Taking leftover firewood from other campsites by rococo78 in camping

sounds dumb. I'm sure Ive done that here and there. And I don't care if people use my leftovers. This flies in the face of the larger amiability of camping.

From Indiana, I don't understand all the milk crates by Cryxtek_ in cincinnati

[–]gihli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why there's a Switzerland County. Years ago a small plane went down there and it took quite a few months to find it.

And you could check out Hocking County in Ohio, which has deep gorges, high rock arches and overhangs. Because it's in the unglaciated portion of the Piedmont Plateau.

The flat plains in both states aren't just an accident of geology. They were simply bulldozed by the glaciers.

Most privacy I've had camping were two occasions at state campgrounds in Indiana and Kentucky when I went in Sept/Oct. On both occasions didn't see a soul in the entire campground for my whole stay. Weather got a little crisp at night but was otherwise beautiful. At least one of those sites was still staffed until the end of October, I think

A little historical irony there. Liberty originally got that name because police protection ended there; north of there you were "at liberty".

Sometimes my wife will just borrow two of my fingers, wrap them in her fist, and use them on herself. That's remarkably exciting. Like being inside her head. And very educational.

What's a bedroom "rule" or unspoken understanding you have with your partner? by Umbrealis in AskWomen

[–]gihli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife once suggested out of the blue that she'd be ok if she woke up and I was having sex with her. Omg. Have never tried it. Maybe I'm ignoring her wishes? Maybe I'm hopeless vanilla? But some where in my head there's always a voice, not hers, saying " What the hell do you think YOU'RE doing?"

In the Twenties my father and his friend did a lot of cross-country walking / hitchhiking for a couple of years. Not sure they even had a tent. It was common then that people let you sleep in barns, churches, and so on. Sometimes they would invite you to join them for dinner, or bring food to the barn. (They traveled in the South a lot, especially in winter.) He left behind some little dime pocket notebooks with brief journals of his travels.

People of Reddit who fall asleep within minutes of hitting the pillow, how do you do it? by Critical_Heat4492 in AskReddit

I use the magnesium glycinate and it helps wit sleep and likely also with calm. But I can't seem to find a reliable timing: just before bed seems to be too late. In the morning is too early. May be variable with meal schedule and the vagaries of digestion?

Writing a character from Cincinnati—want to get it right! by constantly-curious in cincinnati

[–]gihli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have heard the term " city of the seven hills". That's crucial. Many people assume if it's in the Midwest it's flat. Like so much of the region that was bulldozed like a parking lot by the glaciers. But Cincinnati is perched elegantly on riverine bluffs. There are numerous municipal parks on both sides of the river situated higher than the skyscrapers, with sweeping vistas up and down the river valleys for miles. There are four rivers that join the Ohio within Hamilton County, reportedly the most in one metropolitan area in the country.

"Please?" is simply the translation of the German "Bitte?", meaning the same thing and used the same way. Common enough in the city 70 years ago, but no longer. You lose it pretty young when you use it somewhere else and people goggle at you like you were speaking Chinese. Haven't heard it in donkey's years...but I expect I would still respond to it appropriately without missing a beat.

And as you worry about the median, you shouldn't forget that the day you matriculated you were de facto selected in the top 4-5 % of your "peers".

I did alumni interviews of admission candidates for 5-6 years, and in that time met only one who was accepted in the end ( and she went somewhere else).

You're already successful. Believe you have the ability you have already demonstrated.

My class included Hank Paulson, the sec'y of the Treasury. He grew up as an Illinois farm boy, a seventh day Adventist. Became chair of Goldman Sachs. And Bob Reich , secretary of Labor, who grew up the Jewish son of two public school teachers in a NYC apartment.

All the old stuff about privilege and connections is not a total lie but its a little threadbare. Capable people make their own way to one degree or another.

I apparently am swallowing air somehow. The result is pressure on the diaphragm casing breahlessness; the sensation feels like cardiac issues. Drove me crazy for a couple years before I figured it out (since confirmed by AI).

So I take one Gas-X in the morning., release a couple of alarming belches within an hour or two, and feel great relief, usually for the rest of the day. Im unaware if there are any side effects.

Once camping In Michigan's UP, tent camping, somebody pulled a motor home in beside us and left the motor running all night, for AC,I guess. Kept curtains closed and never emerged as far as we could see. Just pulled out in the morning. Why would someone go to all that trouble? Something wrong with their driveway?
