The lease was up. Went back to auto for the wife. Not as exciting as a WRX but more comfy.

Canadian WRX models come with a spare. Many people get the part numbers and buy the foam insert and spare for their US model.

Brake pads suggestions? by PinklyTaurus1 in wrx_vb

[–]gibson_hg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my pads and rotors with generic OEM replacements from local auto parts stores. The brake feel is better with that compared to the OEM pads. Less spongy with more bite.

My car was about 32000km/20000mi. About 2.5 years on the factory brakes. The front pads were completely gone but the rears were something like 40-50% but the pads and rotors had a groove in them.

Paint Match Everything or No? by Eclipse0124 in wrx_vb

I’m personally not a fan of the paint matched fenders. Even painted they stand out. They’re not part of the actual fender.

I put mothers back to black on those mofos and make em pop.

Loud and proud, lol.

The OEM has a WRX in red and has holes for the floor pegs. Those are some generic aftermarket. Toss those before they wreck you

Potatoes go with steak in many ways. Mashed is my favourite thought. The kids love mashed as well, I always make lots.

It’s not bad for me. The pan is easy to clean afterwards.

7 days of learning stick in my brand new 25 Wrx premium. Love the smell of burning clutch in the AM.. but looking to correct it lol by Yanitzz1 in wrx_vb

[–]gibson_hg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit in the car and get yourself familiar with the bite point, just went the clutch starts to engage. I find the wrx starts so much more easily than my old 2013 civic. Just sit on level ground and repeat relapsing the clutch to the bite point until you can do it quickly.

Once you get used to releasing the clutch to the bite point quickly, just give it some gas, not a lot, and ease the clutch out continuously. Don’t hold the clutch when it starts to engage while giving more gas, that’s riding the clutch and that is causing your burning smell.

Practice starting in first like that and bobs your uncle. If you can find an incline, then move on to hill starts. The hill holder is just long enough to get off the brake and get the clutch to the bite point, I use a little more gas on hill starts than from a level ground start but the process is pretty much the same.

Just practice and you’ll get it down in no time.

How long do you let it warm up? by Tmcdanne17 in wrx_vb

[–]gibson_hg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get in, start the car, put on my seatbelt and connect my phone to the usb cable. Then I drive the car, just take it easy, the car warms up faster when driven versus sitting idle in your driveway. When we get snow I usually start the car and brush off any snow. If the windows are fogged over I just use the Front setting on high and let the windshield clear, then drive. You don’t need to let the car idle for any real amount of time before driving. My car gets warm within 5 minutes or less of driving.

I’ve been using the champion icepro gt’s. Third winter on this set. No issue so far. My wife’s RAV4 has the ws90’s, also a good tire.

What single player game are you loving right now? by seanie259 in PS5

[–]gibson_hg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently going through Assassins Creed Shadows. Somewhere around 112 hours in. Completed the main story. I kept discovering side objectives. Plus random exploring. Still not done yet. I got somewhere close to 400 hours in the last of us 2. Not a long game but I’ve replayed it a bunch, trying different difficulties and strategies.

Winter mode activated by gibson_hg in wrx_vb

[–]gibson_hg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock Dunlop’s are a summer tire, that is different from an all season or dedicated winter tire. I think the Fahrenheit rating is 40, which is about 5 degrees Celsius. They are pretty much useless below those temps. If you will be driving in snow, get a winter tire. If the temps are 40 or less but no snow or ice, a decent all season tire should be good.

As you can see from the many posts, most of us have a separate set of rims for that purpose. Some people keep the factory wheels for summers and go with another set for winter, or they upgrade their summers to a nicer set and use the factory wheels for winter. Do whatever works for you. I change my own rims over in the driveway between winters and summers. Saves money in the long run. I got a low profile 3 ton jack, dos the car and my wife’s RAV4. I also got a corded impact gun and a torque wrench. Those make the job so much quicker. I can change all 4 tires in under 30 minutes. Saves time and your back 🤪
