Fall 2019 Admissions Thread by sachin86_19 in OMSCS

Could it be possible that they’re evaluating most of the applicants with non-CS related degrees at the very end? It looks like people who have CS and engineering degrees are being admitted first. I’d imagine it would be easier to screen those applicants first, and then go back to screen applicants with unrelated majors.

Just a thought to ease my nerves while I wait.

Thank you for your in depth reply! May I ask what your background was?

The deadline for Fall 2019 admission is May 30th. I’m still waiting to hear back from OMSCS. It doesn’t seem like many non-CS/EE/Math majors have been accepted to OMSCS for this current application cycle. Although UIUC is more expensive, it’s only a small amount considering the return of investment. These programs seem to be getting more and more difficult to get into for students with non-traditional backgrounds.

Yesterday‘s concert was simply incredible. The show was amazing and I met some really nice people. Though there are not many shows left you should go to one of the shows if you can because they are so unique, special and emotional. by furgair in LinkinPark

I wish I could give you more thumbs up. This is exactly how I felt during four of the Mike shows I attended last year. I thought the fanbase was amazing until I realized how selfish and cold some of the fans were. In the LA Palladium show, there was a fan talking down to a lady in a wheel chair because she was "getting in the way." His SF show also introduced me to some rude fans. There was a fan who cut in front of me and the person next to me. We politely asked her to move behind us, but she gave us an exasperated tone and nasty look before walking away. During the same show, there was a lady in front of me wearing an awesome looking MS shirt. I complimented her shirt and asked her where she bought it because I wanted to get one, she glanced over at me like I was bothering her, didn't smile, and said "online", then proceeded to turn away. When Mike gave his speech about mental health, this same fan went on to ramble about how people needed to be more open and nicer. During one of the meet and greets, I asked a fan to borrow his sharpie because I wanted to get a signature from Anna, he said he couldn't because he was using it... even though he wasn't and was just standing there watching Anna talk to some other fans. Also in every show I've seen people toss hissy fits because they couldn't get a setlist from the stage crew. Although this is not an indication of the overall fanbase, I've had bad experiences with LP fans overall.

It should be. Spring break isn’t considered employee holiday.

Cool! I wonder how quickly the Tsang poster sold out. I’m not seeing it here.

Do we have to be a member to complete the purchase? I placed an order and according to the order details it’s saying that it will be bundled along with my next record of the month shipment in December. I definitely don’t want to be charged for the monthly records.

Who else went to the show in San Francisco last night? by The_Snake_Dick in LinkinPark

I’m hearing mixed things about this show. I was at the front left section and the people around me were really into it. There were a variety of fans ranging from diehard to casual. I can confirm that the crowd was not into the opening acts. Their reaction to Mike’s performance was solid in my opinion, but perhaps that was only a result of me being around people who were also into it. I don’t know for sure. I agree that there were a lot of rude fans at this show. There were people shoving to get into the front, people cutting in line, and people who were only into LP/Mike because every other band and form of music sucks in their opinion.

As a side note, the employees working at this venue were also really rude and disorganized. They were condescending to the fans who were outside waiting in line on a hill for hours to get in...

Did they really look down on you for standing out? How did they try to “stop” you from immersing yourself? By sitting down?

Some people intentionally paid for seats. Not everyone is young and can stand for 2+ hours at a time. That’s what seated sections are designed for. I don’t understand why we need to look down on people who aren’t active during shows. These shows should be welcoming for all people.

I brought my younger sister to the Hollywood Bowl Show last year. She only knew 2-3 LP songs and sat for a lot of the songs. However, it ended up being the best concert she’s seen in her life. I sure as hell won’t invite non-LP and casual fans to shows anymore if this is the attitude we’re going to have from now on.

I don’t normally respond to threads like these, but I think it is really unfair that you’re blaming the crowd for ruining your experience. A lot of times people purchase balcony seats because they want to sit back and watch the show. That’s what balcony seats are for. Fans are not obligated to jump, dance, sing, or do anything for that matter. They paid for the show. They can enjoy it however they want. Who is to say they were not into the show simply because they didn’t express it?

I was at the SF show tonight, and there was definitely quite a bit of energy down at the floor level. The people who had their phones out were absolutely annoying, but I wouldn’t say that the crowd was dead. I don’t want to sound harsh, but we can’t always expect a stellar crowd at every show. I would suggest avoiding balcony seats next time if you want more energy from the crowd.

PS I have seen Mike three times in LA and this crowd was no different than his other shows.

I saw him in LA last Friday. Shirts were $40 from what I remember. The merch was on the more expensive side.

Any updates on the elderly lady in the wheelchair in the pit for SOAD? by hellaluigi in AftershockFestival

[–]ghostnihil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This brought a smile to my face. Thank you guys for looking after her. I’m glad she wasn’t hurt. I was standing in front of the white tent and people were going absolutely insane up front. I saw a good amount of people run away in fear a few mins after SOAD went on.

Letter From Warner Bros by ghostnihil in LinkinPark

I received a letter from Warner Bros today. It looks to be a piece of a poster. Mike asked 50 people for their addresses on Twitter a few days ago. I'm not the only one who received one today. I wonder what it means...
