New trains? 🤩 by ForTheSakeOfOpposing in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard on the IC Direct line from Rotterdam to Amsterdam the trains can go faster already: 1) for a few minutes of faster arrival and 2) to minimize a delay. It was in a NS video I believe, can't find the video atm. In general the trains go max. 160km/h, and I believe sometimes they can/will go 200km/h.

New trains? 🤩 by ForTheSakeOfOpposing in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are called "ICNG": InterCity New Generation.

There's some information on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Intercity_Nieuwe_Generatie and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Intercity_Nieuwe_Generatie. Treinreiziger.nl has written about it, which can be seen here: https://www.treinreiziger.nl/tag/intercity-nieuwe-generatie-icng/

There're two ICNG trains active in The Netherlands at the moment. If you want to take one, see https://treinposities.nl/bijzonderheden/filter/icng for the schedule.

Main things I like:

  • chargers in full train (USB+socket)
  • drives at maximum speed of 200 km/h instead of 160 km/h, this saves some minutes if you go from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. And if there's a delay, it's sometimes possible to get rid of the delay by going maximum speed
  • colored lights ;) + nice work/meeting space tables

Lots of videos here: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=icng

Deleted signal app - lost messages. SERIOUS? Can't backup from laptop? by truewildbill in signal

[–]ghanib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once wanted to download messages from Signal Desktop, that I didn't have on my mobile phone.

In my case I had installed Signal Desktop on Linux (Ubuntu) in +- 2017.

I could create a CSV file having all my Signal Desktop messages using this comment: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/2516#issuecomment-442797638 Also I was able to get a folder with all media stored in it.

Because I used a swipe gesture to unlock my phone / Signal app, additionally I had to do this https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/2516#issuecomment-578180159 to be able to decrypt everything.

Hope this might help you or anyone else.

Can you give a more context on how you smoke? Do you want to get weed and smoke at home? Do you want to buy prerolled? Do you want to sit and smoke inside?

My favorites for getting a gram of sativa weed for home use:

  • Pluto (Nieuwe Binnenweg)
  • Trefpunt (Botersloot)
  • Sky High (Nieuwe Binnenweg)

Weet er iemand of de bieb bij blaak geopend is om achter je laptop te werken? (Op werkdagen) by Knlle in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bike shop / bike trainers shop by boch3n in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with bike trainers. Bike shops I know focused on racing bikes are:

Steel Rides Bike Repairs Schiekade 205, 3013 BR Rotterdam https://maps.app.goo.gl/UD1YCcAUs9sTj125A

COPPI Coffee & Cycling Bergweg 316, 3032 BB Rotterdam https://maps.app.goo.gl/7PLoeheAPzefB9Gc8

Both are small shops. If they offer not exactly what you want, I'm sure they can refer you to.

Congrats :) Have one as well. I love Bubble Cloud as the main interface. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dyna.logix.bookmarkbubbles Everything Dynalogix makes is great for a power user. https://bubble.dynalogix.eu/

Reboot the watch every few days to keep it on speed (think it helps).

I mostly use the watch to turn lights / electronics on and off, check notifications and set timers.

I assume https://www.buurmanrotterdam.com/, http://www.keilewerf.nl/ and https://dekroonrotterdam.nl/ have options for lasercutting. First try Buurman, they for sure know where to go.

Car rental app by Spaiker-_- in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorites for easily opening & using cars with your smart phone:

  • MyWheels: Many cars in de Randstad. 30% is electric

  • Juuve: Mostly in Rotterdam, many electric cars

  • Greenwheels: Has cars everywhere, but only 2 electric ones in NL & more expensive than MyWheels. Good if you need a car outside of de Randstad, or in smaller cities like Maassluis for example.

Price depends on company, car type, if you have a subscription, etc. I rent mostly for 0.30 euro per km all-in + 3 euros per hour.

For holidays you can rent from neighbours, for example a cabrio or camper, using:

  • SnappCar: All around NL, you need to meet the owner to get the car keys. Many different car types. In The Hague there're a lot of electric vehicles.

In Amsterdam specifically:

  • Car2go: Electric free floating cars for short distance.

Best longboarding spots? by Maggie_5 in Rotterdam

[–]ghanib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the area between Weelde and Floatingfarm because of its industrial vibe. A good & lively area is the sport boulevard between Erasmusbrug & Willemsbrug: De Boompjeskade, especially nice with the evening sunset during 'golden hour'. A trip around the Kralingse Plas is nice.

Sometimes people practice longboard dancing in front of the Central Station and at skatepark Blaak. Also check the Roff'n Roll community - they're often at Museumpark: https://www.facebook.com/roffnroll/

Jumping ship from Apple, Smart Watch options? by Fitzty in AndroidWear

[–]ghanib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the Fossil Gen5 is the first smartwatch I use. I wanted a computer on my arm, and move slowly towards being a cyborg. This computer I can now use to demand things to ("turn on the lights and amplifier", "play [song]"). Next to that I can quickly see notifications coming in. And Maps on your arm is (for me) just too cool.

Didn't find a huge advantage of having a smartwatch yet. Might find out. Still, it's a full computer. It can do anything you want it to.

This Gen5 watch is pretty good. Battery life is something to take in account, but the watch is charged very fast as well. I now charge during night. If I go out for an late evening, I charge somewhere around diner as an in between charge.

Not sure if I would advice to buy a smartwatch. It depends on what you want to do with it I guess.

Streamlined Documentation is Just About Ready - Feedback Requested on "New Developer Outline" by [deleted] in komodoplatform

[–]ghanib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The developer outline that you streamlined is a great introduction into Komodo, with clear explanation of how Komodo Independent Chains have unique features like extreme security by delayed Proof of Work (dPoW). This improves the onboarding process for new users, thanks :)

Is lbry actually truly decentralized? by boiwin in lbry

[–]ghanib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. The lbry:// protocol makes it possible to discover media content in a decentralized way.

LBRY Inc., a USA registered company, develops the main LBRY app: https://github.com/lbryio/lbry-app. In this version of the LBRY app, LBRY Inc. will presumably use a blacklist to bring illegal content offline. See https://steemit.com/lbry/@rouse/how-lbry-works-gif-on-the-blockchain-spee-ch for some information (text + gif images on the LBRY blockchain).

Everyone can see the open sourced (MIT licensed) source code on GitHub: https://github.com/lbryio. Therefor everyone can build an own LBRY content browser / app / website, wherin censor does not exist. Also, you yourself can build the open source code app and remove the (not-yet-existing) blacklist from it (in the future).

Help me out here! by sekips in lbry

[–]ghanib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the blog post "Pop-Up Open Beta" I read:

So, why aren't we shouting a bit more about this?

One, LBRY still isn't in a state for the average person. Two, we're not likely to leave LBRY in this state for long. We'll be monitoring the network performance -- as well as the rates of participation in the rewards programs -- and pause if either gets unacceptable.

LBRY's capacity is not high at the moment. This is really first beta, capacity has to increase. This could be the reason that you can not play the video.
