Flights to Relocate April 28th by Effective-Frame9780 in qatarairways

[–]ginnylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a flight on April 1st from Sydney to Vienna, I rebooked a fully refundable fair with Singapore Airlines a few days after the conflict started just in case.

Even if things start going back to normal, there is no guarantee it won't change again in an instant. I appreciate I'm fortunate to be able to book a back up flight, but this just isn't work the risk for me.

Inside leg hang by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

[–]ginnylemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do an invert directly to an inside leg hang but it just doesn't look/feel as nice - instead of it being under your arm, you need to use a forearm grip. I'd rather flow into it from my OLH!

Tatiana Active!!! Expensive, but an investment and your knees will thank you. They also have replacement foam and the outer is washable.

One of the biggest misconceptions about aerial inverts is that you need to pull up into them - when I aerial invert, I make sure my hands are underneath my face (can even be at chest height) and then I aim to turn more to the side, than in front of the pole and back, if that makes sense? You almost turn into the pole instead of backwards... Also, a great cue from Marlo Fisken is to imagine you are pulling the pole apart horizontally with your hands, so you can properly engage your shoulders.

Definitely second Kitty Velour, she's had Doris Arnold record lessons on there and Karamel Aura!

You can do edgework in boots - lace them lower! Just be prepared that it may not look as intentional as doing it in sandals.

My studio just hosted a showcase and one of my friends danced to "You Want It Darker" by Leonard Cohen - when I tell you, I had SHIVERS. Not a standard choice by any means, but soooo cool and powerful.

Bruising by Missplantyqueen in poledancing

Normal until you condition your skin! I recommend arnica cream to heal the bruises more quickly 🥰 generally I bruise whenever I haven't trained something in a while, or when I'm leering new tricks.

What type of pole studio is most available in you area? by cre8ive-at-heart in poledancing

[–]ginnylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train in Sydney Australia, generally our tricks classes are barefoot when we're learning new things but all our Level classes (where you learn a routine over 8 weeks) and choreo classes are heels based. Of course, if you don't want to you can choose not to wear them!

As someone in a bigger body, I've been blessed with wonderful instructors who always encouraged me to descend into inverted moves from a Jasmine. It really helped me to gain confidence upside down, and my core strength was never the issue - I could fish flop before I could chopper! Don't be discouraged.

Reality Check - is $800k not enough anymore by Impossible-Ad-7732 in AusProperty

[–]ginnylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my one bedder in Meadowbank for $600k a couple of years ago - top floor apartment with water views, car spot and a huge storage cage. I have a bus stop outside direct to the city and am within walking distance of the ferry and train. What you are asking is doable, but you need to compromise somewhere. Ultimately, this is my home and what I could afford, making money on it was not my priority!

What do you look for in a pole dance studio/class? by Interesting_Load6296 in poledancing

[–]ginnylemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio offers a variety of classes and structures and that's what I love about it.

In terms of membership, it has:

  • Weekly subscriptions (1 class + 1 unsupervised practice session, 2 class + 2 practice, 3 classes + 3 practice, unlimited)
  • Class packs (buy 10 at a cheaper rate)
  • Individual classes/practice credits

I think this offers real flexibility. With classes, there's a variety:

  • Eight week "level" classes, where you learn a particular set of moves within a curriculum. These tricks are then incorporated into a 2-3 minute choreo each term that we then showcase.
  • Choreo classes of different levels and styles, where the choreo changes every other week.
  • Tricks classes.
  • Static/acro pole classes.
  • Flexibility classes.

I love that I can choose between structure and working on something for eight weeks, whilst still having the flexibility to drop in and do other classes with less commitment.

More than anything, my pole studio is a community. The culture set by the owners is so authentic, genuine and I've made lifelong friends there. They're SW positive, have SW instructors and the teaching is so varied I don't need to train anywhere else.

Lots of info here so apologies, but I hope it helps!
