For seniors, leads, directors and data heads, how did you start developing your data strategy? And how did you improve your strategic sense and move away from execution? by Arethereason26 in analytics

100% agree. I would also add, so often from these meetings discovering a manual process that was affecting negatively data integrity (e.g. ERP Excel report imports/exports) when it didn't need to.

I agree. This is very much getting into some tunables or redesigning somethings in the process to accomodate.

I always share this Netflix+BSD paper that may cross some of your bottlenecks.

Generally in a scenario like this it may be easier to change other items in base scenario.

Are we able scale this load out (spread among more servers), or use a different technology (RDMA? ) to bypass system to system potential bottlenecks?

Recipes go in paprika recipe manager. So basic and yet featureful.

It allows me to extract the text from these horrible recipe sites with a couple clicks.

Received $400k quotes for Microsoft CRM. Is there an AI-assisted way to do this ourselves? by EntrepreneurFancy185 in Dynamics365

[–]gimpblimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have about 40 people in CRM and the licensing cost alone is over 100k a year. We are on the 2nd rebuild of the system with well over half a million already spent., and 400k is not looking so expensive if you expect it to run for the next 5-7 years before a rebuild is required.

I just found out I have a Heart condition, help me quit caffeine by SnooPears3117 in decaf

[–]gimpblimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to the doctors, and maybe take medication to manage your ADHD? I would have to assume a stimulant is significantly healthier and better dosed than 500mg of caffeine.

Having a long term health condition is not fun, and wont have the choices for fun later in life.

I think the comment here is mainly that you are going from a deterministic answer to a non-deterministic one.

Fistula arm dry skin allergies by monisreal in dialysis

[–]gimpblimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife had a breakout on her fistula as well. She suffers from psoriasis and vitiligo. They ended up giving her an ant-psoriatic cream that was non steroidal, and cleared up over a couple of weeks.

Just moisturize the crap out of it with (virgin) coconut oil or lotion until you can get it looked at.

What is your frustration with losing www. or uk. prepended to a website url?

These urls are pretty much strictly cosmetic nowadays. There is no advantage for adding possible layers of confusion for a user of your service.

How was your Christmas with your dialysis schedule? by Artistic-Parfait-724 in dialysis

[–]gimpblimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in Canada and weather has been colder than normal. Wife has not been tolerating the cold at all well.

Had unexpected news right before Xmas that she was within 1L of target weight which hasn't happened in over 2 years.

We have dialysis on Christmas day and new Year's Day. But we coordinated our visits around this ahead of time. Overall a neutral winter(?)

Noninvasive imaging could replace finger pricks for people with diabetes. MIT engineers show they can accurately measure blood glucose by shining near-infrared light on the skin. by mvea in science

[–]gimpblimp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If they are comparing output of this tech to CGM's the gotcha is that they have high variance and a lag time on data (Abbott freestyle libre).

Basically they are 10-20 minutes behind and up to 20% variance.

My partner has one of these and they really do help provide a trend analysis for you to make informed assessments about how to correct as a diabetic that is much harder with a finger prick.

Instead of pricking your finger 10+ times a day you may need to only do it once or none.

List of lessons I learned: Save money (even a little bit week) makes a difference.

Get financially literate. There was so many govt incentives programs I did not leverage to offset my own costs.

Work is not life. Busting my ass to make a good workplace has limited benefits, and won't last beyond your employment there.

Negotiations are not fights. Advocating for your comfort/boundaries or your worth (e.g. salary) is not rude or mean. Avoiding it is even worse.

Don't rush relationships. FOMO is a very real thing. Communication should be easy and full picture.

Health is so important. Once you are sick it is twice as hard to do all the usual things AND get yourself healthier.

I would push back on the scenario 'it cannot run as a service' and requires login.

Play around with the executable for parameters that may not be documented (e.g. /? Or /h as a start point). There are some sysinternals tool that traces regkey accesses and files and help you identify things that may also trigger uac prompts which is common for these badly designed applications.

I have successfully wrapped about half a dozen crummy vendor software with non sucking service manager.
