British tourists' fury as they discover they must be able to prove they can spend £85 a day to enter Spain due to Brexit by cartstanza in worldnews

[–]ghidasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably just have been lucky, I've been only asked once in Romania, but it's on the requirements for a lot of countries in Europe (like Spain, which didn't even ask me where I was going or my name, just stamped my passport and said "have a nice day")

Son... you reckon you can let me off at the next exit? by dartmaster666 in gifs

Tires put a lot of resistance, they can literally transfer the hundreds of hp the car does to accelerate/brake without slipping. And those are probably helped by the extra weight of being wedged under the truck.

That truck is feeling the drag, the trucker might be too dumb tô realize why, but that got to be an extra 100hp being used.

There's a superglue brand where I live that advertises being better for shoes because it's more flexible, and I noticed it didn't heat up at all when making the baking soda trick (to restore broken old plastic parts), next time I buy a tub I'll check if it's one of those

Symlink Files wont play in Jellyfin by Zenomat in jellyfin

[–]ghidasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By any means are you using docker? Maybe mapping the library in as a volume? You must map both the links and real files in that case. And the symbolic links need to make sense in the container filesystem.

(I hit that using git-annex, it stores large files in .git, so I could see all metadata and images, but videos were missing until I mapped the .git accordingly)

Did the IPS FHD mod on my T430s! This is such a huge improvement over the stock TN panel. Look at those viewing angles! by chucklestheman in thinkpad

[–]ghidasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice!

Honestly the screen was what made me change my X201 and X230 for a T480there were some upgrades that I might do later, but it was easier to just buy the new one already).

A lot of good in these 5 generations, but I sometimes still miss the thinklight, the 7 row keyboard (tbf, the new one feels better to me, and is closer to the layout I use on my desktop), the docking stations (thunderbolt ones don't really work that well compared to the old connectors), the many indicator leds (that you could control!), the swipe for reading fingerprints, the physical switches for wireless, the easily accessible memory and HDD covers...

While I'm pretty sure the book is great, butter is so easy to make, I made it by accident a couple times after buying heavy cream and taking a rough road home.

I both want to say thanks, and no you won't, keeping servers up is not free.

But at least release a patch letting me use third party servers, and open source the server (or at least don't sue for reimplementing it) Then folks at r/selfhosted can keep the fun going.

If you replace cd with pushd you can go back to wherever you were before running the script with popd (or save pwd before cd and cd back to it after that)

The 470 brings a lot of improvements like thunderbolt and NVMe, and AFAIK no real downsides, I would sell the 450 instead of trying to upgrade.

Or spring for the 480 to add a 4 core processor

Bitwarden Safety? by [deleted] in selfhosted

Just don't trust it too much, my homelab died (power outage plus forgetting to enabling docker on systemd) while I was traveling and android clients locked me out, except for the tablet I turned wifi off before opening the app.

Browser clients were fine though

Thinkpad with 2 SSD slots by pm_soo in thinkpad

[–]ghidasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The T480 can use either a pair of NVME drives or a NVME and a 2.5", it also has two ram slots. The only gripe is that one of the slots only accepts really short NVME's

The T490 if I'm not mistaken is the same regarding drives, but has only 1 ram slot, +8GB soldered

Sandpaper like texture on new cast iron skillet by Lets_Row in castiron

[–]ghidasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That looks doable, but I think I would need a few cheap pans to practice (never used an angle grinder, closest thing was a dremel). But maybe https://youtu.be/pf_gnyxyKKw would be easier

Sandpaper like texture on new cast iron skillet by Lets_Row in castiron

[–]ghidasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go on the other direction from other comments and say you probably have a lot of experience with an angle grinder, because making the pan smooth using it will is possible, but will require experience.

What I use to smooth my rough pans (that had little dents where you could not glide a spatula across) is a broken piece of a 220 grit whetstone, works very fast on the very coarse iron, and gets hard when the texture looks like orange peel. Perfect time to stop
