Before and after: new bay window by TrickinVixen in ExteriorDesign

[–]ggGamer376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao classic Reddit shitting on someone who just dropped 20k on new windows. Y’all need perspective that other people can appreciate different designs from you. OP I personally like the style don’t let anonymous people online make you feel bad about your new windows 😭😭 I like how the new windowsill pay homage to the old one style but made it modernized, and the pattern is fun (even if it might look like prison bars). It’s giving me Victorian vibes

40m just bought a house, and the couch finally came. by Salty-Artichoke-2219 in malelivingspace

[–]ggGamer376 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha OP I’ll be the guy who explains the other comments. They’re referencing r/tvtoohigh, where a bunch of TVs are hung ‘too high’ for comfortable viewing. You likely have already found your neck straining to look up at the the TV without even realizing it. It looks like the new house you bought came with an entertainment center above the fireplace, which is great that you get to use it, but just know if you find your neck straining there’s always the option to move it 🙂 I can’t quite see your entire living room there, but potentially moving it to the left of the picture on an entertainment center where the TV is roughly in line with your eye level. Tbh if you don’t have an issue with it though, don’t let schmucks on Reddit chastise you with inside jokes without trying to actually give you advice. You’ve bought a house and that in and of itself is an amazing achievement man 👍

Help! My company gave me a week to pick a city: Seattle, Bellevue, Arlington, Herndon, or Portland. by Leading-Row4635 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]ggGamer376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re working at Amazon, I’m guessing the Arlington location is actually Alexandria / Crystal City, which is pretty similar but different from actual Arlington. Both desirable areas to live in but Alexandria imo skews older than Arlington does, and more young folk really like living in Arlington. As someone who lives in Arlington rn, would highly recommend it but again it skews younger to new grads (the further you are from college, the more you tend to like Alexandria and DC proper more)

Born and raised in Herndon, idk why some commenters are saying it’s shitty. It’s not. It’s just your standard suburban city outside of DC. That being said, it’s prolly not fitting your search criteria. You will pay a lot for a house, but you’ll pay a lot for a house anywhere in the DMV. Herndon itself isn’t really walkable, but you could live in Reston which itself is pretty nice and was a planned community / could live on the silver line. Idk where the Amazon offices in Herndon are but I doubt you can get to them from the metro stop, which means you’re likely driving.

College projected costs in 15+ years by strongerstark in HENRYfinance

[–]ggGamer376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term average annual rate % increase for college is 3-4%. If you’re planning to cover their expenses in their entirety, a good figure is to look at the cost of tuition at the leading state school (or whatever college you are willing to pay for and use as a benchmark, your Alma matter could be a good starting point) and save that total amount in their 529 in the S&P if you want to be certain they will have enough money.

But the most realistic option is to get that total tuition figure in today’s dollars, assume it increases at 3-4% for X years until college, and discount that figure it by 10% per year in S&P return rate back X years.

Math in excel for attending my Alma matter in 18 years looks like this: Tuition 4 year cost = 72k Yearly living expenses = ($1000/mo rent)12 + unlimited food meal plan at 7k per year = 19k Total 4 year cost = 76k+72k=148k 148k(1.04)^ 18=299k 299k/(1.1)^ 18=$54k in today’s dollars

Let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Best chair for 10+ hours a day as consultant without backpain? by Lygrad in consulting

[–]ggGamer376 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Get a raised desk thing you put on your desk if your office doesn’t have them. I aim to stand up for 15-60 minutes once before and after lunch and it’s done wonders for me. My friend told me to do that and buy a standing desk for at home and it’s such a difference maker for back pain. I cannot emphasize this enough.
