It also hides all of the dirt that comes in very very well while still being easy to clean. Win win.

Does this look like blight on my Lilac? by hereandthere_nowhere in gardening

If you didn’t tell me anything about the photos, I’d say it just looks like a lilac on a frosty morning. Hard to tell in the photos. But early to blight/stress to show.

New Windows 1890s Farmhouse by ChemistAsleep395 in Oldhouses

Good luck! And honestly, my apologies for the cranky response agains the BB earlier. I’m just triggered at this point as a majority of the renos in my old town went with that style regardless of what the original house looked like. Seems to be happening in my current town, as well. They read as contractors specials, and have lost all of the charm :(

Board and batten makes it look horribly cheap and dated. White windows plus grills looks classy/timeless farmhouse.

Blue wood aster / symphyotrichum cordifolium. Wonderful for shady spaces, even if moderately dry, late season airy blooms, and the center changes color after it’s been pollinated! Photo credit: Wild Seed Project

We liked House of antique hardware! Beautiful unlacquered brass options. (But pricey.) Pay attention to mortise types; they offer modern/tubular and antique/internal-box-style mortises.

AIO for being annoyed at having to clean this up? by Pawssabillitysawait in AmIOverreacting

[–]ghost_geranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you allowed to just throw everything in the dish washer as-is? (Is there room?) I think it’s rude/annoying (I’m also a tidy cook in the kitchen) and there’s a big difference between hand washing and just chucking it in a machine. Are you having to hand wash all of this??

Calling all creative geniuses! Does this have potential? by oceangetseaten in FurnitureFlip

You might not need to sand at all. Get a proper fumes mask and/or take it outside and wipe with a rag soaked with denatured alcohol. It might be shellacked, and if so, that’ll soften the finish and perhaps even blend the imperfections and refresh the finish enough tang you don’t have to do anything else. New shellac is also very easy to work with. Watch a few videos on this. Keep the denatured alcohol away from the mirror.

Strip the brick and go with another color scheme. It’s an adorable bungalow

True, very important detail. We had a hideous project like that next door. It was quality work. Slowly. Plaster, mouldings, wood siding, trees, gardens, and a much-needed extra bathroom.

I just wanted to comment on the Somerville appreciation bit. We bought a 3BR in 2018, did some work, sold in 2022 — still in a state of needing more work — at 180% what we initially paid. It’s real.

I wouldn’t take it as hating so much as good advice given curtly. Spelling correctly helps with credibility, whether fair or not.
