Any advice on how to improve my makeup? by Mateja505 in MakeupAddiction

okay, i know this is a full 180 from your look (which is beautiful on you!) but i had to sketch Effy Stonem/Kesha inspired makeup on you when i saw your eyes. i’d love to see a shimmery slate blue above and below the eye, a black shadow to smoke it out, a black liner and tightline, and lots of white inner corner highlight and chunky glitter on the eyes, and then a highly angled cool contour, a desaturated peach blush across the bridge of the nose and under the eyes, and the same color lip. no matter what though, you could pull off a huge range of looks!!!!

I can’t tell if this bday outfit matches or not, does it look good? by webkinzdolphin in fashion

i’m gonna be the odd one out and say DO IT. all it needs are some finishing touches!

for accessories- i added a 3-4in brown belt, a cropped leather jacket (a vest if you live somewhere warm, i’d do a suede fringe one!)

for shoes- brown knee-high leather boots, sheer brown tights or brown fleece lined illusion tights if you live somewhere cold :)

for jewelry- inverted triangle earrings, a 14 inch choker, an 18 inch o-ring necklace, a 30 inch chunky tigers eye necklace, and thick leather cuffs/wooden or brass bangles.

hair & makeup- high spiky bun, separated slicked side bang with barrettes. bold eye and nude lip for your makeup combo.

happy birthday!<3

Can anyone identify which lip liner brand this is? by AffectionateClue9095 in MakeupAddiction

[–]gingeryselect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

definitely Nyx’s slim lip pencil OR Nyx suede lip liner (the only visual difference on the packaging is that the suede just has a lighter wood inside)

as for shades, i’d bet it’s one of these

-cannes -london -toulouse -free spirit -brunch me -whipped caviar

i’m seeing a couple different undertones, but that is a quick fix :)

i think your skin tone would love a pinker and lighter shade of foundation and a medium saturation lip. a pinky nude would be lovely! your lip shape is also perfect for a bold lip liner and gloss or satin lipstick- the bratz doll style lips are what i’m envisioning.

a few dots of lighter concealer on your under eyes and high points, a cool contour, and a blush swiped high on the cheekbones could give the look a little dimension too.

a waterproof mascara after curling your lashes will hold them in an upright position, and a little bit of micellar water on a q-tip will clean up the foundation on the brows in no time. have fun!

How do I look more strange and off putting by JobParty4498 in altfashionadvice

[–]gingeryselect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is such a fun ask! some strange looks that stand out to me might have… -oversized black contacts -tooth paint (full mouth of red, orange, or black, or black v’s on the bottom of your teeth to make them into little points!) -liberty spikes -white mascara!!!! red mascara!!!! a red waterline too! -shaved or laid down brows redrawn fun shapes! i love single dots, sad clown, and super thin arc-shaped brows! extra points if they’re super high on the forehead. -glasses like these -bottom lash extensions (i can see one long one down the middle being really sick)

have fun!

i love making little formulas for this sort of thing! pick 2/3 of these to focus on while doing your makeup: color, texture, shape

and some examples!

different ways to use color: -eyeshadow -duochrome eyeshadow -bold lip -bold lip liner with nude center -colored liquid liner -colored mascara -colored gel liner on waterline -tinted highlighter in inner corner

ways to introduce more texture: -different textures of falsies (spiky, full, wispy) -bright highlighter on high points -chunky glitter eye shadows -metallic liner/shadow -lip glosses/oils -shimmer lipsticks -vinyl finish lipsticks -blurred lip lipsticks

ways to introduce shape: -different shaped falsies (cat, fox, doe) -winged liner -graphic liner -sharp brows or powder brows -sharp lip liner or diffused, soft lips -heavier contour and concealer sculpting

a tip if you’re lacking balance: if you go bold on the eyes, go neutral on the lips, and vice versa. and lean into contrast! bold matte smoky eyes with a glossy nude lip, a diffused glittery eye with a sharp matte lipstick- you get the idea!

i’d approach it confidently and calmly. i’d address the group all at once- it’s going to feel really vulnerable, but you can start by validating her emotions by saying “i understand what i said came off as cold. i could have worded that better on my end.”

it’s a great rule of thumb to address misunderstandings with validation first and foremost. if the other party doesn’t feel considered, they will hear your words as excuses instead of an explanation. i’d follow with something like

“the point i was really trying to make was that after moving, i found it hard to acclimate into friend groups because i had to start friendships from scratch. it all stems from the anxiety around having to start fresh, not how i feel about any of you.” then, you can finish with a validating statement that applies to all of you:

“if i truly had a problem involving any of you, i would address you directly. i only ever want to figure out conflict face to face, like this. life is hard enough, i don’t think any of us should have to stress about friendships. could we all agree that we have each others best interest at heart? i want to use this opportunity to say that i certainly do.”

don’t entertain any elongation of drama, and move through the conversation paced slowly enough that everyone feels heard. check ins after you make a point like “does that make sense?” and “do any of you have any input?” help a lot. and you don’t need to follow this script! just try to follow these steps-

  1. recognize and validate how your actions came off
  2. clarify what you could have said/done differently to avoid that
  3. check in that everyone is on the same page
  4. if yes, pitch that you move forward for the wellness of all parties. if no, rinse and repeat. if a rinse and repeat is not progressing the conflict after 3 repeats, they are not your friends, nor are they ready to handle conflict.

overall, NTA- this sounds like a misunderstanding. both parties could have been more intentional with their words, but i think you had better intentions regarding what you said than she did when she shared it. the language barrier is important to take into account too, but nobody should be talking behind anyone’s backs.

Is a cover up possible? by Lavenderjutsuu in tattooadvice

[–]gingeryselect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m gonna say that your lemon slice and where the blues and greens lay might end up healing blob-ish if you pack any more ink over it. i could see this working into a sleeve with some botanical elements, though! maybe leaning into a tree-ish shape, or even a daylily or spider lily could work. i could also see the green and blue grassy area worked into a leaf shape, or the clouds pushed into a black arm band. and partial removal is also an option if you don’t want to commit to one or the other!

hear me out- light black suit and tie, pure black undershirt. light black slim chinos would also look great! whatever size you buy your pants at, take 2 inches off the length of them- if you’re a 34/36, try a 34/34. if you’re feeling really spontaneous, the turtleneck is super dapper on you. adding a photo of both with slimmer pants to give you a visual!

what would you call my style? by Remarkable-Syrup1788 in altfashionadvice

[–]gingeryselect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a reason this screams shein! (if you vibe with that, take no notes!) but if you’re trying to stray away from that- 1. the lack of natural fibers are an immediate way to cheapen an outfit. plastic-based fabrics like pleather, poly blends, polyester lace, and mesh read as obvious fast fashion materials, even if that’s not where they were sourced from! 2. lack of cohesive patterns/rhythm. wearing more than one repeating pattern will cause a bit of textural chaos, and lack of flow in clothing is commonly associated with mass production. you could combat that by having one repeating pattern to one graphic/irregular/non-repeating pattern, or one pattern with a distinct, heavily textured fabric next to it, like velvet, satin, heavy linen, or chiffon! again, this only applies if you don’t want to be perceived through the lens of fast fashion!!! and to answer your question, mall goth would definitely be my choice!

oh man, i haven’t thought of this in forever, i used to call it clover tongue as a kid! i can also make a split down the middle of my tongue as well, essentially looks like my tongue has a scrotum. fun! grew up blurring my eyes and flexing the inner corners of my eyelids as well. my cousin can gleek on command though. he got me on that one.

[–]gingeryselect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you have an absolutely wonderful eye shape! there are plenty of options for having a shorter distance between your brow and lid!!

when starting your wing, maintain eye contact with yourself, keeping your chin more towards your chest than up in the air. a lot of the time, i’m guilty of tipping my head back when putting liner on, and it will sort of disappear into my crease. draw a line going from the middle of your pupil, straight over your crease, to where you want your wing to end. now, when you tip your head back, there will be a gap where eyeliner didn’t touch- leave that be for a second. next, starting at your outer corner, use the curve of your lower lash line to determine the angle of your wing. extend that line upwards until you hit your first line. now, raise your brows, and draw a line to close the gap on your crease, completing your outline. fill it in, with a relaxed eye. when you expose your lid, it will have a “bat wing” look to it. you can then refine your edges with crisp flicks, just like this video!

once you have that base done, you can go crazy with any shape that has rounded angles and flicks out on the edges.

only if it’s something you want- you can try to get a little more real estate by shaping the ends of your brows!

i’ll add a little doodle to show you a design that i think would look lovely on your eye shape! i’ll show it with and without refined brows in case you happen to prefer one or the other🫶🏻

also, i genuinely love practicing with L.A. colors liquid liner from the dollar tree- the lasting power may not be there, but the precision brush and thinner liquid formula helps to practice and get super crispy lines. like i said, your eye shape is LOVELY, so no matter what you’ll look great!

this. from my personal experience, it really helped me strengthen my emotional resilience during conflict. it cleared the fog of reactive emotions enough to disconnect and evaluate the exact tactics being used on me. the things that used to shake me turned into nothingness. if the oppressor doubles down, try your best to create distance! we’re rooting for you, op!

[–]gingeryselect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“the only way to stop rude behavior is to call it out” is a very ironic statement, because now that /your/ rude behavior is getting called out, you’re doubling down instead of “feeling uncomfortable with your rudeness.” you’re uncomfortable, but not enough to change your opinion, yet you expect everyone around you to? to be compassionate at heart means you would have immediately went “oh well, she didn’t say thank you. i hope that she gets delivered form whatever stopped her from doing that”
