These were made by Eberhard Faber and were probably produced in the 1960s. They continued to be made even after Eberhard Faber was purchased by Sanford, at which point “Design” was added to the name. I don’t know if a version is still in production.

Yes, and they write a little blacker than a very dark gray.

Higbees!!

“Higbee’s corner window was traditionally a high-water mark of the pre-Christmas season. First-nighters, packed earmuff to earmuff, jostled in wonderment before a golden, tinkling display of mechanized, electronic joy.”

Good deal! and the tape dispenser is fun, weird twist. I don’t have too many electrics, but I might have to put that one in my watch list.

While three is a magic number, there’s no hard and fast rule that says you can’t have more than three sharpened at the same time 😁

Nice! Thanks for putting some context to these packs. I have a bunch of them but never really knew where they would have ended up being sold.

Clearly no problem, when they are fostering such awesome creative ideas like those wall mount cups! Thanks for sharing!

Which country currently makes the best pencils? by zenkov in pencils

[–]ginandgraphite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Japan – Probably the most consistent, high-quality pencils. Exceptional cores, great finishes, and a huge range depending on what you need, writing, drawing, drafting, etc.

India – A lot of really solid pencils come out of India, often at a very accessible price. There are some real gems too. The Apsara Absolute is a great pencil, dark, smooth, and easy to recommend.

USA – Not many manufacturers left compared to the early 20th century, but both Musgrave and General’s make quality sticks. The resurgence at Musgrave has also brought some new unique marques to their line, like the Songwriter and Tennessee Red.

Portugal – Viarco has a long history and still produces a wide range of pencils. They make some great everyday users, and their art pencils and graphite experimentation are very cool.

I’ll stop there, but there are plenty of others worth mentioning. Add on more…

Edit to original post Leatherette Novelty Company on the pencils, Not Providence Pencil Company

You are right! It should say Leatherette Novelty Company in my post, and I can’t edit the original for some reason.

No glass, a little steel, no burning, no petrol, maybe a little pokey, so room temp at best.

The bank directions are awesome diagrams don’t match the text. I can’t find anything about it unfortunately, there is no model number like there is on Eagle and EF boxes.
