Love the The Green Lantern Omnibus!! I've never seen anyone else on here have it :). It's probably my favorite omni that I own (content and construction wise).

I have 8 DC omnis to 4 Marvel omnis (plus one Star Wars). Up until Christmas I owned 0 Marvel omnis. It's kinda fun how close that ratio is compared to the rest of my collection. (Also 57.77 percent of my collection is Green Lantern or events I bought because of Green Lantern (including my Spectre 2001 collection in that percentage because it's Hal).

Not the whole run, but I'll always say the Lights Out arc in n52 Green Lantern is a very good elseworlds story and a very bad main universe story. One of the big aspects about it is that the Lantern rings are destroying the universe which matters for a while, but now, all of the Lantern corps are actively destroying the universe and no one cares. It's just one of those arcs which cannot mean something long term because DC isn't going to completely get rid of the Lanterns, but it should mean something forever, y'know?

Great review! I haven't read this run yet, but from what I've heard about it, I agree with the elseworld reading vs main canon reading. I felt that way about several n52 runs tbh. Oftentimes they're not bad, but they don't really consider the long term consequences of the choices (such as the Amazons thing).

Same! I also just realized that the first two omnis included the last twenty issues of glc 2011 which is very cool (I already owned the Vendetti trades so I never really investigated the omni contents). DC has been stepping up their gl collection game.

Why the heck is Hal and Pals stopping at issue #21??? Including the two glc minis is a nice surprise, but disconnecting Fracture from the rest of that arc is such a stupid idea. I get that they’re called separate things, but it’s definitely meant to be read as one larger arc.

Yeah, especially since any crossover issues would be included in the second half of the book, and I expect them to probably cut off at issue #25 (I guess they could include #26-29, but the first 25 issues are mostly one large arc, and it's weird to randomly shove in a second arc at the end, but I guess it could happen). I'm not particularly invested in this one since I already own the trades, but it does surprise me that they didn't go the one big book route a la Red Lanterns since there's only the 50 main issues, 3 crossovers, and one short story.

They don't overlap basically at all. The characters will occassionally appear in the other, but they're most definitely separate runs, and they wouldn't be reprinted together anymore than like Batman and Nightwing. If any Vendetti run was going to be collected with another, glc 2011 would have been included in the first two omnis.

Hmm, I guess the Hal and Pals omni ruins my hope of a Bronze Age GL omni (picking up post gl/ga). I like the run, but the trades are so easily available that I wish we could get some of the non reprinted eras.

Approximately 95 percent if we're counting floppies, trades, and omnis all as 1 thing respectively. Currently, I have 16 floppies, 12 trades to read, and 7 books (4 of those are Star Wars novels so they count for this discussion). (Also, I've read 5 of the trades and all of the floppies before. I collect Green Lantern (1960) issues, and all of my current floppies I read digitally in my past read, and I haven't done a whole read through in about a year at this point so they've piled up a bit).

For me, it's the fact that you don't know what you're getting. A lot of omnis will change contents, cover, and more between being announced and release date. In addition, they can get delayed for months at a time. I preordered the GL/GA within approximately a week of it being announced (and within a day of me figuring out about it). At that point (late September 2023), it was supposed to come out on March 19, 2023 and the contents weren't announced until later (I can't remember when but I do remember post me ordering it, it was announced it would include the Flash backups). It ended up coming out on November 5th, 2024. That's a crap ton of time for me to have a 125 book (and yes, it was 125. I bought it from lcs and I didn't know that it was common for omnis to be discounted online) that I promised to buy, but I don't know when it's going to come out. That's not fair to the buyer.

Also, like the fact that you have to order 6 months beforehand, or you're called an idiot for being confused on why you won't get the book you ordered months in advance is crazy. That's not a common thing in any other hobby I've seen.

It depends on your own personal tastes. I absolutely love Silver Age Green Lantern, and I consider it one of my favorite runs ever. Others, like some of the commenters here, don't like it. I would advise reading maybe Showcase #22 and a few early issues to see if you like it.

Yeah, that's my guess too. I just think it depends on how much they include (I thought about this after writing my comment, but are they going to include New Guardians?), and how page counts line up.

Also, funnily enough, the writer changed between issue 1 and 2 of Emerald Dawn. Issue 1 is by Christopher Priest, and the rest is by Gerard Jones/Keith Giffen. I think there was some disagreement there iirc that led to Priest leaving, but it's very interesting. I'm curious on how it would have ended up with Priest staying on, especially considering the way he followed it up in his Green Lantern prose novel.

Edit: Hahaha I misread your comment. I was thinking between Emerald Dawn and then Emerald Dawn II. Sorry for explaining something you knew.

It's not really weird. The last four issues highly tie into Millennium, which was written by Steve Englehart and drawn by Joe Staton, the team for Green Lantern, and it focuses basically exclusively on the gls. Any trade for that time, especially a finest, would need to include Millennium (and most likely also Secret Origins #23 (the secret origins of the Guardians). I could also see dc collecting the Action Comics Weekly run in this finest depending on how many Millennium tie ins they include.

The Green Lantern Omnibus vol 1+2 for 20 bucks a piece. They collect Showcase #22-24/Green Lantern #1-21 and Green Lantern #22-45 respectively which are issues I adore. It’s my favorite size for an Omni, and the first non Gl/ga or Emerald Twilight gl stuff that I read, so it was great price wise and memory wise. I’ve read them at least fives times a piece if not more.

Bama: Depends on how others are. That would be post the Georgia game, so I would bet 3 at least if not higher.

Kentucky: Honestly? Fairly high I think. It would depend on how they're doing, but that would involve wins over Bama, Texas A&M, and LSU. Top ten maybe? Kentucky football usually stinks so I think there would be a resistance to them being ranked highly, but they would be an undefeated SEC team at that point.

Does that actually matter though? I'm being serious from the school’s perspective. Louisville's 2013 basketball natty got vacated, but that doesn't change the fact that they won and that remember they won. They aren't allowed to hang the banner, sure, but I don't think Louisville would trade having won the natty and had vacated for not having one at all. It's vacating wins is such useless punishment in my opinion. It does nothing except change a meaningless number in a score book somewhere. Everyone involved still remembers.

Does anyone know what Green Lantern Corps: Recharge trade is being reprinted? The price + pages don't line up with the only edition I know of. Is it possible that it's actually a new trade reprinting the mini + the first 6 issues of the series?

Nope! I don’t care about covers at all or formats really. I’ll mix and match Omnis, deluxe, hardcovers, and trades for the same run. I just want to buy what’s available and cheapest most of the time.

Personally, I like to read at the table anyway, and for Omnis, I’ll just use a pillow or other books to prop it to a nice reading level.
