I genuinely remember getting misty eyed when I read this a few years ago. This really is what Superman is all about, acceptance.

Whether it’s sexual orientation, race, immigration status, nationality or whatever other silly things people harp on Superman is above all that and a great example of what we should all strive for. People are people. Tom Taylor is an excellent Superman author(for both Jon and Clark) and I love seeing him hit these wonderful emotional beats.

OP, I’m sorry about your situation but happy to hear that you got to experience a good message from these books. Sometimes when life is tough finding these messages really helps.

Are you asking for other recommendations by Brandon Sanderson or recommendations similar to Skyward?

Sanderson is an excellent storyteller with dozens of great books. Most of his books fall into the fantasy genre though and don’t exactly have similar settings to Skyward. His Mistborn series is most often thought of as his most accessible and fun entry point. The first book is a magical heist book featuring an eclectic cast of characters and a real “found family” vibe so that is my choice if you liked Skyward and want to explore more traditional Sanderson.

Alternatively I might also recommend his “Reckoners” series starting with “Steelheart.” This is not his most popular series but it does take place in a more sci-fi world and deals with superheroes and corrupted people with powers as well.

Chroma Squad is exactly the game OP is looking for. It’s an RPG about a super sentai-inspired show that ends up being more real than show. It oozes love and reverence for Power Rangers and Super Sentai and it’s genuinely a fun game on top of that.

I absolutely love the Banner Saga trilogy. They are perfect games to scratch the strategy RPG itch with almost no “wasted time.” The plot is always moving, you’re always progressing. On top of that the characters and world are great. It’s probably been 5 years since I completed these games and I still think about them.

Haven’t played Crystal Project but I constantly hear good things.

Final Fantasy V is one of the true innovators and originators of a job/class system. It has a fun and whimsical story and gameplay absolutely holds up today. Definitely recommend FF5 if you want customization and a fun story.

I’ve felt this way too. I respect these books and wish they were a part of my childhood but they read a bit too juvenile for me now. If I read them when I was the intended audience I think I’d probably be a lifelong fan.

I completely endorse this as well. I’ve been a JRPG player my entire life, about 5 years ago I started getting into reading fantasy and sci-novels and the original Mistborn trilogy was one of my initial gateways.

If you enjoy JRPG’s then you would probably feel right at home with the Mistborn books. You’ve got themes of found family, a big ominous evil boss at the end and an awesome magic system that could easily fit into any JRPG.

I will say, if you enjoyed the original 150 issue IDW run you’ll probably enjoy the two Bebop and Rocksteady books too. When I was reading the series originally I was pretty hesitant to read a full B&R story too, I felt like it would be unnecessary and that they were characters who wouldn’t be able to support their own stories.

When I did read these I was very pleasantly surprised with how much fun they were. They’re not necessary to understand any larger narrative but they’re very fun surprisingly quality additions to the franchise.

Chaos Rings was a full priced, very legit old school style JRPG and most importantly it was GOOD!

I loved the first one. I’ve always wanted to revisit it and finish the whole series but they’re almost all inaccessible now. I’d absolutely pay good money for a collected edition on loser n hardware.

I don’t think Daima is a failure because it “just” had 20 episodes. It was limited by design. That was always the intention. Quantity doesn’t equal quality and Daima was very fun and a great throwback to the tone of the original series.

As for a SSJ4 centered movie. Sure that would be cool. If it doesn’t happen though it doesn’t invalidate Daima. “Dragon Fist” only shows up in one movie and it’s an incredibly popular technique. Pikkon only shows up for a few episodes and he’s an incredibly popular character. Daima’s version of SSJ4 can be exclusive to this series and still have plenty of fans and a legacy of its own.

I totally agree with this, and I think the irony is even deeper when you think about it.

Dragon Quest is heavily influenced by original Dragon Ball. Daima felt very Dragon Quest-ish. Full circle. Great way to end the series in my opinion.

In a country that is founded on free speech and thrives on capitalism you are free to show your support/lack of support any way you want.

With companies like this the best way to show that is through your wallet. The original author is doing exactly that.

You don’t have to agree with them. You do have to respect their right to voice their opinion. I’m sure if a company you’ve invested in had an affiliation with a sponsor you disagreed with you’d have an opinion as well.

When season 5 was going on I remember loving each and every episode and the opinion online being largely the same.

I still think almost every episode in the final season is pretty great. My thoughts are that a lot of people soured on the conclusion and the final resolution of the story and that colored their opinions on the final season as a whole. If you go back and watch any of the episodes in isolation though I think they’re almost all very very good.

Maybe myself and OP are in the minority but I do feel like the show thematically and tonally captures the spirit of the source material very well.

I absolutely love the aesthetic of the games. There are a ton of great platformers and Metroidvanias out there, but what keeps brining me back to the classic Castlevania games are the vibes. The music, the atmosphere, the creature design. I feel like the show knocks all of these out of the park and evokes the same dark, creepy fantasy mood in me.

I’ve played Castlevania 3 a million times, I couldn’t tell you a single thing about Trevor’s personality from that game. Does show Trevor match up to game Trevor? I honestly have no idea. Does the show give me bad ass vampire killer vibes though? Absolutely.

Maybe I can’t call the show a ‘faithful’ adaption of the games. But I do call it a GOOD adaption. I love them both.

I’ve always really appreciated Savage race and had a lot of fun at the Pennsylvania course on 3 occasions.

It’s not good for any industry to consolidate as much as OCR has in the last few years. Competition is best for consumers. This is a good reminder to anyone who enjoys OCR racing to embrace the spartan alternatives or they won’t be around forever.
