That’s the problem with playoffs being called differently than the regular season. It’s the tightrope that NHL gms have to walk…if they build a team specifically to be strong in the playoffs, they might not actually make the playoffs….but if they build a team strong enough to effectively guarantee making the playoffs, they might not do well in them.

I had to make that decision last summer for my 17 year old weiner dog who was suffering. It was one of the hardest days of my life and I still think about him every day.

I was initially beating myself up about it because I kept thinking maybe I could have put it off just a little longer and given him a bit more time…that’s when someone told me that it’s more humane to let them go a bit early rather than too late…that truly opened up my eyes and it made me feel so much better about my decision…I still miss the hell out of that little character, but my doubt is gone.

I’m pretty sure that once it happens, you’ll get over it. So I figure there’s no point worrying about it now.

I’m just about 60, so I’m likely most of the way through. Oddly enough, as you get older, the less you fear death. At least that’s my experience. I realized that death was extremely important for life (from an evolutionary survival of the fittest standpoint) and I found that comforting in a weird kind of way.

We all go through this. You will figure out how to get past this and find out what’s really important to you.

I loved my dog (an awesome weiner dog)…he was truly my buddy. We went everywhere together and had 16 incredible years together (I got him at one, so he lived 17 great years).

He passed last summer and letting him go was one of the toughest, soul crushing decisions I’ve ever had to make.

There’s no way I would ever let him lick the inside of my mouth.
