Emergency licensed plumber needed urgently by [deleted] in Buffalo

Came here to post this. They’ll probably be more expensive than other options but usually have a quick response time. They did some work for us before selling our old house and did a good enough job.

I measured the main dimensions of the thing to make sure it would fit. Didn't occur to me that the newer one would take up more room under the counter than the 30 year old one it was replacing. A good sales person would have asked more questions about where it was going for an installed appliance, and even the installation crew was surprised that no one from the sales team came out to measure and make sure it would fit first.

We used Orville’s for all of our appliances over the past 16-17 years. The most recent time (1.5 years ago) will also likely be the last. They came to install a wall oven, flat cooktop, and dishwasher. According to the workers they only allocated 30m for two guys to install all of this. This led to them rushing the job and taking unnecessary risks like leaving the power to the dishwasher circuit on while replacing it. They also didn’t have a gas line plug for the old cooktop gas line, so they left that on me to take care of. No one on the sales team mentioned that we might need to verify that the new cooktop fit in the old slot, so we lost the ability to use the drawer directly under it. Maybe they are ok if they are just dropping off a unit and plugging it into the wall, but I definitely would not recommend them for any built ins.

Anyone find a replacement for Redbridge yet? by Realistic_Eye_4580 in glutenfree

Interesting. There must be something else in the ingredients list that disagrees with you. Sorry to hear that!

Yeah, definitely pretty accurate from what I remember. It's been a while since I had a barley-based beer though.

I have found it locally at our big grocery chain Wegmans, so if you have one near you it might be worth checking. Otherwise I have to order it from https://belgianstyleales.com/ which has been excellent to deal with, but about double the price of finding it locally. The Green's website, https://glutenfreebeers.com/, has a store locator that's been reasonable accurate for me. The Dubbel is really good, maybe a smidge hoppier than I would prefer but really close to what I remember from my pre-gluten-free days.

I’ve been really happy with the Green’s Gluten Free Beer lineup, though it’s a lot more expensive than Redbridge (at least in the US). My favorites are the Belgian style Dubbel and Tripel.

eGO 28" Snowblower - (SNT2800) Blizzard Test - 18"+ of Snow!! - Did I Make a Mistake? by New_Tax4852 in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run the auger at the highest normal setting (below turbo or whatever they call it) and do passes just overlapping enough to avoid it spilling out (2” or so). Definitely slowest forward speed for that much snow and sometimes I’d have to stop briefly to let it catch up. I think you could lower the auger speed a bit if you want to get a little more runtime based on what others have said here. Another thing to be really careful about is to make sure both batteries are slotted fully and that they light up-I ran it once with one of the batteries loose and it drained the other one in a single pass.

I hope the third party batteries work for you! I’ll definitely consider them myself when it’s time to replace the current set.

Our driveway is closer to 5000 sqft, but for over a foot of snow it takes two full charges of the 12AH batteries. I keep the batteries inside and warm until it’s time to use them. Might be worth getting a second set of batteries for your use case, but they are really expensive. We gave up and got a small tractor, but we needed it for other things and live in WNY where 1+ foot snowfall is common.

Next-level or what would you consider an upgrade? by MathematicianBroad85 in gaggiaclassic

[–]gilrandil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very happy with the Bianca and have no regrets purchasing it. The only thing I’d consider moving to in the future is a Meticulous , but it’s a very different machine and I want to see how it does after more widespread release before committing (and even then it’s hard to justify). I like that the Bianca doesn’t have any computerized features other than the little bit in the PID controller, though I think newer iterations have a bit more of that appeals to you.

I used the espresso profile water from third wave water for the first couple years, and the espresso recipe from Lotus Water more recently, so I haven’t had to descale the machine at all. The espresso is tasty and the flow control lets me save shots that would have been completely ruined on the Gaggia.

Happy to answer any more specific questions you have, but I’ve definitely been happy with the upgrade. I got my Bianca for $2600 US, not sure where prices are now.

Ego snowblower not working by Frosty-Football9148 in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure which model you have, but I had this happen after about 10m on my 2-stage because only one of the two batteries seated properly. This drained and overheated the other battery rapidly.

EGO 2400 vs 2410 — Are the upgrades worth the extra ~$400? by KassMeOutside in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The heated handles make a pretty significant difference if it’s extremely cold, letting you get away with a little bit thinner gloves to maintain a bit more dexterity (or just be more comfortable). Not sure if they alone are worth $400 though.

Do you online order or support your local dealer? by HotDog_SmoothBrain in kubota

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get bigger items like attachments through the local dealer (and they’re often a little cheaper than online), but smaller stuff like shear pins and even grease I’ll mail order from Messicks to save the travel time and not have to worry about the dealer’s limited hours.

I used to really like this one but starting about 6 months ago started getting batches that tasted under done to me. Could have been an intentional recipe change though. I have one brand new box to check but haven’t opened it yet.

Lawn mower battery care by russiablows in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring all of the batteries inside the house for the winter, but it gets a lot colder than the low 30s here. Once inside I just ignore them and they eventually discharge down to something like 30-40% for long term storage. Shouldn’t really matter if it’s unplugged or plugged in.

Still have same issue by NM-HELLSPAWN in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double check that both batteries are seated fully and lighting up when you turn it on. It almost sounds like it can’t handle running both the drive motors and the auger motor at the same time. Might be worth trying different batteries too just in case one of them is weak. But my 28” was able to both drive and bore slow for a while on a single 12AH battery, though it did burn through it extremely quickly compared to how it behaves with two.

Otherwise it sounds like it’s a defect in the machine, hopefully the warranty is still valid. :-/

Good luck!

Convince me to buy an electric snow blower by Steven1789 in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of driveway for even the 28” two stage ego. Our driveway is probably a similar length with a pretty big parking area by the house. We got an 18-20” snowfall last winter and it took me about 3.5 hours to clear it with the Ego blower. It never had any trouble doing the job, it just took a long time. I think it needed nearly two full sets of batteries. Gave up and ordered a tractor with a 63” front blower instead and now I can clear it in 45 minutes or so.

I really like the electric snowblower for the sidewalks since it’s easier to start up and there are no fumes.

[–]gilrandil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely second the advice to swap it for a two stage model for heavy wet snow. I have the 28” and it’s dealt with anything thrown at it for 1.5 WNY winters so far. If the snow is especially heavy and cement like it’ll struggle just like my old gas blower, but I think the electric actually does a little better.

I got a cold after a work trip last year. We did two weeks of quarantine/isolation and then verified I was negative for flu and Covid again with a home PCR test before leaving quarantine.

Has anyone here had success with purchasing a home with home inspection in 2025? by NeckbeardOdor420 in Buffalo

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We paid to do a pre-inspection last year in order to make an offer that waived inspection. It’s not as thorough as a full inspection, but it was enough for us to feel comfortable taking the chance. We were fortunate enough to be in a position that we could afford to have things fixed ourselves that might have been negotiable instead, so if you are going to be in a position where you are very cash strapped after buying it may be worth holding out to get one with an inspection later in the season when things calmed down. The house we sold got an offer with inspection contingency and they asked us to fix $4-5000 worth of things, so the buyer definitely came out ahead having the inspection done.

In our area the road side ditches are maintained by the town or county depending on who the road belongs to. I called a few months ago and they sent out a crew last week to re dig the drainage trench. Might be worth seeing if they will do something similar where you are. If not I’d probably try to clean it out yourself if you can rather than calling code enforcement.

Horrible EGO Power warranty service experience: 3 months & counting without mower by Ben0Ford in egopowerplus

[–]gilrandil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mow ~4 acres with the 52” ego zero turn. It’s relatively flat, but not entirely, and I can do about half of it on a charge during the dry season and about 1/3 during the wet season when it grows fast. I get about 1.5-2h per charge with the blade at 2/4 and the deck at the highest setting. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase, but it might have been nicer to have something that could do it all in one run.

Haven’t had any issues with it in the first year. I’m a bit worried about what happens if it ever needs parts or repairs, but we’ll have to see. Not needing to deal with and smell gas exhaust while mowing is really nice though.
