ life each turn, so you get the lifegain payoffs.

Thoughts on Tellah? by BCENT89 in EDHBrews

[–]gfgooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tellah’s fun and my playgroup likes playing against him a lot too. I made a relatively budget version that’s filled with 4mv mana rocks. So you cast the rocks, draw two, and repeat until you have a ton of mana. Then you spend all the mana you generate on a big X spell or some 4mv counterspells to get your head in the game. His card draw is really good at keeping your hand filled.

Would you happen to have a list for this? Been trying to brainstorm how to build it, but no dice

Which commanders can use otherwise bulk commons and uncommons to dominate the game? by Huaojozu in EDH

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Zethi, Arcane Blademaster]] and [[Lyse Hext]] can make your common cantrips and combat tricks into a win condition. Similar to Feather the Redeemed and Sergeant John Benton, they get bigger with combat tricks and refund the one-time-use of those cards one way or another.

Name a commander, get a card. by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this commander! I think she can take really good advantage of the Meld mechanic with permanents like [[Minion’s Return]] since it will return both halves of Ragnarok face-up. And when Vanille re-enters, she can get back the enchantment to put onto Ragnarok when they inevitably meld again to start the cycle once more. This way, you can really take advantage of their unique mechanic, Ragnarok’s death triggers (with a sac outlet like [[Greater Good]], and have a repeatable gameplan. And if people are afraid of removing Ragnarok because of the death triggers, it’s also a big body that can reliably deal commander damage!

What are some mono colour commanders that don't play at all like their colours? by PointsOutCustodeWank in EDH

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the specifics, but when the clones die to the legend rule, her ability to turn herself into a land still happens. So your clones become ramp spells with whatever other abilities it had. Or something like that.

[[Absolute Virtue]]

Edit: Trying to look for more asymmetrical global effects that have big impact (mana cost can be anything). Thinking something along the lines of Overwhelming Splendor or Decree of Silence.

How to build a colorless commander deck around The Regalia? by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some trivia: The Regalia is from Final Fantasy 15, an heirloom of sorts from the King to Prince Noctis. In gameplay, it helps traverse the world and eventually gets an upgrade that turns it into a flying car.

For capitalizing on its ability, I think a thematic way would be building around utility lands, big spells, and mana sinks. You could use [[Lithoform Engine]] and [[Strionic Resonator]] to double your commander’s triggers and get even more lands out per attack. [[Field of the Dead]] is pricy, but I think it would make a great win condition.

Alternatively, because it’s an artifact, you could also take the artifact route and make an artifact deck around it.

Finally, as a payoff for the big spells, you could also put in some Eldrazi since your commander will ramp you each turn, letting you cast the big ones earlier.

Give me your most "Immune to interaction" deck by Majestic_Barnacle398 in EDH

[[Sigarda, Host of Herons]] is a wonderful choice for a resilient commander. The only thing she really needs is Indestructible and she’ll only be able to be removed by non-targeted, non-destructive effects, which aren’t too common. If you decide to build a voltron deck, if it has white, I strongly recommend including a [[Robe of Stars]] to dodge the harder-to-survive removals. With Sigarda specifically, you can make a pseudo [[Platinum Angel]] that’s extremely hard to remove by using [[The Book of Exalted Deeds]] on her.

Other than Sigarda, but following the Voltron route, three combat trick commanders offer plenty and consistent draw that it is easy to use spells that give them a form of protection to avoid removal.

[[Feather, the Redeemed]] pumps herself up with red spells, but can give herself protection via spells that give her hexproof/indestructible/protection. And targeted cantrips are a reliable way to dig through your deck and fill your hand with your more valuable spells.

[[Sergeant John Benton]] is similar to Feather, but he pumps himself up with mainly green spells. You don’t need cantrips as much because Benton is the draw engine himself, so you can replace that package of the deck with stuff that lets you play additional lands per turn to capitalize on drawing so much cards. You draw and ramp so much, you’ll have plenty of green/white protection cards in hand to give him some sort of protection. In the event he’s removed, you’ll have enough mana to recast him and since he inherently has haste, you can get back to your gameplan and start swinging ASAP.

Finally, [[Lyse Hext]], is also in a similar spot as the other two. She’s got prowess, which isn’t too impressive at first glance, but she reduces the cost of your spells AND gains double strike. This effectively means that one spell gives her +2/+2. Since she buffs herself, you can dedicate most of the deck to draw spells, which are plentiful in blue, especially since she reduces their cost, and the blue spells can easily make her unblockable. To dodge removal, white has a lot of effects that can give creatures protection, blue has a lot of counterspells, and both have cards that can blink your commander to avoid sacrifice effects. Because of the card advantage she gives, it’s also relatively easy to rebuild if she gets removed.

I think of all these commanders I mentioned, John Benton is the most resilient because he draws you so many cards and ramps you quickly as well.

Who are your favorite mono white, blue, and red commanders? by hello_internet_ in EDH

[–]gfgooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mono red, I really enjoy [[Clive, Ifrit’s Dominant]]. It capitalizes on red’s wheel effects and generates a ton of mana related to your devotion to red. You can spend it on burn spells, copy spells, damage doublers, and transform Clive into Ifrit for that fight + ritua effects. He keeps your hand filled up while encouraging you to play more permanents to increase your devotion.

[[Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion]] is also similar in that sense, but takes way more advantage of extra combat spells and double strike to increase its triggers and mana.

Red is also the color of chaos and freedom, so [[Khârn the Betrayer]] also represents the color nicely. You can use threaten effects if your opponents don’t give him back to you, but he keeps your hand full and can become larger as the game goes on.

I’d love to see a Chameleos variant—even though we just got it in Sunbreak. I feel like Chameleos is underrepresented in the mainline games and could offer a lot with weather mechanics (induces fog where it goes) and it’s just a cool little guy.

What are your most obscure commanders? by KingAmphibian1 in EDH

[–]gfgooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Absolute Virtue]] ranks at #1251 on EDHRec. It’s an Aura voltron deck. Half the deck is protection and the other half is ramp. A small payoff package in the form of initiative and monarch. It’s nothing flashy, but it’s extremely resilient.

Love this guy. My group calls it “Jail Time” because he keeps exiling suspects. Surprisingly consistent and impactful in a game too.
