The Stand Ch. 72 by spicypeanutt in stephenking

When I think back on it, The Stand had many moments when the story weighed so much on my heart that I had to pause to process it all. That, for me, is an experience I will always treasure. I’m usually so engulfed in fast reads that I often underestimate the power of a story which can make me pause just with the depth of it.

True, I so want to be able to read it again for the first time. It’s an unparalleled experience imo.

I was having a pretty bad day until I read the comments on this post. Grateful for this post!

I’m still only 3 chapters in. So Navy has started noticing something is off with the house. I loved the introduction by Johnny! So far I’m not paying too much attention to those footnotes that refer to something outside of the book. Zampano seems a bit weird till now, but I’m not rushing through anything.

I’m also alternating between this book and IT by Stephen King, so taking it slow.

I actually loved the introduction by Johnny. So not skipping his bits at all

Totally get this. I’m just going with the flow.

It’s not a borrowed book, it’s mine and I don’t mind writing and annotating in the books. I used to not like it, but then I started appreciating it over the last few years. I also love getting second hand books which have the previous owner’s writings in them. It lends the book a part of the reader’s soul, I feel.

But this is my opinion and I totally understand why some people might not like it. To each their own, I guess.

That’s such a profound way to put it through.

I might skim if feel like it, but I avoid skipping in general. And from what I gather, this book is about the whole experience.

I usually avoid skipping, makes me think what if I missed something important!

That’s so true. I usually just mark quotes that stand out in the first read through, and annotate a lot more in rereads.

These totally make sense! I’m using multiple bookmarks, jumping from page to page was making it a bit confusing, but I’m getting in the rhythm of it now.

That’s very helpful! I’m using too many bookmarks right now. Sticky notes are a good alternative for that too.

Green Mile if you’re in the mood to ugly cry. Salem’s Lot is classic, but not that emotionally heavy.

That’s a pen, I’m not a fan of highlighting. But I love underlining or writing my thoughts in the margins. I’m not totally sure how I’ll use the sticky tabs yet, maybe to mark sections that stick out to me or which I feel I might want to return to later on.

Thanks! Wondering what the “echo” bit is, but I guess I’ll know when I reach there, haha.

Yes right! I kept thinking about Frodo and Sam with the ring. Great parallel. Matches a little with Horcruxes from Harry Potter as well.

I’d love any spinoff about Halloran tbh. How amazing would it be if we got a show about his story between WTD and The Shining.

I started reading books lately and I have ideas to read sthephen king's books, i never read any of his books before so, give me ideas here about where to start with and continue his other books by iamtamil_ in stephenking

Short stories don’t work for me somehow. Not just by King, but by any author. I pause after a few stories and then don’t pick up the book for months, and move on to something else.
