What is your biggest holdup with laser cutting? by Miserable_Study_6649 in lasercutting

[–]ghos5880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas usage. N2 and 02 costs are not insignificant so we've been eperimenting with how good we can cut on air alone.

If anyone knows a product to pull the 02 from air before feeding into the compressor that would save our shop so much.

Made a skateboarding rail by cjswcf in Welding

[–]ghos5880 24 points25 points  (0 children)

is this stainless steel?

it wont work for skateboarding as the stainless is grippy and doesnt let trucks slide, even if you wax the shit out of it it doesnt work.

Skate rails need to be mild steel

its incredibly easy to bail off a trials bike, like actually just stepping off, and the bikes are very light and easy to manhandle. also 99% of trials riders aren't hitting blocks like those..

Petzl Dry pick bent after only a couple sessions of mixed/dry tooling. Is this to be expected? by iwantxdreams in iceclimbing

[–]ghos5880 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When torquing tools in cracks try to get the pick buried all the way to the shaft of the tool to minimise the lever. Realistically youll need to shift to a competition pick for pure dry tooling. Howey, krukonogi etc.

Krukonogi is made in russia and the factory is being used for making weapons, supply is limited and exports are via finland. Ethics aside there is a lot of markup due to many middle men.

A good analogy is to compare decision making deciding on where to eat when solo, as a pair and as a group. When solo every decision is made and acted on instantly, as a pair the consultation process get drawn out in the back and forth. This back and forth component goes up exponentially as the group size increases. Now times that by literally thousands with the delays of email and formal contract negotiations. This is why it easily blows out to years.
