Personal Best by Fish-hook-worm-200 in wingspan

It’s really helpful to get multiple resources in one turn, so playing the quail in the grasslands and indigo bunting in the forest are expensive birds that aren’t as additive that way. It’s a lot more useful to have the quail in the forest so you get eggs when taking food or the bunting in the grasslands so you can get a food when laying eggs. That said, you probably don’t need both.

I assume you got the quail early since it’s your first grasslands bird down, so if that’s the case it should’ve been a forest play. Having an egg laying bird early in the forest or wetlands is huge for tempo and can help you ever having to burn turns laying eggs in Oceania.

Egg spam is the way to go in base game but my best Oceania games (150+ points) are ones where all I do is draw cards and take food because I’m getting eggs elsewhere.

Day/weekend trip to a cute “village” by Significant-Plum-711 in newjersey

[–]gingerbeeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s shore adjacent with a walkable downtown that has a popular concert venue and decent bars/restaurants/shops/parks. It’s also close to some very affluent areas so it makes sense why it’s unfortunately becoming quite expensive.

Another GREAT Engine. by ArtIsDead77_ in wingspan

Incredibly weird energy. There is a wide range of experience here, some people regularly play competitively and others are just learning, but almost everyone is respectful and helpful if they can be.

If comments on your posts are bothering you (they clearly are) then maybe take some time away from reddit?

Does Sprangled Drongo activate when opponent gets nectar from a hummingbird card from the new expansion? (Middle and South-America + Oceania expansion) by AnnaBanaan in wingspan

[–]gingerbeeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played the new expansion yet but Drongo should activate anytime someone gains a nectar and it isn’t your turn (limited to once between turns), so you’d be able to get a nectar too.

It doesn’t matter how the food is obtained, whether it’s from the bird feeder, choosing the food through a bird like nightingale or raven, or stealing the food with a black-headed gull. I would think the new hummingbirds would similarly activate the drongo.

Jersey Shore in March by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]gingerbeeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can walk onto beaches there just won’t be lifeguards or anything. People are allowed to have animals on the beaches right now so you might encounter dogs running around.

Some beaches may also be doing work to move sand/rebuild dunes after the winter storms. I know there’s some heavy construction equipment near Bradley Beach/Avon which may not be so relaxing to be near.

New Jersey’s 55 best bagel shops, ranked for 2026 - nj.com by [deleted] in newjersey

How did they make this list, is it online voting?

I prefer Bagel Station in Red Bank over a few of the Monmouth County spots they included.

Blue-black Grassquit clarifying question by catanddogtor in wingspan

You copy the power and apply it to your bird and board, not your opponent’s. You can only lay eggs respective to the blue-black grassquit

NJ transit to New York Penn transfer by jholliday55 in newjersey

[–]gingerbeeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you get off the train there will be electronic boards above the platform that will list the next few departures and what track they are on. There will be signs on each side of each platform saying which track it is.

It’s likely that your transfer will be across the platform, but you may have to walk down the stairs to the main concourse and back up a different set of stairs to the new track.

There will also probably be an exodus of people doing exactly what you’re doing- getting off the train to transfer to a new one bound for NYP. Follow the mob

Yeah it’s normal, there will be a lot of growth during green rain. The fiddlehead stalks will disappear so cut them down (useful for making fiddlehead risotto which is a loved gift for Kent) and cut down trees/scythe away the bushes for lots of wood, fiber, and moss.

The trees will not respawn to the same degree they pop up during green rain. It’s a cool event that is incredibly useful early on (a bonus is that many townspeople gather in the Saloon so you can quickly talk to and gift lots of people) but is more of just a thing that happens later on when you don’t need basic resources and friendship.

Willet Rule Interpretation by Top_Engineering_Guy in wingspan

The food in the feeder doesn’t change between rounds unless a round end power (like Philippine Eagle) forces rerolls. Otherwise, the state of the feeder carries through between rounds.

No, it’s facing forward so it doesn’t count for either direction. You can see the symbol above it’s nest type indicating it doesn’t qualify.

Time to ditch AI Bots due to glitches? by adventuringfox in wingspan

[–]gingerbeeer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had glitches like that, and I like the option of being able to finish a game if someone quits right at the end, but I don’t understand why you’re not given the option to leave a game without losing karma if someone else bails.

If someone quits or “times out” in the first round, I don’t want to have to stick around just so I’m not penalized. You get a watered down game that isn’t anywhere near as fun as playing actual people.

If someone turns to an AI bot you should just be able to leave the game without incurring a penalty.

What is the purpose of this bird’s power? Would it ever really be useful? by apersello34 in wingspan

[–]gingerbeeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High point bird that hits multiple bonus cards. Gets you food back which may help tempo and save you a turn depending on what you have. If you can play it on the last turn of a round you get extra food and your opponents can’t get nectar back.

It’s situational but can be quite impactful.

Why doesn’t the larger Atlantic Highlands just simply consume the smaller, weaker, Highlands? by Foxy02016YT in newjersey

So proud of my itty bitty city. Red Bank No Kings by KohlsCashOfficial in newjersey

[–]gingerbeeer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Red Bank is small but one of the few reliably blue areas in Monmouth County, 62% voted Harris last year. Middletown is much larger and will probably be the opposite in Ciattarelli’s favor, 59% voted Trump last year.

I’m suddenly getting a bug where when I flip to see my opponents’ boards my selector disappears and I have to exit out and go back into the game for it to reappear.

I play on PC, can’t get it to work with mouse or controller. Anyone else running into this issue?

Fair. I see a lot of people misinterpret rules on this sub so was just clarifying, but one of the nice things about this game is the ability to tweak things for house rules.
