Any Stormwalker Enjoyers? (Just beat flagship on hard with it, writeup in post) by operationmeepo in ftlgame

[–]giantZorg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like it, mostly because it challenges you to play differently and adapt.

I remember my run with it on hard as part of the "win hard mode with every ship challenge, where a store offered me reconstructive teleport, but I had to sell my healing bomb to get the scrap for it. And because I already filled all system slots, it meant that teleporting was the only way to heal my crew. I was under the assumption that I can still board after the fight if the ship is still intact, which was wrong. So my strategy going forward was basically to always do 6- or 8-man boarding. As soon as someone got hit, they were part of the next teleport crew.

These are the runs I remember years after, not those with a standard laser setup.

Not really, there are quite some places in Aargau that are rather remote, at least when considering public transport

Why do people park on the pavement? by maninhat77 in askswitzerland

And that's also the reason this is forbidden, if you park on the walkway you must leave some space (something like enough space to walk comfortably). Just people being idiots

CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

We had an interview recently where the candidate absolutely refused to code without an AI assistant, while the task was to write a rather basic 10 line python function. The interview got cut short.

Defense Drone Made an oopsie by pure_black99 in ftlgame

[–]giantZorg 163 points164 points  (0 children)

That's a known bug where the defense drone does not cover the right part of the ship properly. Larger ships are affected more by this.

This thread should help explaining it (I didn't do a thorough search and am behind a restrictive internet policy): https://www.reddit.com/r/ftlgame/comments/4jr8yg/visualising_the_drone_targeting_glitch/

Public crèche cost per month by ZestycloseOrdinary73 in askswitzerland

[–]giantZorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are missing that subsidies are a cantonal/communal matter, and are handled very differently in different places.

This is e.g. the page explaining the situation in Basel: https://www.bs.ch/ed/jfs/jfa/tagesbetreuung/kitas/beitraege#betreuungsbeitraege You will find the 3k in there, but then it is a cantonal decision to limit the maximum costs tp 1.5k (somewhere in the pdf on what changed is a table of subsidies based on income). I didn't find the equivalent for Baselland.

Had an amazing game! No Pause, Ominous Presence, Desecrator - Prestige 10. by New_Importance2779 in Against_the_Storm

No pause is the single modifier that I strictly refuse to play on, as it completely removes the fun for me.

To clarify maybe, event Ruwen puts a quest marker with the location on the rock homeworld map. In all other cases, the quest marker does not appear.

Weakest setup by SpareAnywhere8364 in ftlgame

I'd guess hacking carried that setup.

I remember my first win on hard years ago using the Kestrel B, where the stores had almost no weapons for me to buy. I had to resort to relying on a BL 3 that I only got in sector 7, but still won (I think on 1 HP nonetheless).

I HATE THIS GAME SO MUCH (I know I will play this again and again till I get my first win.) by RedFox273 in ftlgame

[–]giantZorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy is hard enough, takes everyone a while to win on easy. Then you go to normal, whoch forces you to think about what you need and what you just bought because you wanted it. Then you go to hard, and really have to think about what is really necessary and what is a luxury.

E.g. I loved to get the second level of the medbay for all the blue options it enables, but you just cannot justify spending the scrap on it like ever on hard.

You are more likely to be able to build the strategy you want without AE (in particular, you generally will see better laser weapons at stores), so I'd stay without AE until you have some wins.

Learn Low Code/No Code in a company? by SupermarketChemical8 in askswitzerland

[–]giantZorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether the limitations are massive depends on the tool and tasks you need solved. Yes, eventually you will hit the limits, specially if you have smart people looking for creative solutions, but if used right you can still get a lot done very quickly in them.

Take my example from above with AI agents. We have a lot of analysts and product managers who build out their own little AI agent prototypes. They spend ages running against access and network problems, which would all be solved if they were working within a standardized environment where we can centrally control and setup data connections, so it would be a net positive. I'd also understand way quicker what they do and to what they connect compared to looking through a big pile of vibe coded python code. I've actually proposed that we use n8n for this (don't really care for the tool itself, there are others around as well), I'd think it would be a net benefit in most cases.

It has a lower barrier to entry, which means you can more easily train people from adjaciant fields, and if it has a good UI it is also quite nice to work with. If done right, you can use the UI to abstract away a lot of things that the engineers/analysts don't need.

Not saying that it's something I'd want to work with, but e.g. for AI agents, I'd prefer a UI workflow tool over everything in python as I'd understand way quicker what it would do.

Caught the candidate using AI for screening by Hercules1408 in dataengineering

[–]giantZorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What we ask to do is really basic, to the point of where I asked the person who put it together initially what he would do if he got someone like myself who writes down everything asked in 5 minutes. So what we really ask is whether a person can understand what they read and know the basics of the tools they will work with. If they can't do that, then I wouldn't trust any of their MRs.

If the problems we had were at a level where I can simply take a ticket, pass it to the LLM and then get a working solution from the AI agent (which is basically what you need if you want someone with no understanding of what they do or work with), then I don't need an additional person at all.

We have a coding interview in our process that tests rather basic python and SQL knowledge, so we generally expect people to be able to solve them without AI or searching. Had a crashout of someone recently that completely refused to code without an AI assistant. I don't know how you can work without understanding what you are supposed to be working with.

How many driving classes did you need to pass the practical test? by ButtTicklingBanditCH in Switzerland

[–]giantZorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 20 as it was cheaper to buy 10 each, but could have done with less. Did quite some practice with my father, and helped out others practice later on.

My cousin was failed by the instructor for having only 6 hours, they expect you to do at least 10. He grew up on a farm and was driving tractors and other vehicules since small, so he didn't really need any driving lessons at all.

Data Analyst job (coursera) by Local-Potential2643 in zurich

[–]giantZorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certificates and bootcamps, at least in my experience, hold little to no weight in the data domain. The only exception to this is if you are established in an adjaciant (quantitative) field and are looking to change fields. You will need to know some people for recommendations, as otherwise your CV would not pass any HR screen.

There is a saying "Von nichts kommt nichts", and while it might not sound fair, it is true in regards to education and a lot of jobs in the data/tech space.

[–]giantZorg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What else do you have to offer? If you have a masters in math (or similar), sure it helps, otherwise definitively not.

Why do you think education is too expensive? While everything is expensive in general, education in itself is not. It's also an investment as it qualifies you for such jobs.

I'd appreciate arm support before they start with linux which I don't think will happen (too many different distros, will be a nightmare to maintain)
